Yaoi: Love/Hate, Why?

love it! Not because its the typical "female" thing but because it shows "gay pride" if you must?

Love isnt just between a male and a female. thats why I like Yuri too

I'm not really a huge fan of the term 'yaoi' because of what it seems to mean these days. I prefer saying M/M.

I like yaoi but that's just because I'm a pansexual boy. haha

I hate it mainly because I don't care to see 2 male anime characters get it on im all for people doing what they want but I don't want to hear crappy stories of 2 of my fav male anime characters being gay when its clear they are not. if its like original yaoi I could care less but start messing with existing characters I know and love and it pisses me off.

I thought Yaoi was a slang word for a type of drug or something. Reading these comments lets me believe I was wrong. :O

Obviously, if it pisses you off, then don't read it dude. :P Simple as that. If I don't like a pairing, I just don't read it. I don't hate on it. Oh well, Haters Gonna Hate.

I actually always used to find it a bit strange how people would leave such horrible comments on a story or picture just because they didn't like the pairing. I mean, the writer or artist isn't hurting anyone so what's the point?

Exactly. Why hate on it? I'm not fond of Katy Perry or her music. I don't say how much I hate her, I just say "I don't listen to that". *shrug* I don't get haters yo.

I'm not a huge fan of hers either because I find her 'I kissed a girl' song somewhat offensive to homosexual and bisexual woman but nobody knows that because I never mention it. That's mostly because I'm worried I'll upset a fan of hers. I don't like upsetting or offending people so I usually watch what I say :sweat:

Same here. I really hated that stupid song and I know that some of my lesbian/bisexual friends found it offensive but if there are people who like her I'm not gonna be like "omg she sucks and makes me burn with rage rawr!". I'm just gonna be like "I don't really like it *shrug*". They usually respect it.

That Katy Perry song also bothers me. I'm wondering how she even got away with that, and to those who aren't actually lesbian/bi, it's just a no-big-deal subject to laugh off. I've just chosen to ignore it- I don't like her music to begin with.

But back to the subject of yaoi. I used to be really into it, but I don't go out of my way to watch it anymore. I love the romantic relationships in both yaoi and yuri, even more than heterosexual pairings. But as for purely sexual themed anime (in general), it doesn't really bother me, it's just not my cup of tea.

I am not a fan of Anime period, nor am I a fan of gayness(although I respect it). I have a friend who is real into it though.

Hentai isn't much for me... I tend to scoop up Yuri and Yaoi into that category. I enjoy romance between same sex a bit more than I do for straight people when it comes to comics... even though I'm a guy. If it's in a book, it's a toss up for me. It depends on the characters and the interactions.

Now, not to be mean to you Bella but how can you not be a "fan" of "gayness"? I wasn't aware we were a fandom.... :shock:

I love my yaoi. I am a fan of what I am a fan of and those that hate well you should just leave it at that. Or maybe you do love it and are just saying you hate it because you don't want to admit to yourself you're not as strait as a perfact pole.

Not my cup of tea. I prefer them hairier and more manly than the average Yaoi tends to be.
If I wanted to look at something willowy, hairless and feminine, I'd most probably just look at a woman.
I think Yaoi tends to be designed for women, and maybe guys who are into feminine guys, to look at.
Personally I'd rather have me some Bara.
I'm not that into arty erotica, I'm a bit of a philistine I guess, as it's rare that any kind of art work does anything for me other than make me think "meh, a photograph would have been easier to take and would most probably look better" but on the occasions where I do feel that way inclined and I'm in the mood for something Japanese, Gengoroh Tagame produces some work that's quite erm... entertaining? :D

I believe this thread was asking our opinions on it I was simply stating that I hate it in general, I do read fanfiction ones that are not gay like that lol. I dont hate gay people or anything of the sort but I don't want to know anything about them in that sense. I get offended when people take characters I like and make them gay because its not ever going to happen. it could also be because I am a boy and completely straight so It probably would not be normal for me to like it anyways.

But you have a point. You were stating you didn't enjoy it, and a few posters assumed that were totally hatin', which you weren't.

Everyone is always so big on 'acceptance' that sometimes we expect everyone to like it, which is an unfair assumption.

I have loads of gay friends in real life. I don't mind watching them kiss, have PDAs, or anything I don't mind watching a straight couple do - though it should be said that anyone sucking too much face, regardless of the orientation of the relationship, grosses me out.

But honestly... yaoi doesn't do anything for me. I'm a straight girl. Why would I want to look at two very feminine guys making out, as the string of spit loops between their mouths? ...Particularly when these ultrafemme, super-hot guys would never be interested in ME, you know? :lol: Turn-on factor is zero.

I don't hate yaoi. But I would never, ever get into it for the romance. It has to have a really good plot (like Loveless, for instance) for me to get into it.
