is there a way to view what items another avi is using?
i looked all around and checked Jellysundae's FAQ thread,
but i haven't found any way to do it other than ask that person.

i think it would be a great addition to menewsha, if it is possible that is.
thank you for thinking of doing it for us.

edit: Iku has opened a feedback thread so please vote!
here is the link:

There's not an option for doing this on site, and to be honest, I prefer it that way. Outfits are like recipes, and all recipes have a secret ingredient that not everyone is supposed to know. Being able to click and find out the exact combination of items sort of takes away the allure and the magic if it, to me anyway.

Yes we do. It's called the 'comment' button, or the 'PM' button. And then you type "What is ____ item you have on? I like it!" And then, they respond back with their answer. Ta-da!

I don't get why people make a big deal about others knowing what's on their avatar. If someone is familiar with the items on the site they can figure it out anyway. It's not like people are going to make direct copies of someone's avatar if they know all the items anyway. As Pweep said, you can ask and most people will tell you anyway.

This idea has come out and about several times. xD And it's pretty unanimous that it's a feature a majority of the users do not want.

Technicalities aside, the more I think about this the more I'm left wondering why people don't want it.

It's not like a recipe because, unlike the finished product, I can still see what exactly is going on in an outfit. The only thing missing is the name.
If it's the general consensus that, if asked, most users would tell what their items are, then what's the big deal about letting others have the ability to know without being asked.

What about our more shy or new users? Maybe they have an awesome idea for an outfit, but don't know the names and are too shy or embarrassed to ask. What about the users that have an awesome outfit but have been gone for a long time?

I'm not against asking, I've done it before, but it's not like a PVP where you might have an advantage over someone based on your equipped items so really... really what's the big deal?

It's a personal preference. Like putting your facebook account on private. Some people just do not feel comfortable with all of their items being shown for everyone to see. Either for fear of their avatar being copied or just in general. Some may feel it's an invasion of privacy. Some just probably don't want people to see all of the items they have on in general. It's different from person to person. Just like how some people don't mind showing off what items they have.

And truth be told, this is not a site for the shy users. .-. We're encouraged to talk from the get-go.

I personally do not want it because there are other features I'd rather have than that - much useful and beneficial ones, at that.

Privacy settings on Facebook... compared to showing what my avatar is wearing... :XD

I suppose I was looking for more of a ... what I feel would be a valid reason and not just a personal preference.
In that case, maybe an option to hide what you're wearing would be suitable.

And despite being encouraged to talk, shy users still exist. I don't think it's really appropriate to say that this isn't a site for shy users. I think it's for anyone that can fit into the community, shy or otherwise.

There are other things I'd like as well, but that doesn't mean other things can't be discussed. So if/when the other features you want appear, what are your thoughts then?

It's the best thing to compare to. Some people would rather have their items/information hidden from the public eye. ^^ It's not a farfetched analogy. I'm sorry if you missed that point I was trying to make.

And really, look at events here. You have to post in order to get the commons/event items - there's really no other way to get an antiquate amount of the event currency to do so. I wouldn't say it's inappropriate to say that this site isn't for shy people, because really, that is the case. We're constantly encouraged to talk to people and express our opinions. We even are given double gold now the day CIs are released for our posts. If that's not encouraging people to talk/post, I'm not sure what is. :]

I never said it couldn't/shouldn't be discussed, so I'm not sure where you got that from. xD But really, I think it's a rather useless feature in my opinion. Mainly because I would chose to disable it, but that's my personal choice and opinion and that won't change. I'm what you call, shy, in having my equipped items shown. I know that other people would prefer to have it, but I just don't like the feature. And the last thing we need is for a feature that is hardly used (like the messenger) to be coded into the system, only to waste money because a majority of people choose to disable it. Now, if a majority of users want it, I could see why it would be a useful feature. But if not, what's the point of coding it in?

No I didn't miss your analogy. I just thought it was funny. I even addressed that what I was looking for was a valid reason and not a personal preference. Which is what you stated they were. Which is probably all it will ever be and I get that.

And again, despite being encouraged to talk, shy users still exist here.
You don't have to post in order to get event items as they can still be bought with gold. And gold can be obtained through playing the games. I acknowledge that this is a bit ehhhh, but it's not impossible. And now with the Marketplace, users can buy CIs with mennies and sell them in the MP to obtain more gold. No discussion required.

