Plot
The blue skinned Twilight elves, and the pale skinned Illumine elves have been at war for centuries. Finally, however, peace has been promised with an arranged marriage between the eldest Princess of the Twilight elves and the Prince of the light elves. As they were supposedly alone in the Illumine elves’ royal garden’s, however, the prince was murdered. The Princess stands accused and the Illumine elves have given an ultimatum.
The Twilight elves must find proof of another murder or surrender the princess for execution in two months time, it is either that or war will be declared once more. The Twilight elves can not afford to give up their princess who is also their most powerful mage and responsible for most of their shields around their underground cities. So it is find another murderer or war…
Their culture.
The Twilight elves are mainly a warrior culture with few gifted in magic, their princess being an exception and the opposite of most with her weak body and strong magic. The few who are born with a strong pull to the magic arts are considered blessed by the goddess and must become priestesses in her worship. They live in the temples separate from the others and specialize in earth as well as fire magic. They use special smokeless fire spells to light their world with pale blue orbs. Their lore says that this is the cause for this is a reflection of the goddess' warmth and that this is why the Twilight have blue tinged skin.
They all worship the land as the earth mother and live in a strange, warm underground world. The priestess' also use their earth magic to grow vegetables which are very rare in their world. Those who live outside the temples use giant rats they breed as their 'work horse' animal and hunt strange underground beasts for their meat. They believe the 'surface dwellers' were cast out for disrespecting the goddess and believe under the earth to be the most sacred place.
Illumine elves are rather the opposite of the Twilight elves. Illumines are a culture based off of magic. They are an agile race and adept at the bow and arrow, with only a select few (one being Li’ing) that can handle the blade. Magic is their lifestyle. In fact, it has been within the Illumines culture for so long it is often felt that the very air around these elves are permeated with the sparks of magic. Nature also plays a big part in the Illumines lives. Their homes are often found deep within the oldest of forests, peaceful places that are very open with pristine buildings that seem to glow with an ethereal light. These buildings are often found built around natural things, it wouldn’t be strange to find a large tree growing in the middle of one home or to see another home with a river running straight through it.
They worship a goddess as well, though they believe her to be the very embodiment of magic. She is all-knowing and benevolent. She is also very wise in their eyes. Their rulers are respected as messengers of the goddess and the royal family has always been known to be the kindest of the Illumines. They are also known to be the harshest when dealing with betrayals.
The Illumines mostly live off of vegetables that they grow themselves as they believe life to be a precious present from their goddess, meat is not eaten in their culture, though fish can be found every so often at a meal. These elves get on wonderfully with all sorts of wildlife so it wouldn’t be strange to see all manner of companions in their homes.

The Start
Megora paced in her room in the great castle of the Illumine elves, her long white dress trailing behind her. Her pale blue skin was slightly paler from lack of sleep as she tried to figure out what she knew. In the meeting she had been able to stop her people from being forced into war but just barely. She would have to find the killer, or at least someone who appeared to be the killer, or many would die. She could not allow that…but she knew very little. She’d left to keep from hitting him for saying something about her skin and returned to find him dead… she hadn’t even heard anything.
“how could I hear nothing…“ She stopped her pacing, punching the wall even as it bruised her delicate, slender fingers. She was lucky it hadn’t broken. She was an elf, her long ears caught almost every sound. No wonder the Illumine elves did not believe she was innocent, she wouldn’t either. She whimpered, her anger not protecting her from the pain as she pulled back her hand with an oath.
”Stupid…” she chided herself as she rubbed her hand, holding it against her chest. She was frowning, staring into space as she did so. She decided to return to the garden, perhaps she had missed some clue? She doubted it but it was her life and her people on the line… If it would save them she would sacrifice her life but without her shielding it left her people to vulnerable.
She shook her head, sighing as she stepped out of her room and locked it behind her. She swept towards the gardens through the beautiful halls, not glancing at the ornate decorations. She was watching her feet instead, her mind still on the murder. She kept reviewing it in her head… she’d only left him a minute. She frowned, biting her lip as her slender shoulders felt the weight of the world upon them…

