... or a video store. How many have rented an anime from either the Library or Video Store where they don't seperate out whats appropriate for kids and whats not?

Iremember going to the local video store and renting every anime they had there, and becoming horribly scarred when you watch something like Advancer Tina, or the Proffessional (Golgo 13), Perfect Blue. Perfect Blue probably scarred me the most with its intense scenes of violence and sexual content.

So share what anime has scarred you in the past.

My library is pretty good with that kind of stuff. If it's m-15, you have to be over 15 or have parental permission to borrow it. And they have the different age groups on different sides of the room.

I haven't really had an anime that has scarred me. I suppose I'm good at choosing them out then XD.

My parents figured anime was just like Disney so they wouldn't read to into it. They must have started to moniter what anime they get in. Times have changed.

Yeah my PL just places all the comics into one big section (The Teen section) So you can Superman, Spider-man, Ghost in the Shell, and Inuyasha all in one big messy place. >.< The recently added the new and improved Sailor Moon and Sailor V to the mix. I really have saved a lot of money using the PL system than buying them. As I have become a lot pickier as I have gotten older.

I borrow anime from the library when I can find it, in my library they put the anime with other film and tv stuff, which is divided into childrens' and adult.

I was already a teenager by the time anime and manga really "broke out" in the States, and had borrowed and been traumatized by plenty of fantasy and horror novels through my younger days, so I was nice and desensitized by the time Akira and Battle Angel Alita became available for check out.

I do remember, though, witnessing a group of horrified older women going through the "comics" section and exclaiming loudly over how horrible it all was and how those books needed to be removed from the shelves before the children were exposed to the violence.
Funny thing was, that library was divided into a children's and an adult level, and the section they were going through was, uh, already in the adult part. I had a good internal laugh to myself thinking they should be more worried about the paperback section right behind them.

The library system in my county is kind of picky when it comes to anime and manga. Most of the anime we get goes to fine arts. What "Children's" anime we do get goes to "Children's", but it is usually Prince of Tennis or anything that is rated "A for all ages" or rated "G". As for manga, the Children's department gets anything that is rated "A for all ages" and some "T for teen" titles (such as Naruto or One Piece). As for Young Adults, the highest we get is "Teen Plus" or "OT". Since the library system had some trouble with ecchi/mature manga, we can no longer purchase unless it's mostly violence/action. Even though some branches do have rated "M" stuff, but it is the more "liberal"/affluent branches that would have the titles (which is only three or four branches out of fifty).

Anyways, even if we were able to get mature manga, there isn't much we can do to stop kids for checking it out. We can impose on a patron's (borrower's) freedom to read. So hence why there will rarely be any mature titles.

Also some librarians aren't trained to tell the difference until it is way too late. Same goes for those that volunteer for the book sale. Some manga is strictly for adults only or mature audiences. Sigh... If I was in charge, I would have a special section for Misc books for the book sale. As for the library system, there isn't much I can do there until I either get a job there after they change "management" within the next ten years or so. :-/
