This story idea, like half of my story ideas, came from a dream. When I had the dream again last night, I decided "Hey lets write this thing like I threatened to last time." Then another idea hit me, "Maybe I should share it on here." So without further adieu here is my story. Feel free to read, enjoy and PM me feedback.

Chapter 1

First day at a new school, NEVER a good day. I gazed into the mirror at my reflection and signed. I have been told that I look a lot like Anne Hathaway with the long brown hair and pretty brown eyes, even the same smart mouth. I shook myself out of my reverie and brushed my hair back into a half ponytail. Then I pulled on blue jeans and a white peasant blouse, sitting down on the bed to slip on black flip flops. Standing up I grabbed my backpack and ran down the stairs, grabbing a muffin on my way out.

The bright Florida sun shone down on me as I weaved my way through the town in the direction on my new school. Finally I reached the new school building and came to a halt in front of it, nerves fluttering in my stomach like butterflies. Taking a deep breath to calm them and squared my shoulders, heading for the door. Inside I stopped to observe the people before me. There were the usual groups found in any high school across America, probably even the world. There were the geeks talking of math, science, computers and other geeky stuff. There were the jocks, showing off for the girls. And of course the popular girls...who were headed straight for me.

The leader of the group, I think I heard someone call her Gigi, was headed straight for me. All the girls were to busy primping and gossiping to notice me until Gigi slammed back into me, falling back into her friends. "Watch where you're going you klutz," she snapped.

"Well seeing as I wasn't the one moving, I would say that you are the one that needs to watch where she is going," I retorted. As I have said before, I have a smart mouth.

The girls all gasped, a startled expression on Gigi's face. "You can't talk to me like that. Do you KNOW who I am?" Gigi snarled.

"You are the girl who was too busy gossiping to watch where she was going," I answered. "But I'll let you off this time." I turned and started walking away, meeting what appeared to be the school principle.

"What is going on here?" He demanded taking in the hostile looks on Gigi and her troupe's faces.

"Mr. Johnson, she ran into me and then started insulting me," Gigi whined to the principle shooting me an evil grin when he wasn't looking.

Mr. Johnson turned his steely gaze on me. "Detention. Not a promising way to start your first day here Rayn." He handed me the slip and walked away.

"Shouldn't have messed with me," Gigi smirked walking away, posse in tow.

"Whatever," I muttered heading for my first class. A guy leaning against the wall caught my attention for some reason. He looked like a mix of Native American and Latin blood with long black hair and a tough, don't-mess-with-me attitude. He had on blue jeans with rips in them and a black tee-shirt. His dark eyes in his bronze face drilled holes in me as I passed.

I shook my head. "This place is crazy," I muttered, heading for my first class. "Detention, guy staring holes in me, this should be an interesting day."

I reached my first class of the day which happened to be Geometry, not a great way to start out the day for someone whose strong point is NOT math. I scribbled notes as the teacher droned on about proofs, theorems and angles. All the information being poured into my head made it want to swim.

Chapter 2

The day passed with English, Anatomy and Physiology, American History and finally it was time for detention. Gigi smirked at me as I passed her in the hall on the way to detention. I ignored her, not letting it bother me. I had a feeling that my smart mouth would probably get me into trouble again soon.

Back in an out of the way room was the room were detention was held. I stepped in and looked around; four faces stared back at me including Mr. Don't-mess-with-me glare. They were all what Gigi's ilk would call rejects. One was a computer nerd who had asthma, if the inhaler in an outside backpack pocket was any indication. Another was a punk dressed girl with purple highlights.

"Sit down and be quiet!" Mr. Johnson commanded coming into the room. "You guys stay in here until I come dismiss you. Keep it quiet and DO NOT leave or you will find yourself here for the next two days. Understood?" His steely gaze swung over the class, looking for anyone willing to mouth off. All he got in response to his question were nods and mumbles, which was apparently enough to satisfy him because he turned and left, closing the door behind him.

I dropped into the desk next to the black haired guy with the attitude. Everybody but Mr. Attitude looked at me with interest, some trying to hide it. Guess that curiosity is one of the joys of being the new one in school. I figured I might as well satisfy their curiosity and introduce myself.

"I'm Rayn," I said. "Guess you've noticed I'm new."

They all nodded their acknowledgement. "I'm Warren," said the asthmatic kid. "Names Amethyst," said the punk girl.

I nodded a greeting to each as they introduced themselves. The guy with the long black hair and ripped jeans stayed silent. Finally I decided to take matters into my own hands. "You got a name or shall I just make up one for you?" I asked.

He turned his attention to me finally, but it was that same burning gaze of before, the one that seemed to drill holes through you. "Of course I have a name," he growled in a deep voice.

"That's Jesse," piped up Warren helpfully.

"Jesse huh," I murmured. "That seems fitting."

"What did you do on your first day to get you in here?" Warren asked curiously. Wayne looked very interested as did Amethyst though she tried to hide it.

"Apparently Gigi doesn't like people who don't jump when she says," I said with a shrug.

"You STOOD UP to Gigi?" Warren asked in shock. Amethyst looked pretty impressed too and nodded in agreement with what I had done.

"She isn't the boss of me so I see no reason to kiss up to her and do whatever she demands." I reached into my backpack and pulled out my geometry book and started looking at my homework assignment. As I looked down at the assignment it might as well have been Greek. "Anybody get geometry?"