To say Li'ing was frustrated would have been an understatement. The loss of his older brother had been a devastating blow to his heart but he would live, but now this! How could his parents even think of putting all the blame on Megora? The poor girl had enough to deal with as it was.
When she'd arrived a week or so prior, Li'ing had been tasked with the job of showing the Princess of the Twilight elves around. Which meant he'd spent a lot of time with the girl. his brother had other things to deal with, which were apparently more important then getting to know his fiancee. Li'ing had grumbled a bit at the beginning but he did his job as it was expected of him. he played the perfect guide. over time, Li'ing found that he thought of Megora as a friend more and more with each passing day. soon he would take time out of his busy schedule to just talk with her, even bringing her with him to the training areas so that he could still talk to her while working on his skills with the sword. He felt...no, knew that Megora would never have killed his older brother.
This all had to be a set-up. Li'ing knew his older brother was extremely opinionated and pig-headed, he'd probably made an enemy or two in his lifetime...maybe they'd somehow gotten in and killed the ex-prince. Li'ing wasn't sure. He breathed deeply through his nose before getting up from the seat he had occupied through the entire trial and made his way out of the halls, there had to be something to prove Megora's innocence. Something, but what...?

Megora pulled her shawl closer, finding the surface strangely cold compared to her under ground city. She was more use to it then before when she’d worn a coat but it was still a little chilly and her dresses were thin material more suited for her underground home which was kept warm by their mystical fires and the stone insulation combining with their own body heat. She had found the people of this world a little cold as well she thought absently, except for the second oldest prince. At least he she could get along with and liked, the one who was dead… well perhaps she could see why she might be tempted to kill him.
Just as she thought of this and half chuckled to herself she spotted Li and raised her hand in greeting. Her black lips curled into a warm smile and she tried to hide the fatigue in her eyes…. He did make her feel a little better and feel a little more energy at least. Other then her attendants he was one of the few people she actually trusted. He was about the only man she didn’t think might be out to frame her. She was a convenient patsy she had to admit.
”Hello ….” she greeted softly, inwardly a little worried. She did wonder if he’d think she was guilty so she waited. He had probably defended her as the Illumine’s argued behind close doors to ensure she could not use her magic to affect them. They did not know what all she could do, and honestly she liked it that way. If they ceased to fear her ability to fight their own magic they would cease to fear her people.

Gylil took a deep breath, waking from her meditation easily. Smoothing her robes as she stood, she listened for any sounds in the small room, nodding and walking slowly from the room, pausing just outside it as she heard a hello. Not directed at her, of course, but the Prince who's breathing she could hear. The one who spoke was the Twilight woman, their princess. A soft smile came to her lips as she turned to face them, giving a small bow to both.

Li'ing paused in his wandering and turned to smile at Megora, who had greeted him. He noticed that she was holding tightly to a shawl she had over her shoulders and raised an eyebrow. Was she cold? He himself found the temperature to be cool, a nice change from the tenseness of the meeting hall. Then he reminded himself that Megora was probably not used to the changing temperatures of the surface world as her people lived under the earth. Li'ing wondered sometimes how they could live without feeling the warmth of the sun bathing their skin in it's wonderful light, but he never brought up the topic with Megora.
"My lady." Li'ing greeted the Princess with a nod to show that he acknowledged her presence.
A movement from the corner of his eyes caught his attention and Li'ing turned to see a priestess bowing towards the two of them. "Priestess Gylil..." he murmured in acknowledgment.

She was visibly relieved as he smiled at her, seeming to have not expected it. She nodded in acknowledgment, about to say something when she realized someone else was approaching. She could feel the priestess magic, which was another thing that disturbed her about the death. All elves, and most of the humans here, held at least a tiny spark of magic even if they didn’t know it. She was sensitive to it but she had felt nothing. Then again she had been so angry that she’d deliberately pulled her magic inside her so her flaring aura would not make the prince feel he was going to be attacked so it probably meant nothing.
”Priestess” She said quietly, her r’s purring softly due to the slight accent her native tongue gave. It was the only sign in her rich but lyrical voice but it was still there. She’d trained herself for months to lose any accent but could not get rid of the purr. It was slightly thicker then usual due to her being a little nervous, a bad habit of hers.
”Prince… I was going to look at the garden once more… perhaps one of you should accompany me to make sure I don’t damage any clues…” There was a dark, mischievous humor in her voice as she said this. Gallows humor some might call it. She knew nothing she found would be accepted without someone to verify… but she didn’t expect much.

