“Ali honey come down for breakfast” tugging the brush through her dark brown hair one last time Alessandra fixed a flower clip in her hair, red to match her uniform, it also worked well to keep her hair out of her eyes. Checking her reflection one last time in the mirror at the end of the hallway she grabbed her bag and headed downstairs. “Good morning mom” she chirped cheerfully letting her book bag thumb to the floor by the leg of the table as she sat down, her mother, a plump middle aged woman with a few strands of gray in her dark hair smiled at her only daughter as she set a plate of pancakes down in front of her. A little boy in a high chair babbled and tossed his oatmeal to the floor giggling when the dog came over and started lapping it up. Her mother, Laura merely shook her head and smiled before shooing the dog away and cleaning up the bowl. Instead of more oatmeal she gave the dark haired toddler some cheerios to pick at. Ali took after her mother she was on the short side with dark brown straight hair and large brown eyes. Her father who came downstairs fixing his tie, although even still her mother had to fix it for him, her father was a tall man with black hair and black eye, his skin was dark a tribute to his Italian heritage.
After breakfast her father dropped her off at school and wished her a good day, waving goodbye Ali watched him drive off. Turning she skipped into the school and went to her locker pulling out the books she would need for her first period class. There weren’t many students here yet just a few who were driven here like Ali, Tauna wasn’t here yet either, so Ali went to their special place. It was a small courtyard where not a lot of people went, it was nice and quiet just the way she liked it. Taking out a book she decided to read while she waited for her friend.
Grey-blue eyes watched the screen, scrolling through the songs idly. The bus hadn’t come yet, him and a few other students were waiting on the dew covered grass for the bus. The others were in a small group chatting away but he wasn’t really in a talkative mood this morning. Nate wasn’t a morning person he was generally grumpy in the morning till around ten, people who knew him well knew that, people who didn’t learned. Stifling a yawn he finally settled on a song and turned the volume up high to drown out the annoying voices of the others as they chattered about who had done their homework and who hadn’t… or some such thing he hadn’t been paying any attention. Unable to stifle the next yawn that gripped him his eyes blurred with tears, the effect of a wide yawn, due to that he didn’t see the bus coming around the corner.
It wasn’t a terribly long bus ride and most of the students were subdued and quiet, nothing like they would be later boisterous and loud cheerful that the end of the school day had come. Leaning his head back against the seat he closed his eyes dozing off, it was thanks to a girl in the seat beside him that he woke up as they reached the school. Karen a perky blond poked him awake, grumbling at the rude awakening and suppressing another yawn he stumbled off the bus and into the cafeteria to get some breakfast.
It was late... The alarm hadn't gone off and soon a thump sounded from Tauna's bedroom. Not that anyone could hear it since her father slept like a log after one of his night shifts. Her mother... Her mother wasn't around to hear it at all from where she was. Perhaps she saw her daughter fall, but there was nothing she could do to help. Since she was practically air...
It had been at least three years since her passing, but Tauna had gotten over it. Wasn't so easy to care for herself at first, though, with her father always working the night shift, but she managed well now.
Except for today... She was having a pleasant dream she didn't want to wake up from, but her mind startled her awake somehow knowing what time it was hence making her fall off the bed. She scrambled up and got dressed in her uniform, tying a light blue ribbon in her hair on each side like she did each morning after brushing her hair out. Sometime she'd go with other colours, too, but she liked blue today.
After brushing her teeth and washing the sweat off her face from the dream, she quietly went down the stairs and into the kitchen where she picked a banana. Tauna ate it and put her shoes on at the same time then ran out the door with her bookbag in her free hand. She didn't have far to go since her house was located on the school's street and soon enough she was entering the gates and approaching the secret place, almost out of breath.
The sun reflected itself off of Ren's unnatural red hair as he entered the gates just after her and proceeded toward the school where he could be left in peace before anyone approached him with weird questions.
