So you want some s'mores but you don't have a campfire. What do you do?

I've taken to making s'mores in the microwave since I live in the city and don't have anywhere to roast some marshmallows. Does anyone else out there do this? How do you make your s'mores?

Why not just use the stove?

Well on the rare occasion I have all the necessary ingredients to make something like a smore I just use the microwave. It gets so messy though. *__*

@ Dystopia:That too. It doesn't work on elective stoves though... You can use the grill sometimes too, depending on what type of grill it is.

@ Wonderlands: Making s'mores is always messy business. >.>

I've made them both in the microwave and on the stove.

If you're going to put them in the microwave, what I usually do is take just the bottom graham cracker and the marshmallow and put it in for only a few seconds, then take it out and add the chocolate and the top graham cracker. I didn't attempt it but I'm pretty sure if you put the chocolate in the microwave it might just end up a terrifying sticky mess. xD

The stove works, too, though; you can easily just put the marshmallows over the flame and roast them that way.

This is random, but I found out this summer that my mother actually had never had a s'more and didn't know how to make them. How that is even possible, I don't even know.

@ Mika: That's how I do them when I put them in the microwave too. *Nod*

They aren't really a big thing in Australia so it's rarely done, haha. I need to go camping one day and do it legit with my friends.

You should! Real s'mores made over an open campfire under the stars are the best.

Take a road trip! Road tripping in America (I'm assuming you're from there, haha) sounds like fun.

I have a fire place in my basement as well as a fire pit in my backyard, and so much fire wood my dad gets cranky at us during winter and summer for not lighting more fires.... If I get a craving for s'mores I just light a fire in one of those.

I did find out a few weekends ago, that if you don't have proper chocolate bars, those gold foil 'dollar' shaped chocolates work really good... I had some left over from Easter and thought to give it a shot ^.^'

@ Wonderlands: I sold my car when I moved so I guess I'd have to rent one if I wanted to go on a road trip. I'm not one for long drives though... I'm too lazy and get stressed out easily in city traffic. My longest drive was from Long Island back to my home town in upstate New York. It wasn't really that fun. >_> Maybe it would have been better if I had a few friends to share the driving with but unfortunately I haven't met a lot of people since I moved.

@ Codette: Sounds like you have a really good setup!

I've only ever made them over a campfire. I never thought to make some in the microwave, but next time I have all the ingredients I'll give it a try.

I only do campfire or microwave. Campfire is the preferred choice, but you know.. Not always easy to get to one.

I've been craving s'mores lately! I was going to make them when I was visiting home this summer, but I didn't have time. I want to make them with my boyfriend since he's never had them before. Someday! Too bad boxes of graham crackers around here are like $4 a box.

OMG! Yes, you must feed him some. ^_^

Sometimes they have good sales on s'mores stuff in the summer but it's getting more towards fall now so I dunno if you'll find them any cheaper. V_V

I live in Japan. The only places that have graham crackers are import stores, which is why they're so expensive. But hey! At least I can find them.

Oh yes! How could I forget. T_T The same thing happened to me when I studied abroad in France. A box of Pop Tarts could only be bought in a special store and they were like 6 euros a box! Eeep!

We go camping once a year in the Andirondacks (Sp?) and there we have real campfire smors every night. If we crave it any other time we use the microwave. My step mom loves cooking the chocoalte while I like it not cooked. Guess everyone has their own ways~!