Gylil raised from her bow, soft smile still in place. "I would be willing to go there, I was contemplating just such a destination," she said, her voice as soft as her smile, empty eyes staring at neither of them. She did not know if the prince knew of her Sight, and was sure the princess did not. But maybe her gift would work with her for once, show her what she wanted to see. It seemed the death was traumatic enough to leave an imprint in the garden itself, but she had not been at the trial, so did not hear how exactly the prince had died. If only she could direct the Sight... But it had a will of it's own, and very little she did could help control it.

"That would be a good idea, if I ever had heard one." Li'ing answered softly. His expression turned thoughtful as he went over the details that had been presented during the meeting, his own people hadn't seemed to have exactly done a thorough investigation of the area, most likely due to the still high prejudice they held against the Twilight elves. That wasn't fair to the fair Princess in any aspect.
"If the two maidens would not mind, I shall accompany the both of you to the gardens. I wouldn't mind a look around myself." he added, nodding slightly to himself. He half turned in the direction of the gardens and decided to let the female elves go first. "My Lady, Priestess. After you."
((you know you've read too much tolkien when you are tempted to use the word "elleth" for female elf and "ellith" for female elves. XD))

”Thank you miss…” She said quietly, relieved that one of the elves would offer to help her. It had surprised her… though her community was built on cooperation, it distrusted outsiders just as much as the Illumine distrusted her if not more. She did not expect any of the elves to help her, and for a moment she felt a spark of hope. Perhaps she would not have to give up peace or her life… perhaps they could find the murderer…
She turned as she heard Li speak, giving him a warm smile. She had feared he would believe the lies and hate her too….Absently she thought she’d prefer him as a husband with some guilt. If they found the murderer he would be her betrothed now… It was an irony really, the murder may ultimately be in her favor if they could find the truth.
”I’m sure we would love your company my prince…” She said with a soft bow before heading towards the garden. She was trying to think of how the murderer even got there without her hearing or sensing anything. Yes her anger had distracted her, but could it really distract her so much? Or was the murderer just that good and that careful? She half hoped she’d just been that distracted and slow…

Li'ing gave a small bow of his own before following after Megora, letting his gaze wander around the passages they walked through before stepping onto the carpet of grass that indicated that they had entered the gardens.
Much of the Illumine city was like a garden itself so the only way to tell the difference was when the floor suddenly gave way to grass. Naturally occurring species' had been left to thrive as they would had the elves not shown up so many doorways were hung over with ivy and it wasn't strange to find flowers or trees just growing in random rooms with large windows to allow maximum sunlight passage.
Having lived there for his entire life, Li'ing was still struck by the beauty of the place, and couldn't help but wonder how anyone could commit such a high offense such as murder...especially in the royal gardens. A slight rustling in the bush to his side had Li'ing tense up suddenly as he whirled around, one hand already on his belt where he kept an elven dagger on his person at all times.
"Be calm, My Prince, or others will think you to be suspect in this case of murder most treasonous." a familiar voice wafted out. the branches of the bush were pushed aside and out stepped an elf of the same pale complexion as the Prince. This elf though did not sport the gray eyes of royalty, instead, his eyes burned a molten gold and his hair ebony to Li'ing's snow. Li'ing's muscles relaxed and a smile spread across his lips as he stepped forward to greet his long-time childhood friend.
"Tia'an. It is good to see you my friend." Li'ing said as the two Illumine elves clasped hands and exchanged a quick one-armed hug. "And you Li'ing, though I had wished for our reunion to be in a much...less troubled time." Tia'an responded.
The two smiled at each other before Li'ing turned to where he had last seen Megora and spoke up again. "My Lady, i do not believe you have met my long-time companion. This is Tia'an aiRay. And Tia'an, this is the Princess of the Twilight elves, Megora Daedhrogel." Tia'an bowed to the Twilight elf, "It is an honor to meet you My Lady."

