As the Phoenix Jubilee festivities draw to a close, the activity in the greenhouse diminishes as well. What was a steady stream of volunteers has slowed to a trickle as the last of the terrariums are carefully tucked into place.
Nalin Sun is overseeing the final tally of plant samples with a representative from the Duvalian Botanical Society, and while you are reluctant to guess at the number -- it must be huge, judging from the overfilling of the shelves -- you can tell by the growing grin on his face that Nalin is quite pleased with the results.

My Specimen: Rainbow Yelper
Description & Observations: This is the rare Rainbow Yelper. It is a fascinating and very annoying plant. It's not called a "rainbow Yelper" for nothing. Like it names says, it yelps. Really, really loudly. None stop. And I ask you resist the urge to chop it's heads off, because it will just grow back those heads and additional two more. The only good thing about this plant though, is that it emits a very pretty smell which people like to make into perfume. Most just want to stomp and rip it up until it's dead though. That's why it's kinda very rare and have been relocated far, far away from civilization so no one has to hear it's dreaded cries. Only few who are insane enough to make perfume from them go to the little island they moved them to.

Description & Observations: The Corsil is a simple plant, hardly to be thought of as a flower at all. It is seen growing in various places throughout Duval, alone or in clusters, having no known preferred climate. It features an extensive root system, a single pale green stem, and instead of leaves, appendages more akin to tendrils which branch out in different directions seeming to grasp for something. Atop the plant are the bright green petals of its flower. On sunny days, once it has reached a certain stage in its growth, the petals part, revealing a round deep red center. After this single full bloom, commonly referred to as the "last breath", it closes up within a few hours and quickly withers. It is rumored that each plant carries with it the soul of a person that died in a battle waged many years ago. This flower is the person's last connection with the earthly realm, hence its many roots and curious tendrils. It patiently waits for a perfectly sunny day to open up, allowing the person to take its last breath and gaze of the sky before closing up and allowing the person to pass on and finally rest in peace.

Thank you, Nalin and the Staff!
Congratulations to all of the winners- every entry was really wonderful (I'd say lovely... but there was a dead chicken!). x3
Ah, thank you so much Nalin! I am flattered that my Ochu caught your eye. I also have to thank you for being a muse of sorts- ever since I had the pleasure of studying these three plants, I have been documenting the whole of the Ochuaceae family. It is quite the relaxing hobby.
Congratulations to all the other winners, as well, there were some real lovely and creative entries to this contest!
