Yawning Halcyone reached out lazily to turn off her raging alarm clock. The first day of Autumn, just another month of trying to get people to return books to the library. It was only a temporary measure, thought the young woman. She wanted to see her art hanging in the Art Gallery, to be enjoyed and appreciated by many. Until that day she was stuck working part time at the library. Is wasn't that she didn't like it there, it was more the fact that she felt trapped.

Still yawning the red head pulled a white shirt out of her closet and turned to her antique dresser to grab a pair of black dress pants. Simple and casual, just the right look. Halcyone didn't want to attract any undue attention at the library. She'd been working there for three months, ever since she'd moved to Bayview. So far she hadn't made any friends, nor had the woman made any effort to do so. Looking the red numbers of her bed side clock she gasped. " If I don't hurry I'll be seriously late!"

Quickly she ran down the stairs and skirted into the kitchen. Halcyone paused to grab an apple, and take her velvety leather jacket from the back of a chair, before racing out the door of her beach front home. Mumbling silently under her breath about never getting the alarm time right she briskly made her way to the library, but not before stopping to stare admiringly at the beautiful sea.

Taking in great gulps of air she opened the closed doors of the building , and flipped the sign open. Surely there wouldn't be as many people coming in now that Summer was over. Maybe, mused Halcyone, she could actually do some reading of her own. Perhaps some of the interesting new people that had arrived would stop by. Their arrival had the whole town abuzz. Halcyone didn't leave the library much, nor did she visit the beach frequently since all she had to do was look out the window to find inspiration for her art. It was very unlikely that she had met any of them.

Kelly closed her book and sighed. She had finished it after within an hour. During that time no one had come into the store. Maybe I should hire someone. At least then I wouldn't be alone in here. She hadn't really expected to do great the first day but she had expected someone to come in. She jumped off the counter and went to the bookshelves. She grabbed a journal off the 'writing shelf' and walked back to the counter. She put her cash in the register to pay for it then climbed back up.

She sat writing for awhile. She had been thinking about writing a collection of fairytales and this seemed like the perfect time.

She looked up after awhile to find that her legs were going numb so she jumped off the counter again and walked around a bit. Her stomach growled and she placed her new journal in her purse. She thought about driving but decided to save the money so she walked outside after turning the open sign off. She locked the door then started her walk.

She spent a bit walking around then noticed the library. While she hadn't ate yet she was no longer worried about it. She decided to go inside. She was a bookstore owner afterall. She should have a good relationship with the library. She walked inside to find a young woman behind the desk. "Hello miss. I just moved to town. I opened the book store." She smiled unsure whatelse to say.

((I don't know why but I can't get any of the "hide" boxes to open for me. I was wondering if someone would mind pming me the characters info? I wanted to read over the characters again since it has been a bit.))

For the first hour or so Halcyone walked around the library making sure that everything was in place. Each item had a spot where it would fit in neatly. The exact opposite of the young woman's house. Finally, her grey eyes filled with boredom, Halcyone went to sit behind the desk to check who had books due. That was when a woman wearing glasses entered the library. A welcoming smile immediately placed itself on Halcyone's face.

After the woman's words Halcyone pushed away from the wooden desk and stood to greet her. " My name is Halcyone, it's a pleasure to meet you. I've looked at the displays in your shop from time to time, all of them hold very interesting books that I've been planning to read." Laughing a little she extended a still paint splattered hand to this fellow book lover. " Three months, that's how long I've lived here. How do you like it so far?" Halcyone hoped the other woman wouldn't notice the bright green paint under her fingernails, or the red on the tip of her right thumb.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Kelly. I'm glad you like my book selcetion. I try to keep an interesting variaty." She started to take the woman's hands and noticed the paint. She took it and gave a polite shake. "I've liked it so far. Though I got in late last night, slept on the floor and have only walked around the town for around 20 minutes. So I can't really say too well. How do you like it?"