Megora whirled at the sound, inwardly half expecting it to be an attack to revenge the prince by some random loyalist. Her vivid eyes turned pale, empty, and milky blue as they filled with power briefly as she prepared to defend herself if necessary. It was an accidental habit really, gone from too long a war and being the target of more then one assassination through out the war by misguided loyalists. Still she found a much more welcome person and the power faded. Long time companion? First it had been a boisterous man who insulted her people at their introduction as a back handed compliment to her and now a gay man? Ah well, she’d imagined much worse things when she essentially sold herself for her people’s peace.
”No, The honor is mine…” She answered after glancing between them with a secretive smile. She could be wrong, ‘companion’ for the Illumine might not be quite as intimate a term as it was for the Twilight as some terms did not translate well between their languages. For now, however, she would assume it meant the same and that Li and Tia were on intimate terms. She returned the bow with an equally elegant one as she gazed at the two. It was a pity.. They were both so very handsome.
”Do you come to .. Help investigate the murder?” She asked curiously, tilting her head to the side. She was uncertain quite yet if she could trust him, not knowing him well. She barely knew she could trust Li. She did think of him as a dear friend, he’d made her laugh when all the others insulted her, but she knew not where his loyalty was…

Gylil followed the two higher-ranking elves quietly, mentally poking the part of her mind that gave her the visions, hoping to rouse it. When they got to the gardens, and another elf spoke, she refrained from smiling at the prince's reaction, not all elves could hear one another breathing. But she had been blind since birth, and had to develop such.
She spoke, bowing to the prince's friend as she did so. "Good day to you, Tia'an aiRay." the bow wasn't as deep as for the two royals, but it was still deep. She stepped a touch closer, feeling her power start to waken. She let it, taking a deep breath to help herself relax, what she was likely to see would not be pretty.
((I'm not going to have her see the actual murder, just fragments of all sorts of things that have happened in the gardens.))

Tia'an straightened up before quirking an eyebrow. "Helping with the investigation...yes, I suppose I can do so." Li'ing shook his head and clarified for his friend. "Actually, the truth is that Tia'an has been away on a journey for the last couple of years. This is the first time I've seen him since."
Tia'an rolled his shoulders slightly before indicating that they should continue on to the murder scene with a nod of his head. "While it may be true that I have been away, I got back about a week ago. I am sorry my friend, I had been too busy until now to come see you again."
Li'ing frowned slightly at the knowledge that no one had thought it important to tell him about his childhood friend's return. "Ahi dryyrn, Tia'an." Do not worry. A phrase that had passed Li'ing's lips many times now. "Oh, as you've been gone for so long...do you still remember the Priestess Gylil?" "I do."
With introductions done, the Prince fell silent, his eyes darting around the garden once again. Tia'an took a couple of steps away from his friend, looking around on his own. Tia'an was a better investigator than Li'ing at any rate. While Li'ing was one of the few Illumine elves that could use weapons, Tia'an was pure Illumine in the sense that his abilities with any weapons besides a whip were horrible. He stuck to his magic and seemed to excel in tracking. His eyes would catch anything that Li'ing and the others missed.

She watched the two, nodding gently. She was curious about the journey but did not ask. He was not her friend so she had no right to inquire. She wasn’t sure he even thought she could be innocent, he might just be humoring his friend. She glanced towards the prince, suppressing a sigh. Did he trust she was innocent or just consider it a remote possibility.
”thank you for joining us….” She said respectfully to Tia’an and gave him a smile before moving to the scene. She didn’t know what to think… Just frowning at the scene. The body had been moved but she could still see every detail clear in her mind. She had seen many dead bodies, even caused many herself. As the most powerful mage she was the only one of her people who had the strength to cast spells that could protect the Illumine’s spells so despite her status she had to be on the front lines. Yet this had been so different… it seemed… wrong that such a thing could touch this garden.
She shook her head, looking away and frowning at a nearby flower. How could her plan to save her people have gone so wrong? Was this her fault? Was the murder an attempt to ruin the treaty? Was one of her own attendants who she trusted with her life responsible? She sighed gently, putting her head in her hand a moment as if it hurt her..

