I wrote this poem for my english class. Hope you like it. :)

Thursday

Thursday afternoon comes along.
The car is on the trailer.

The ride to Scarborough is peaceful and calm.
The sound of chatter from the front seat is ignored.

Sunshine beats down through the window.
The sea breeze blowing through.

At first, all you can smell is the ocean,
And french fries.

Then, mass chaos breaks loose.
Everybody runs around getting ready.

I pull on my suit,
Making sure everything is all set.

The hum of one hundred motors fills the air.
The smell of exhaust looms overhead.

I look up to the sky.
The familiar sight comforts me.

Then I look around.
The bright green maple and pines surround us.

I get into my car and put my helmet, gloves, and neck brace on.
Dad pulls my harness tight, and Todd leans in to say ‘Good luck.’

Then, a switch is flipped.
I’m now alone with my thoughts.

The line starts moving.
I feel hundreds of eyes watching my every move.

One mistake.
That’s all it takes.

One mistake,
And disaster can strike.

If I do something, anything wrong,
Myself or someone else could be hurt or killed.

I control the situation.
I control three thousand pounds of metal.

Me.
Just, me.

One turn at a time.
One, two, three, four.

And again.
One, two, three, four.

Then someone gets too close.
I feel myself losing control.

Everything goes silent.
I can’t hear anything except my own heartbeat.

I am facing backwards.
And then it happens.

The unthinkable.
The uncontrollable.

The other car collides with mine.
The cars dance nose to nose.

Someone else joins in.
This time in the drivers side door.

We roll.
Everything is spinning.

Out of the corner of my eye,
I see those familiar maple and pines.

Then,
All is still.

Nothing is moving.
Nobody is moving.

Suddenly, I can hear everything.
The wind, the crowd breathing, the steam coming from the engine.

Then everyone is surrounding me.
Everyone is rushing.

My head is clouded.
I can’t think straight.

A man I’ve never seen before yanks down the window net.
Then he unbuckles my harness.

He’s saying something,
But I don’t understand.

He motions with his hands.
A stretcher is brought over.

Two other men show up.
I don’t know any of them.

I just stare,
But not at them.

I stare at my surroundings.
The place where I’ve practically grown up.

Then all I feel is pain.
Sharp stabbing in my chest, arm, and head.

All I want is my family.
Where are they, why aren’t they here?

The men are grabbing me.
Pulling me out of the mangled mess that was once my car.

My car,
What have I done to my car?

I am now laying on the stretcher.
Another man gently pulls off my helmet.

I hear the crowd gasp,
As blood runs down my face.

The crew is talking to me,
But why won’t I answer?

I can’t answer.
I don’t know whats going on.

They roll me to the ambulance.
Carefully they lift me in.

There I find the strength to talk.
I plead with them for my family.

I want them here.
I need them here.

The last thought I had,
‘It was a beautiful day today.’

Then all at once,
Everything fades to black.

My eyes open.
I’m in an unfamiliar place.

The smell of bleach wafts through the door.
Beeping is coming from somewhere nearby.

A hospital.
I recognize it now.

I look around,
My family is here.

Mom is asleep in the bed next to me.
Dad and Todd in chairs.

I try to look at myself,
Not knowing what to expect.

A cast on my left arm.
From when the car hit the drivers side.

The memory fills my head.
I feel dizzy thinking about it.

Something catches my eye.
The window is open.

I can hear the ocean,
Waves crashing on the shore.

If I try hard enough,
I can even smell it.

I look up to the stars.
The stars that I’ve grown to love.

This is the place I love.
I came to close to losing it all.

It goes to show that not all poems need to rhyme.
Basically a story, an enticing story.
I personally loved it.
Literally had me on the edge of my seat, I wanted to read it all to find out what happened next.
I think you did a fine job with this.!