He wasn't really the social type to pick conversations up with others. Not even with other guys even when knowing what they were talking about. That included the times where he would be with Nate and his friends.
Usually, though, Ren kept to himself in his favourite room of the school. The gymnasium. Some days, however, he'd try to fit in with others if they were in the room with him, but other days he didn't bother unless they approached him first. In which case he'd interact as best as he could while concentrating on the weight machines. So far today was one of those quiet days and he enjoyed them. Even if Nate suddenly showed up.

The soft huffing and puffing of someone out of breath drew Ali out of her book with a rather jarring feeling, she hated when she was suddenly tugged out of the mystical pull of a book. When she was reading she always got immersed in the story and when people interrupted that it was always difficult to get right back in the same mode when the distraction left. But seeing that the interrupter was Tauna and not some random passerby she was bothered nearly so much, closing her book after carefully marking the page with her kitten bookmark she stowed it away and beckoned her friend over. “Hey Tauna better late than never, did you oversleep again?” she asked brushing her dark hair out of her eyes. Smiling at her friend she leaned back against the wall “Brian was so funny this morning, he dumped his oatmeal all over the floor, he’s starting to learn how to feed himself but he isn’t that good at it. The only thing is like this morning when he is full he ends up just pushing his food off his tray.” Ali chuckled, she felt a little bad that her mom had to clean up all of Brian’s messes constantly so she didn’t mind helping out when she got home from school. “Oh I had the oddest dream this morning, in it I was in class only the teacher was a duck….” She made a face, “it was odd you were there and so was Nate and a few other kids but out of all of us I only recognized you and Nate”
As he munched on a pop tart Nate walked around the school lost in a world of his own. His phone buzzed a text from Sarah, Sarah was his ex girlfriend who was begging for him to come back to her. He had broken up with her mainly because she didn’t interest him anymore they had gone out for oh two months. She was a pretty girl a pale blonde with large blue eyes, but she didn’t have much of a personality. After the initial attraction wore off he wasn’t left with much so he had broken it off. Since they broke up about a week ago she had started a campaign to get him back, little things, looks, notes, texts, then it escalated to talking to him. By now he was rather annoyed with her and didn’t even want to see her, but low and behold who was heading towards him. Looking around he dashed down a hallway before she could see him, he ended up near the gymnasium. It seemed as good a place as any to hide, tugging open the door he was chilled by a blast of cold air, slipping inside he closed the door behind him and looked around. The only other person in here was Ren a quiet young man with bright red hair.

"Running away from that chick again?" Ren gave a devious smile as he knew how right he was. Ren was always in the gymnasium at this time of day and Nate wasn't too far behind when the time to escape came since it was an easy room to access for those times. Big enough to hide in, too.
"You know she's just going to keep going after you till she gets her way. Unless, of course, you have a steady girlfriend. In which case she'll have to stop hounding you or whatever." Stalking would have also worked, but Ren liked to be unique in the way he spoke. Even when some things came out sounding wrong.
At least in this room Nate would be safe since no girl dared to enter without backing right out as they plugged their noses or made a disgusted face. This was the gymnasium only the guys used most of the time. The girls had their own on the floor below it but at the other end of the school.
"Sorry for interrupting your reading. I know you hate that. So do I..." She'd read in the library, however, where it was much quieter and where she could sit comfortably in a corner of the room. She enjoyed quiet places, but adored the opposite as well.
"I was having a weird dream, too. But it wasn't about a duck..." She had to giggle at that as she pictured her teacher as a duck. "I can't remember at all what mine was about. I got woken up so suddenly by the time it was getting good." She blushed at the sound of Nate's name as she finished her sentence, looking up at the sky. "Guess I forgot to set my alarm last night after getting home late." That was a mistake... She was never out later than her curfew, but her father wasn't home to notice that.
"Anyway your brother is pretty funny when he want's to be, huh? Did the dog have to help him clean it up again?"
