People always want to say that masturbation is really that big of a crime, like it's a sin to do it, and I just want to say that it isn't a crime to masturbate. It's a fun thing to do. If you don't even know what spot to hit, how's your partner supposed to? I would like to see what other people think about masturbation, so people, what do yall think?

It's not a 'crime'. It's completely natural. It's an excellent way to release stress and endorphins with an orgasm without worrying about anything that deals with sex.
Besides it's no business of anyones what I do with my door closed. If I want to masturbate they have no right to tell me I can't.

Crimes and sins are two completely different things, and as I'm not at all religious I don't really go in for the whole 'living in sin' mantra for life. Masturbation is certainly not a crime and it is no more of a crime than sex. It's a taboo topic of conversation for a lot of people, particularly women, and although very few admit to it, everyone does. It's not a big deal to me, it's great for relieving stress and you can reach orgasm (which pumps you full of feel-good chemicals) without the aid of a partner and with no worry of pregnancy or STDs.

Not sure where it is a crime. I think it's discouraged some places but that's it. Even Islam is fine with it though they can't climax. xD

You mean sin, not crime. I don't know if in the bible there is something against sexual pleasure, I'm sure there is because the bible is for prudes and silly people, but there's nothing in the law forbidding such an act. Words may be similar, but they have different meanings.

I know this. I just was saying, if you all read more clearly, that I don't think it's against laws or a sin, because I think it's okay. I was asking people what they thought about it. And i agree with you up until u brought God up in this because he knows what he is talking about.

And I'm telling you that your use of the word is wrong, and if you know this, I can't help but wonder why you used "crime" instead of "sin" anyway.

And I didn't bring "god" up. I brought up the bible, which is completely different. Jesus hell.

We all did read what you said clearly, you mentioned the word crime (which masturbation is not, no-one in the modern world is arrested for self love) and we disagreed. We also provided our own views on this just as you asked.

Also, I'm just going to throw this out there, God didn't write the bible.

In theory, masturbation could be a crime though, it isn't in most places that I know of. But it could be. (Not that I'd really agree with it just saying that it's not something that could *never* happen.)
I mean I think sodomy is still *technically* illegal in the UK. (I'd have to fact-check on that though, but at the very least, at some point in the past, sodomy between two consensual adults was illegal there.)

As for is it a sin? Well, it depends on how you interpret your religious texts, or what you were raised to believe. Some people think it is, some people think it isn't. I'm pretty sure with Catholics, at least in regards to male masturbation is considered a sin because it is 'spilling the seed.'

I don't know much more on the subject, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Studies have been shown that it can help reduce stress, makes people feel better, and can even (for men) reduce the risk for prostate cancer.
I mean, as long as you're not doing it in front of a crowded room of students or something.

XD that made my day.

It isn't a crime at all... There's also mutual masturbation, like the dutch rudder... The only time it would be a crime is if it's in public, endangering a minor (including exposing them to lewd acts), or non-consensual mutual masturbation.

Okay so I'm going to try and ignore the OP's use of the word "crime" and the general nature of the post since it's...just so meh.

Sex in general is looked at by many in a harsh light mainly due to left over puritanical ideals. Especially in America. We are the land of the free with no set religion yet far too many of the things about this country are religiously based. I would imagine masturbation can be viewed negatively because it's sexual, and it's enjoyable and from what I know most classical religions want people to view sex as some sacred act.

Granted, some people just do not like masturbation. It's odd since yesterday this was a topic in a Skype call...one person just doesn't masturbate, never has and has no interest in it. They don't care if others do it but they just don't want to themselves. I'm not sure why, I think their view of intimacy and affection in general is skewed for whatever reason but perhaps it's just something they need to grow into, or maybe they're asexual. But they're still a good person and they have their own personal likes and dislikes.

Aside from religion I think a lot of times people are raised in homes were sex never comes up. It isn't talked about, it isn't addressed and parents just assume they'll know when to bring it up to their kid or never will, or the school will do it. Kids begin to notice their bodies and the body's urges young and without any guidance they can easily begin to feel shame and then associate sex or sexual acts with shame.

Honestly I've yet to meet someone, (male or female) who didn't do it. And quite frankly, there's nothing wrong with it. It's a harmless way to get out certain urges. lol. Your hormones can make you crazy without the release, and it feels good, so. . . whatever.

I understand people who are against it, who think that it's immoral. They see it as meaning that one cannot control oneself, and frankly this is not the case. Well. . . except of course in the case of compulsives, who. . . Let's not talk about them. XD

Not to be rude, but I personally think masturbation is kind of gross. You are more than welcome to do it yourself, but I have no interest in touching myself in that manner because I think it is wrong. I really don't care if other people do it, since it isn't my body/life, but I personally have no interest in it. So, yeah. I'd much rather be intimate with somebody else than myself or not at all. >>;

Religion or not, faith or not, it's all really personal choice.

I can actually say I don't masturbate. Really and honestly, I can say that. But not because of my beliefs in God and the Bible- not because I feel it's immoral. It's a very personal choice, though. Just like many things revolving around sex.

Beliar:
I'm glad I'm not alone in that opinion. By all means, I don't care if others masturbate. I don't find it immoral, I don't believe they're sinning. But I find the idea disgusting and would rather be with another person. So I don't masturbate.

I can actually attest to this. Depending on how your body works, if you DON'T release all that sexual tension, you have a hard time concentrating on anything. Even if you're a virgin, it still happens. I'll bet there'd be a lot less teens getting into "accidental" sex if their parents and other trusted adults told them it's okay and encouraged to masturbate.

As long as it's not in public and kept to one's self then whatever you want to do do it. Watching each other do it when you're with someone else can be fun as well. It's a type of foreplay in most cases to me. But yeah, nothing wrong with some self loving. I think as long as you're not hurting anyone people should just do what hey want.

It's a crime, but creepers still do it.

That's what the term wanker means. Someone who. . . does that. . . in a public place. Most commonly a restroom.

Yeah, you know, like news stories you hear about the creepy guys "in trench coats" in some weird place that randomly decide to "flash" women/whoever. Yeah...creepers.

Ah, I always just assumed that the term wanker just meant someone who jerked off regardless of the place, or someone who is about as charming/wanted as encountering someone self loving in your bathroom. xD

Eh, masturbation is a fact of life. If someone wants to talk to me about it? I don't care as long as it's a friend or family member - or I suppose discussing it on here could count xD

I'd have to disagree with it being gross to talk about (just like porn). Sure, it can be a little inappropriate depending on where you are or who you're with, but it's natural.