The blind elf took a few steps off to the side, one hand reaching out to a tree to not run into it. She was starting to get flashes, images with no continuity, like a dream poorly remembered. She sat down on the bench below the tree, flashes getting stronger, more cohesive. Loud voices, an argument? The sound of footsteps, a blue-skinned woman storming away. A pale figure holding a sword, was it stone?
She gasped, biting back a scream, what color she had draining from her face. Oh, how she wished she had gone to the trial, heard how he had been killed. It would have made her ready for this. But she hadn't, and now saw the weapon used, the end result. Her mind blotted out the worst of it, protecting itself from the gruesome death itself, but she had seen enough to know the Twilight princess had not done it.

((Sorry I haven't been so active!))
Firil danced out of the kitchen, holding a plate of food. A maid had told her to get some food ready for Li'ing and his guest. It was courteously, after all. But by the time she reached the meeting room, there was not an elf in sight. Maybe Li'ing was showing the Twilight elf around the castle? Or...
She swiftly put the warm food down on the table and left the room. The butler's feet were quickly guiding her to a very familiar place. After all, the Twilight elf was very likely to have wanted to go there... Even though Firil didn't really know the details of the murder, she somehow knew the Twilight elf wasn't the one who killed the beloved Prince. It would have been way too obvious. And stupid. That didn't mean that the princess wasn't behind the murder.

Tia'an and Li'ing both saw the two females of the group in some sort of distress and gave each other a nod before approaching them.
"My Lady, does something ail you?" Li'ing asked, stepping closer to Megora. He hadn't seen his brother's body in the garden, only after it had been brought in and cleaned. The others had deemed it too gruesome a sight for the "young" prince to see. Sometimes he wondered what his life would be like if he weren't a prince. Maybe he'd be allowed to travel as freely as Tia'an...and maybe he would have been allowed to see the scene of his brother's death...though he doubted that as well. Only a select few had seen the scene after the murder had been discovered. Li'ing mentally sighed as he waited for Megora's answer.
Tia'an on the other hand, approached the priestess. "Priestess Gylil..." he stopped before the quickly paling elf female and kneeled in the grass. "What has happened?" worry laced his words as his naturally caring nature welled up within him, some of it spilling out.
Further away, hidden in the shadows and with their magical presence suppressed, an elf hid, watching the group with narrowed eyes.

Megora heard someone walking closer and glanced up at Li, dropping her hand. She was so tired and had worked so hard….It had been such a long journey and now she seemed at stage one. Still she hid it behind those vivid eyes of hers and gave him a warm if tired smile. She nodded and held up a hand as if to wave him off.
“I’m alright, thank you Prince…. I’m just… a little tired.” she lied quietly. She did not want to worry her friend no matter how her head hurt. She did see a touch of concern, however, and that began to relax her. He really did count her as much of a friend as she thought of him. Perhaps he really did believe her after all….

The preistess's green-gold eyes stared blankly ahead, the visions broken by Tia'an's voice. She was back to darkness, blessed darkness, now. "I... I Saw... it was not..." She took a deep breath to steady her nerves, and her wavering voice. "I saw that it was not Lady Megora who killed the prince," she managed to say, voice still wavering. She clasped her hands in her lap, aware that they were shaking badly. Never again would she sit out a hearing about a death she was going to try to See. "The Princess had been given offense, and stormed away. She was not the holder of the weapon, unless she can change her skin." Her voice was steadying now, though she was still trembling. A small voice in the back of her mind asked if Tia'an knew of her gift.