Halcyone thought the woman brave for opening a shop in a new town. It was an adventure that the woman with paint splattered hands would have been hard pressed to embark on. "If you need any help with furniture I'd be glad to show you this little antique store with the best prices I've seen. It's tucked away in a place you can't find unless you walk everywhere."

Releasing Kelly's hand Halcyone thought of other things she could say to keep the conversation going. After a few moments she remembered the book order the head librarian had asked all the part timers to help out with. "Are there any books we don't have here in the library, that would be a good addition?" The young woman had been wracking her brain for days, but couldn't some up with anything she thought others would like.

"Thanks, I'll have to take you up on that. This is also my first time in my own house. I brought all my stuff from my apartment from college but I shared so I only have a few beanbag chairs, a loveseat, my bed, and bookcases." She sighed as she thought about her car. "I vistited this town with my grandpa when I was young and had forgotten how close together everything is. I can easily walk everywhere I need to go. My car is too small to really do me much good. I might try to sell it if I need the money."

Kelly looked around but couldn't see much of the books. "Well I don't know the collection here or the people very well. So I can't give you a really good list right now. I could look around or if you have a moment you could show me around. Maybe point out the books that get checked out the most or the places you think you might have problems and I can work from that. I'll have to come in and talk to the person in charge of buying books. I found out I can get a tax break for selling to libraries and schools. So I will give all those discounts to the schools and library. I figured out that then I could sell books for a little over half off."

"Wha?! Autumn! I'm always on my best of manners. You know I won't say or do anything unladylike... Unless someone else starts it of course." Spring's expression was shocked at her brother's small jest. She mumbled the last part under her breath with a hint of a sly smile playing upon her lips. She was a well mannered female, but that did not mean she had to clam up when someone provoked her. The trouble was that it seemed that her temper got the better of her at the worst of times usually.

Closing the door behind them, she made sure to lock it before running to catch up with her brother. "Can I have a piece?" She asked falling into step with her brother as her sharp eyes caught sight of the fresh orange. "Just one piece? Pleeeeease?" Smiling sweetly up at her brother as she begged for the tasty sun ripened fruit.

Dawn was sitting on the school ground, reading a book as usual. She was early, the bells hadn't even rung yet, and there was almost no one around. Sure, some students were beginning to show up, but still, there were very few. Heaving a sigh, she closed her book after replacing her bookmark and stood up, dusting dirt off of her skirt. She walked into the school building and headed to her locker. There wasn't much she could do with it at the moment, the school year had yet to begin, and there were no textbooks for her to get. Dawn opened her locker after inputting the lock numbers and put her own book away. She would need to concentrate when she was in class, after all.

Autumn rolled his eyes, his little sister could sure be a handful. "Spring, didn't you just eat cereal a few minutes ago?" He questioned, raising an eyebrow at her. She looked very pleading, and Autumn could never resist Spring's begging face. Autumn sighed for the, at least twentieth time, and it wasn't even lunch yet! After peeling his orange, he took 3 pieces and gave them to Spring. As he bit into his piece, he savored the sweet juice that splashed into his mouth. It was an indescribable taste that left you wanting even more. One of the only things Autumn actually liked about Earth, their fruit. Though he liked oranges, he took a liking in apples and pears as well. But, after he finished his second piece, he felt a bit happier for the day.

Regarding Kelly with a smile, Halcyone went to rummage for something in her desk. Returning, she axposed the map of the town she held in her hands. "It's very close to here actually, the store is tucked neatly between the library and that art gallery. No one notices it because it's so small. It's dwarfed by these two buildings! " While she had been speaking, Halcyone circled the spot with a red pen to make sure it was easily found on the map.

