Do I need to explain the title of this post?

Going through my collection of music and movies, it occurs to me-- there's a whole bevy of media that I used to partake of primarily with my ex. Our "couple" activities included: listening to music, going to the movies, and watching everything Joss Whedon ever directed, including but not limited to:
Dollhouse
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Firefely

in fact, of Joss Whedon, pretty much only Dr. Horrible's Sing A Long Blog made it out unscathed. All of the media is bad now.

Movies are even worse. Together, we viewed pretty much every gay-girl movie one could watch. Imagine Me And You, Saving Face, Fingersmith... the list goes on. We also watched anything with Angelina Jolie we could get our hands on-- but can you really blame us?

My current "it's complicated" relationship person has an obsession with Wes Anderson movies, so every time I see any reference to Margot Tennenbaum I spaz a little.

What about you guys?
Does anyone else have an extensive, "Damn, there goes that film," collection?

I suppose that when I was in a relationship, I did tend to go see movies more often.
No "there goes that film" collection though.
Also, Doctor Horrible's Sing a Long Blog is fantastic.

Isn't it lovely? I have a braincrush on Neil Patrick Harris.

And the first time I saw Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog I was crammed into a tiny dorm with about 12 other people who were singing along. It was miraculous.

Have you watched the "commentary"? It's also musical.

I've lost strange things like Garth Marenghi's Dark Place and Rocky Horror's Picture Show from one ex. But sadly it's been music that I've lost. A handful of Bowie songs are unlistenable because he had learned them on piano for me. As for the other ex I lost some good REM songs. Blades of Glory is something I saw with all three (2ex's and current) but it's still strange to watch.

Wow, that's emphatic! What grated on you so much? And do you usually like musicals? If the answer is 'no,' then I can see how it might get to you...

I enjoyed it immensely. The whole thing was written as a fun side-project during the infamous writer's strike.

@LOOOOOOONGCAT:
Ooof! Your ex played the piano-- that could definitely cut a large hole through a music collection. I'm sorry. Know how that goes.

Thought about it. I also lost Matt Nathanson's "Come on Get Higher" and Train's "Hey Soul Sister." Rome's "Lay Me Down." Dave Matthews' "Crash," "Seven," and "You and Me..."

I've never let my past or present relationships dictate what I like to watch, or listen too. I also have never been like "oh my new guy really likes this band so I'm going to start listening to them too so I look cool to him". For example I've been asked to Sport games a lot...I hate sports, so I don't go. Even if it's cuz they're asking my out on a date. I told one guy, that's not because I don't like you I just don't like sports.

I have my own tastes and I can separate them from "oh we used to listen to this" For all of the shows I watch I watched them before I knew him and will continue even after.

@Nephila: That's a smart way to look at the world. And for much of what you see in life, I think that's true. You can't give away the rights to things that you love.
Certain things stick, though.
The song that was on, the very first time? How could you help but remember that?
I don't know. Some things stay. And I think that's pretty normal.

Often, I see little reminders. It fades with time-- but right after a breakup, they trigger strong feelings.