"Then i will take your word for this matter." Li'ing replied, deciding not to press the matter, as it might make whatever was bothering the princess worse. He turned his eyes back to the garden, his gaze sweeping over the grounds. "So this is where my brother fell...it is weird to think that I will never be able to challenge him to another childish bout of ...anything really." he murmured.
While he and his brother were princes, that didn't mean they had always acted like their positions dictated. True, Li'ing's older brother had been a bit...well, more than a bit insufferable at times, but when it came down to it, Li'ing was still the younger brother that he loved. The two could oftentimes be found running around laughing as they played a game that Li'ing had thought up on the spot, or a challenge that Li'ing issued to his older brother despite knowing he'd probably end up defeated yet again.
Tia'an realized it was probably not very right of him to do what he was about to do, but she looked like she needed comforting...or something anyway. Tia'an covered Gylil's shaking hands with his own larger ones, willing waves of calm to transfer over to her. He was no healer, but despite his somewhat dark appearance, Tia'an was a gentle soul and this was one thing he could do.
"Then we have good reason to believe it wasn't the Princess." he murmured. "But it worries me to hear that it is one of our own that has committed such a crime." he continued in the soft voice, keeping his peripheral gaze on the other two. "My Prince will be gladdened to hear the news, but I think it wise to keep what you know quiet for now. There is no telling who is hidden within the very shadows of our home anymore." he added.
The elf detached themselves from the wall and quickly darted away back into the safety of the castle, plans already forming in their mind. If they were found out then death would most certainly be an inevitable end.

Megora nodded as he accepted it but watched him a moment longer. She could see grief now, though he had hidden it well. She sighed softly, instinctively putting a comforting hand on his shoulder. She did not like his brother or feel bad for his death, who made it clear that he thought of her as just a twilight concubine or spoils of war, his prize for not continuing to kill her kind. Li, however, he was her friend and his pain tore at her.
”I… am sorry for your loss… of everything…” She said quietly, frowning at the ground. It was partially her fault at any rate, it had to have something to do with the treaty…. So now he lost his brother and any lover he might have as he’d be forced to marry her. She glanced at Tia’an still thinking they were lovers and suppressed a sigh. How much would she cause her only Illumine friend?

Gylil calmed as the other elf placed his hands on hers, the trembling easing. A shadow of her soft smile returned to her lips, only to fade as he spoke. "I understand," she said quietly, the thought that the murderer might go after her to keep her quiet worming it way in. "Do you know a spell or object that can show what another has seen?" It might be needed, with how many she was sure thought the princess did it.

Li'ing turned his head back to Megora and shook his head. "You need not apologize when it was not you who committed the murder." he said, "And I did not lose everything. I would never have been able to befriend My Lady if not for what had happened...and I still have the others in my life. My brother was merely one part, a part that will be remembered and missed, but not everything." Done with his statement, Li'ing glanced over to where Tia'an was and raised an eyebrow at the scene. Had something happened with the priestess?
Tia'an's grip on the priestess' hands tightened slightly as she spoke. "I do not. But do not despair, I am sure their is mention of something of the sort within the libraries of the palace." As if hearing Gylil's unspoken worries...or maybe because he had the same worries himself Tia'an released the female's hands before he spoke again. "I offer you my protection, if you will have it, during the duration of this investigation. It is merely a pet peeve of mine...but I worry too much about things sometimes."

Megora was silent a moment. When? He spoke as if he knew she did not. Did he really trust her so much? The truth was it touched her and there was a slight purple tint to her cheeks as she blushed faintly and looked away. She felt a pang of guilt for having doubted his faith but she said nothing about it. She simply cleared her throat and forced herself to speak.
”Yes… but as the second eldest you will be forced to marry me and away from your…companions. Even if I survive this, you will be stuck as the ambassador of your kind to my people… you‘re troubles will have just began.” She reminded him quietly. She then glanced to Tia’an and the priestess, listening in now. What had she seen? Even as she strained her hearing it was not very clear. She knew it wasn’t her but… protection? She must have seen something important.

"Being forced to marry you would be the least of my worries My Lady. I at least like you better than the other elves my parents have tried to set me up with. As I am not romantically attached to anyone, it won't cause much harm at all." Li'ing said in a detached manner as he caught a snippet of what Tia'an had said to Gylil. Had the priestess had a vision then? Of the murder?
"Being ambassador does not bother me in the slightest either. I have always longed to be able to travel from beyond the boundaries of these lands."
((sorry it's such a short reply >.<))