"Sure," Warren said as if geometry were as easy as addition. He slid out of his seat and came over to look at the book. He starts explaining things and I begin to understand. Time passes and before I know it, we hear footsteps in the hall and in comes Mr. Johnson.

"You guys shape up; I don't want to see you here tomorrow. Now go home," he said pointing out the door. The five of us grab our stuff and hurry out the door before he decides to keep us longer.

Chapter 3

We all have our secrets and mine stood before me, one that no one at school knew about and wouldn't for a while. I live and work at one of those posh riding stables for tourists that lies near the beach. My room is a small apartment built into a corner of the loft. In exchange for working in the stables when I am not in school, I get the room rent free and free board for my horse, plus a small amount of money for food and clothes.

I snagged my horse's bridle on the way by the tack-room before continuing on down the aisle to the stall. A tall, black Foundation Morgan stallion with long mane and tail stood inside. Intelligent brown eyes peered out from under a forelock that brushed the end of his nose. He rears up, striking out at the wall with his front hooves.

"Easy there Bellisario," I crooned, slipping into the stall with him. He tossed his head up and down, pawing at the bedding on the floor. I reached up and rubbed under his forelock, crooning soothingly to him. He snorted but calmed down, life has been hard on the animal. Until me he hadn't been treated right since he was a foal. Between abuse and some time running wild, I am really the only person who can handle him.

He nickered softly and took the bit from my hand. I slipped the headstall up over his ears and rubbed a hand down his neck. I opened the stall door and led Bellisario out and down the aisle. Once outside the stables, I slipped the reins over his head and then vaulted nimbly onto his back. I turned him down the trail that leads to the beach and signaled him for a trot.

Once we reached the beach, I slowed him to a walk before queuing him for the Spanish walk, a movement where the horse moves its front legs up and forward with a very exaggerated movement and a bit of hesitation before they put it down. After a bit the call of the waves became to much and I turned him towards the water. Bellisario splashed and pawed at the water, as the waves lapped around his hooves.

We went deeper and deeper until he was swimming and snorting. I held onto his mane and gripped with my knees, trying not to float off his back as we played. Finally we turned back to the beach, both of us breathing hard. Bellisario was still prancing and snorting though, rearing as a bird flew by. He danced and pranced, neck arched, all the way back to the barn. I halted him at the door and slid from his back, pulling the reins off over his head.

I led him through the stables and back to his stall, closing the door behind us. I slipped the bridle off of his head and rubbed up under his forelock. I brushed him down and settled him in for the night, finally making my way upstairs. Time for homework before starting another day of school.

Chapter 4

I got to school the next morning and walked in the door. And there, almost as if she were waiting for me, was Gigi and entourage. She spied me and smiled an icy cold, aloof smile.

"Well look who's here girls. Did you learn anything yesterday?" She asks, her tone as aloof and icy as her smile.

"If you mean to kiss up to and fear you like everyone else than you can forget it," I replied, brushing past her. I didn't even touch her, but I heard a shriek and turned to find her on the floor holding her ankle.

As if out of nowhere, Mr. Johnson appeared. "What is going on here?" He asked sternly, looking between Gigi on the floor and me.

"Sh...she just shoved me to the floor," Gigi whimpered like puppy. "I didn't do anything."

Mr. Johnson turned to me. "Rayn I expected better out of you. You showed such promise and all you have done is get in trouble." He handed me the expected detention slip and helped Gigi to her feet, before leaving.

"I rule this school," she said smugly. "Sooner or later you will relent or get expelled. I always get things the way I want."

"Well it sounds to me like its about time you got introduced to real life where you don't get everything you want," I retorted just as the warning bell for first classes rang.

I turned and left a sputtering Gigi behind, her entourage trying to console her. I couldn't help the smile that quirked up the right side of my mouth. I reached Geometry and dropped into my desk, trying not to groan.

The day passed uneventfully and before I knew it, it was time for detention again. I reached it to find the same group as yesterday all assembled. Mr. Johnson came in right behind me.

"You know the drill," he growled at us. "And Rayn, stop getting in trouble." He left then, closing the door behind him.

I looked around me at group and shook my head. "Gigi?' I asked and they nodded, Jesse ignoring me as usual. "So what is Gigi's problem and why does everyone kiss up to her?"

"Her dad owns this town and she has him wrapped around her finger since her mom died. Tommy Berkstein ticked her off really bad one day and the next, his parents shop had been seized. They were left with nothing and left town." Warren sat back proudly, waiting for my response to his story.

I shook my head sadly. "So she gets EVERYTHING she wants and everyone lives in fear. That's retard and its no wonder she thinks she is queen of the world."

"You should watch yourself around her, who knows what she might do to you," Warren warned.

"I'm not afraid of her," I retorted, knowing that I would probably end up moving on sooner or later anyway. All she could take from me would be my job at the stable and if she tried to take Bellisario it wouldn't do her any good. He won't let anyone else ride him.

Warren gasped and Amethyst looked shocked, even Jesse looked vaguely interested. Before they could say anything or ask gobs of questions, Mr. Johnson came barging in. "All right, detention is over. Go home and STAY OUT OF TROUBLE!"
