This is a fantasy story I started this morning at school after I had finished my work, and ended up working on it all day, expanding and expanding it :) Please at least appreciate it a little, I had to transfer my messy writing from my notebook to this nice typed font xD

Two Swords

Prologue

The two majestic swords clanged together again like thunder in the quiet of the cold October night. Then came the cry of a wounded warrior whom, in a split second, had his pride, honor, and dignity taken away from him, all from a swish and flash of steel.

Chapter 1

"Mark! How could you have slept in so late? I can't believe you! Get up, get up!"

Mark groaned. This was another one of the nannies that the king, his father, had hired to take care of him while he was busy with the kingdom's affairs. Mark always either scared them away or annoyed and frustrated them until they quit. The last one had practically run out of the door, screaming "He's a devil child! A devil!" while Mark sat and stared at the floor. Mark's father, the king, watched the nanny go with an entertained expression on his face.

"I don't understand how you can get them to leave so fast." his father said, shaking his head and chuckling. "That one only lasted a month!"

"Father, when can I start my training to become a knight?" Mark replied, completely ignoring the situation with the nannies.

"As soon as you learn to be nice to people and behave." His father replied, sighing. "I guess I'll go tell the postman to go into Tristram and look for a new Nannie."

"Oh! Can I come? The only time I've ever been to Tristram was the one time the King from Rose Thorn hosted a party there!" Mark said eagerly.

"That will probably be the last time, at least until your a fully grown man."

"Thats all you ever say though! Its always things like "Maybe when you grow up" or "When your a man"! I get so sick of it!" Mark yelled, running back to his room.

A few minutes later, he heard a soft knock on the door. He got up and wiped his face of the tears he had just been crying, hoping it was going to be his father apologising and saying that it would be ok if he went to Tristram. Instead, though, upon opening the door he was greeted with a strange face, one of a man he had never seen before. The man had a loarge scar running from the top of his head, through his left eye, and down to the corner of his mouth. Mark prepared to run, as he wasn't sure whether this main was a friend or foe.

"Relax, Markus. Your father sent me to fetch you. We have something very interesting to tell you." The main said, grinning a grotesque grin.

Chapter 2

Mark followed the man down to the training grounds, which Mark thought would be an odd place to have a discussion with his father.

"Ah, Mark! My son! You have arrived!" His father said, with joy on his face.

What, Mark wondered, could make his father so joyous that he would have invited him down here to the training ground, all while having a tankard in his hand?

"Now don''t you give me that suspicious look, boy. Do you know who this man here is?"

Mark shook his head.

"Hes the head trainer and head knight here at the castle, and today, it will be your first day training as a knight!"

Mark couldn't believe his ears. A knight! Wait. Was his father just trying to get rid of him? Who cared?! He was going to become a knight!

"Thank you, father!" Mark said.

"Well, you should at least learn your trainer's name!"

Mark blushed, his cheeks turning a bright red.

"I am Sayik. It is very nice to meet you, Markus Themius."

That was the family and kingdom name, Themius. Not very many people called him by his full name, but when they did it sent chills down his back. To think that one day he would be where his father was now, the King of these lands for hundreds of miles around.

"Well then," Sayik said "Let us begin."

CHAPTER 3

Sayik had given Mark a full suit of leather armor along with a wooden sword and shield.

"The first lesson: Watch your opponents movements" Sayik said, with almost no emotion.

They started in a basic sword fighting stance, one foot in front of the other. Suddenly, without any hesitation or warning whatsoever, Sayik struck. It hit Mark on the side of his knee with a sickening "CRACK!". Mark fell to the ground with a yelp.

"I popped it out of the socket. You should be happy I didn't break it. I'll see you in a week, after your knee heals. Until then, practice watching your opponents movements as much as possible, whether your fighting or not." Sayik said, dropping the wooden sword that had broken in half on contact with the side of Mark's kneed, and walked away without a care.

"That's not fair!" Mark wanted to shout at him, but knew it would go to deaf ears. The doctor rushed over, accompanied by a crowd of maids and servants, ready to do anything upon command, even if that was exiling Sayik.

Mark told the doctor he needed his knee put back into the socket, and the only thing he asked of the maids and servants was to assist him in getting back to his room, where the doctor could reset his knee. He had done this once as a child with his shoulder, and the memory of the pain made him shudder. He couldn't show pain now, though. He was soon to be a knight, and knights show no pain. Only courage.

That's all for now guys! I'll edit this post when I have the next chapter done :3

Constructive Criticism would be appreciated! Comment or Donate if you liked the story! :D

Thanks for reading!

Nice story! So far... A little fast paced but it kept me interested. I can't wait till the plot deepens but don't rush yourself. Is this a short story, short novel?:mrmayor: I like the name Sayik a lot, is that a real name or out of your mind?
