I used to be a huge anime/manga fan when I was younger, but I lost interest in all the new shows a couple of years ago. I think the last anime that I watched was Eureka 7 about four years ago. Since then, nothing has really kept my interest and all the shows seem to be remakes or completely uninspired, generic shows.
Can anyone make some anime/manga recommendations for me so I can get back into these things?
I know I'll check out some of the new stuff by Studio BONES because that was all I watched for a couple of years before I quit anime. Is there anything out that that you'd recommend to someone older? I definitely don't want to watch some harem/school girl/lolita show and I don't know if I want to watch a mecha/sci-fi series either (although I'm open to the good ones). My interests are all over the place, but I think what I'm looking for is something with a little more... substance than what seems to have become the regular/typical anime series.
For reference, here are some of my favorite anime series:
Fantastic Children
Rose of Versailles
Fullmetal Alchemist
Cardcaptor Sakura
Eureka 7
Black Jack
Azumanga Daioh
Scrapped Princess
And here's another list with some of my favorite manga series:
20th Century Boys
Hana Yori Dango
Angelic Layer
Chobits
Ranma 1/2
Thanks in advance for the help!

Thank you, Miss Eevee.
I'm definitely going to check out Witchblade. I watched Chrono Crusade when it came out as an anime and I enjoyed it, so I'll also check out the manga version. I also think I'll try reading XXXholic and Tsubasa Chronicles (even though you recommended the anime), just because I prefer to read things.
But you're awesome for posting this list. x)

Anime:
-Ergo Proxy ( interesting plot, but a bit dry at first though. )
~-Mononoke ( Beautiful animation, Interesting plot just overall a VERY well made anime, I highly recomend this one )~
-Axis powers Hetalia ( Very funny, and the episodes are short too. :) )
-Casshern Sins ( good but can be dry at parts )
-SGT. Frog ( Very funny but no real plot )
-Kuroshitsuji ( though I personally really never got into it lots of my friends enjoy it. )
-Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei ( random but funny )
Manga:
-Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro ( The long name is intimidating but its acually very good a bit gory though but a very good manga! Most likely my favorite. )
-Gintama ( pretty good manga. )
-Beast Master ( Cute but short and its more school romance-y )
-He's addicted to roses ( Another romance, still kinda entertaining though. )
-Cat Street ( A bit depressing but pretty good. )
-Satan 666 ( Don't let the name intimidate you its not some really evil manga its actually done by the brother of the guy who did Naruto. )
-Rurouni Kenshin ( Really good. :) )
Sorry I couldn't recommend much manga, I've read alot but I can't think of alot of them off the top of my head. :/

Omg, I love Cat Street! That was the last manga that I read! :)
And thanks for even more recommendations. A couple of years ago, I read a few chapters of Satan 666 and I was happy with the artwork, characters and plot. I'll definitely try this one out again. (And of course, all of your other recommendations).

If you love Fullmetal Alchemist I think it's safe to say that you'd also like Darker Than Black. It is very well done in my opinion. One of my favorites.
I also highly recommend Eden of the East. It is very unique and I was sucked right into it.
And these are both anime that I would only recommend to an older audience. They have quite a bit of substance.

I've got a couple, not sure if you'll like them but no harm in a recomendation and if you never try then you'll never know right?
Code Geass - Anime/Manga - although the anime is better in my opinion. This covers a wide range of subjects and the plot is great with a lot of twists and turns but it also goes a lot into character development, especially with the central charactesr, Lelouch, C.C., Suzaku and Kallen. There is a bit of mecha since it's in a futuristic world but the main focus is on Lelouch and the supernatural element, the power known as Geass.
Death Note - Anime/Manga - This one veers more towards the supernatural, a lot more than Code Geass and it's really interesting since you start off with the main character, the protagonist but by the end he's more like the antagonist. It's really well thought out and good as an anime or a manga.
Saiyuki - anime/manga - I think this is an older series based on the style and I just recently got into it but I like the way it's done. I believe it's based on "Journey to the west".
Vampire Knight - Anime/Manga - The manga goes further than the anime and it's a bit better from what I've heard although I've only watched some of the anime and it isn't too bad. It's all a matter of what you're interested in I think.
Hope I've helped! You'll let us know which you've watched/read-have watched/read-are going to watch/read right? Please!!!!!

Anime:
Gankutsuou
Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)
Higashi no Eden (Eden of the East)
Spiral
Ayashi no Ceres
Kyo Kara Maoh
Ouran High School Host Club
Excel Saga
Manga
HunterXHunter
Fruits Basket
Shutterbox
Not going to give you a huge list, but here's a small one to start off with. Generally speaking, I tend to recommend novels rather than anime and manga, but I've seen/read my fair share and thought you might enjoy those listed above.
Also, if you're up for a few things that are a bit more old school or have that old school feel, the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Cosmo Warrior Zero are excellent.