I never said you did.
I came to that conclusion because you said you didn't want it because you want other features. To me this doesn't exactly leave much open for discussion from you. I'm not trying to say "omg we need this right nao", more "this would be neat, I would use it, and I think it would be helpful to others." I agree that if the majority of people ended up disabling the feature and it was generally more hassle than its worth that it should be taken away, but I also believe that it would have to be implemented first to accurately gauge that.

i'm a 2007 member but not active until the summer boardwalk event.
i am not familiar with the item names and i do ask people but they do not respond.
so i have stopped asking.

sorry i was unfamiliar with the unanimous opinion that it is an unwanted feature.
i think it is a helpful feature, especially if you have the option to 'hide' your items and not let others see what you are wearing on your avi.

ps. i do have to say this is why i stopped coming to menewsha in the beginning.
it seemed to me most people wanted things 'their way or the highway' and it was so slow i felt i did not belong here.
i was simply putting out there an option i think is a useful one for myself and not wanting to start a war.
sorry you guys.

You could always create it, and have an option where people can turn it off.

A hide option would be good for those who don't want to show what they are wearing. It's good to hear the voices of the community. Don't feel bad about posting your idea. The whole point in the feed back forum is to post feedback.

I wouldn't say it's unanimous that users don't want it since the last time it was brought up there were users that did want to feature or wouldn't mind it, myself included.

Several people have been pretty vocal about not wanting a feature like this. But in general the small but vocal minority are the ones you tend to hear from in threads like this. There's usually a large amount of ambivilant people who don't care enough either way to respond, and a few who would really like and appreciate something. But the "hell no!" people are always the loudest :)

Sorry for hijacking the thread and deviating from the topic a bit!

I do agree with having a hide function as stated in my second post.

And as with what Jelly said, I've noticed that and it's a bit disheartening. It seems that every time someone suggests something, plenty of people come and reject it. =\ (I'm sure it's not every time, just from the few threads I've looked at, there seems to be plenty of "No thanks.")
Honestly I'm mostly with the crowd that doesn't really care either way (I'm not dying wishing we had this feature, but I wouldn't mind it), but because I feel like there's more "nays" than "yays" overall, this is me trying to get my "yay" voice out there for things. I digress again! D:

Thats what kinda bugs me. I'm not saying vocal is bad but it also seems to chase users that normally wouldn't post feedback away, which I think is a bad thing. It's more how people word things when they disagree.

you didn't hijack the thread.
i value yours and everyones opinion.
but like you mention when people like just bash your idea it is disheartening.
and i stayed away from menewsha in the beginning because of it.
i wish i had just stuck aroung in the lurker mode to be honest but live and learn.
the reason i like the option is because some people seem offended when you ask what they have on their avi.
it took me forever to figure out what some green things were on peoples avi's and that is why i figured i would suggest the view button.
anyway i appreciate everyone's input.

yes, i am actually scared a bit by site feedback.
especially since viewing gaia's way of pushing out everyone who doesn't agree with THEIR opinion on something.
the few 'HELL NOER'S; do not outweigh the many's opinions but they do seem to have the best way of intimidating them.
and i think suggestions, even if they have been discussed before have a right to be voiced *typed* and looked at again.
i can live without this option for sure but it would make things much easier to find, for me at least.

i agree Mystic.
not everyone looks at things the same way and a good suggestion may come out of a post.
i think site feedback should be a hassle-free zone.
even IF it has been discussed before and decided that it is not needed to those before.
anything that makes menewsha better for even a few is a good thing.
the 'hide' option makes it a non-issue to users who do not want the options.
everyone wins.
me likie that <3.

I would support this function! Those who are so totally against it should be able to hide it if they want but I don't see the problem with knowing what others wear! Sometimes I just can't tell but I want to know but I don't know them so I just don't ask and give up.

It's one of the EIs from the 2009 Easter Event. :) It's called On the Farm.

And personally I'm one of those that don't really care either way if it's implemented...I mean, yeah, it's useful when you don't recognize an item, but I rarely ever need it since I usually do. The ones I don't recognize are usually female-only items, so it's not like it'd do me any good anyway... (...now that I think about it, I barely recognize any of the female-only items...I'd know what most of them look like, but have no idea what they're called :XD)

I'm on 飛段's side this time. I hardly ever have to ask, unless it's a pose I don't recognise, so it wouldn't effect me directly. It's a good idea for the shier users though. I say that if it can be done, why not?