Looking up, Halcyone spoke thoughtfully as she skimmed the shelves with her eyes. "I'd be glad to show you around, and as soon as the head librarian comes in I'll tell her about your store. She'll be very excited to hear you can get us such good prices! The library isn't busy right now, so I might as well start the tour. " Putting her words into action she started walking towards the non-fiction section while explaining that it was less used then the fiction part. It was still a popular place for the students to search out information for the projects they had to complete. For that reason the History section was well used especially.

Kelly smiled at Halcyone. "Thank you for showing me where the store is. I might have to go by there after I leave here." She should be able to find the store now that she knew where to look. Maybe I'll find a cheap bookcase. I'm about out of room on number six.

Kelly followed behind her and looked at the shelves. "Thank you for the tour." She sighed, "Even with the discount I could use any business now." She leaned over and started looking through the shelves. "Does the library have a section for books by authors around this area? There have been some pretty good books written. Nothing famous though. There is one by a man, can't place his name right now, he wrote about his life. He talks about his parents, the depression, being a farmer. He wrote it when he was 80 but what makes it so interesting is that he never got past the third grade. It is rough but readable. People might enjoy reading about someone that lived here." She went and looked at the religous section. They had a wide variety but it was mismatched and uneven. She placed her finger on the one Wicca book. "I'm going to guess that this one was donated. From what I've read this book isn't a good representation on Wicca. You might see about having it switched out. And while there seems to be a book for the major religions you might sugest a book on World Religions."

Listening to every word and suggestion Halcyone made a mental list of the things they needed to improve. As they walked around the library she tried to think of anything they had missed. Finally when the two women reached the desk Halcyone couldn't think of anything else. "Thank you for all the help. I was wondering, do you know of any events going on that I could go to in order to meet people? Three months spent in the library or alone in my home aren't very conducive to getting integrated into a new town." The young woman smiled at Kelly, still nervously hiding her paint splattered hands from sight.

Kelly shrugged. "Sorry I don't know of anything. I've just been in my shop and then walked around till I got here. And I didn't really see anything on my walk. I wouldn't mind going to something too. I know I'll be in the same boat as you. Bookstore and home." She looked down at her watch and saw she had been gone for a while. "Sorry I hate to run but I really should get back to my store."

Halcyone laughed with an understanding tone. "That's fine, I know what you mean. If you do hear of anything give me a call?" She proceeded to give Kelly her home phone number. She wrote it down on an old crumpled piece of paper that she tugged out of her pocket. At one point it had been Halcyone's grocery list. On the back you could read that she'd needed milk, and various fruits, plus cake mix.

Kelly nodded and took the number. "I'll be sure to do that. I don't have a home phone yet but here is my cell and my work line." She quickly reached into her bag and pulled a random paper out of her purse, which happened to be a fast food reciet, and wrote the numbers down. She handed it to Halcyone then turned waving and walked out.

She jogged back to her store and quickly slipped inside and turned back on the open sign. She went around her store and looked at the books thinking of her trip around the library. She wrote down the books she had suggested and figured up how much they would cost.

When she was done she put the list to the side and climbed back up on the counter to wait.

Aiko sighed. "Yeah. But we had to leave about thirty minutes after we'd arrived because Iku didn't want to be 'rude,'" she said in a tone that made Iku red. "I didn't want to startle them or anything," Iku muttered, beginning to walk more quickly than the rest of them. Aiko sighed as she watched her twin go, then turned back to Lucia. "I'm extremely tired today. I don't want to go through the whole process of dealing with snobby teachers, if you know what I mean," she said, kicking a rock. "But how have you been doing?"

Summer waited until he heard the door close before going downstairs, grabbing himself a bowl and the nearest box of cereal. Once his bowl was filled, he got himself a glass of orange juice and began eating, thinking of the day ahead. Later, he would begin working - work, a word which he loathed - at the shack at the beach. He wondered if anyone would come to visit him. Why would they visit me? I guess they should be visiting Autumn, since it is his birthday... Sighing, he began playing with his cereal, splashing a bit of orange juice into the milk and twirling it around mindlessly.
