Tothaza formerly a great beacon city of an empire, full of all races and peoples, but then came a great invasion by a terrible ruthless force, during this great battle a shadow fell upon the city trapping it it darkness, no one able to leave or enter. The survivors of the carnage now fight to survive, some squabbling over supplies, some have gone mad hunting people down, others have decided to find a way to escape, or protect those that are afraid and vulnerable.
You will be thrust into this den of madness and despair. And will have somehow survived the initial chaos.
Characters can be extremely varied, Tothaza is a melting pot of all types of peoples and creatures, humans, elves, vampires, warlocks, humanoid races all over Monaiya. It is up to you wether you struggle to find a way out of the city, if you do decide that you don't wish to die in the dark and cold, then you may want to find fellow people that wish to escape, or hunt down those that may have the metaphorical key.
Introduction story
The darkness was completely suffocating, the girl ran through the street, her bare feet slapping on the cold cobbled street, she held her dress up around her waist something was wrapped up within it. Behind her an amber glow grew closer and brighter she turned down winding lanes between building crumbling and burnt out, blackened timbers rising up from the debris like jagged teeth, still smouldering. Shadows moved swiftly in the darkness, wide eyes peered at her silently hiding. She ran breathlesly panick on her face, the glow drew closer still, angry voices followed it. The young girl turned another corner, her dirty blonde hair falling out from her grey grubby hood. Then her foot slipped in something wet and greasy, something that could just be made out in the gloom as red. She slipped sideways as her legs flew out from beneath her, and rolled scratching her elbows and knees, her dress flailing open, and the precious cargo that she carried so tightly, being strewn across the floor, apples and pears and other wormy rotten fruit rolled everywhere.
"No" she cried out and began to frantically gather up the food. The glow and noises were at the end of the lane now, faces grimacing in hate, men, women holding torches rushing towards her. The girl managed to somehow collect most of the fruit, and was about to stand but she looked up. Surrounding her those angry faces teeth barred, one maliciously smiling drawing closer and closer their faces taking on inhuman features in the flickering of the flames. The people around her snapped at each other like feral dogs, their filthy hands, and unkept nails reaching for her. She closed her eyes, and tried to remember the past, the grass, and even the wind. She could almost feel the heat of the suns warmth, warmer and warmer, and a light breeze on her hair, or was it the flames and someone behind her breathing on her neck? Hands grabbed at her.
Somewhere within the city, a blood curdling scream filled the air.
Tothaza the beacon city of Monaiya, now a prison...

The state of Monaiya, has been at war with an invading empire from across the endless ocean, the Karl's the people of Monaiya call them, they have attacked Monaiya for almost half a century now, slowly invading further and further in land pillaging more and more cities. The council of sorcerers that rule the state have struggled to repel the threats. The Karl's seemingly to come from different directions, have different tactics and weapons each time, some almost tribe like with wooden spears and skin shields, others fully armoured warriors on horseback, and even arriving in strange ships with smoke billowing from them, and using strange sticks that shoot flame and metal balls that tear through armour and skin. They appear to have no leadership, just the urge to attack and pillage the cities, rarely targeting the same place twice.
In each major city stands a tower, where the sorcerers direct their authority from, and practice their secretive and strange practices. The greatest of the towers lies within the centre of Tothaza, the greatest city of Monaiya, although not the capital city, it had become the most divers of all Monaiya, and was well known to be the place where the council were to going to defeat the Karl's once and for all. How they would do this was speculation, some people thought they were raising a great army, others a new weapon or magic to defend against the Karl's others thought a great warrior was waiting to lead them to victory.
None would probably find out the truth now... A week and three days ago the Karl's attacked, they must have landed on a deserted coastline, and made their way to Monaiya, although miles inland they had not been seen or detected by any council forces. They attacked the city, murdering burning and taking no prisoners. Eventually working their way into the centre of the city and almost into the tower. Just as they did darkness fell onto the city. The sky darkened almost blocking out all the light, a field of shadows had engulfed the entire city, nothing living could penetrate. The Karl's forces were cut in two, those outside and those inside. Object could be thrown through the strange wall but no creatures could make it. The council forces put up a valiant fight the first two days, but many citizens had changed with the appearance of the darkness, turning mad, attacking and killing with no meaning. Karl's, the council forces, and normal people found themselves fighting against former comrades and crazed people from within the city. Chaos soon reigned after this, food quickly ran low, mobs battling over scraps, and people hiding in the darkness from the crazed ones. The city began to burn, and unchecked the fires now give the most light to the cut off metropolis. The temples seemed somehow to be a haven from the crazed mobs, not being able to enter across the threshold, but not from the raidng Karl's or council forces looking for sanctuary or supplies. They burned like the rest. The last one standing is the temple to Prometheus, who in Monaiya is a god of empowerment, he gives second chances to those who need them, and gives retribution to those that deserve it.

As this is the first roleplay I have created on menewsha, if anyone wants to aid in set up that would be welcome.
Almost all races character types you can think of will be welcome, I'll decide if anything is too crazy, a robot from the future may push it too far perhaps.
All relationships will be cool
And importantly there IS an ending to this roleplay
I will consider gold to reward players that either stay until the end, an/or achieve a goal. And also to generally anyone who creates good posts or great characters.

Hmm, interesting concept! Very well worked out, would be hard for GM to keep things in line, but I'm sure you can do it.
And I'm also honored that you would think of me although we haven't directly RPed with each other, but I'm not sure if I'm able to take up on any more RPs. ): Since I play not just here, but on another site where my games are more active and I'm still a bit wary of group RPs.
BUT I will think about it, though, since I have one or two solid OCs that would be interesting to be thrown into this setting with certain adjustments.
This does sound like a fun, dark roleplay. That being said, if I join, I will probably use this character. Haven't come up with a name for him, but I think he would make a sweet character in this story. ^_^

I was on RP highwave some days ago, for example, and now can't muster any decent replies, since my life hit another low and I'm constantly tired. ._.; It will pass, but still. Group RPs are more difficult to manage for players than one on ones. But, yes, I definitely want to join.
Well, from the looks of it, this might be a small group roleplay. I'm currently in a small group RP where we take turns posting. It's slow moving but it's very easy to manage. Mayhaps that will be the course of this roleplay?
Either way, I totally get the feeling of not having time or not feeling up to post. I was in that rut for a while. So thankful I'm out of it! I just wish I knew what put me there so I could avoid it. O.o
I am usually on posting frenzy when I'm very interested in story and doing good or having awful time, but not tired so RP serves as stress relief. If I'm tired (mentally, especially), I don't have anything to say. I've been known to take months long breaks from one x one's, but my only plus side is that I don't mind if other person does, too, if only they tell me, like I do, and I prefer that they tell me if they don't like something in RP so we can talk it over and spice/fix the game up.
But, that's just me. Everyone's reasons are probably different, although some of the general ones still could be emotional state and interest level.
And about turns... Kinda, yeah, it's good, but I hate making multiple people wait on me. ): One person, we can solve it out, but many... Well, I should be going to sleep now, haha. So, we'll see how's my outlook on things in morning and perhaps later the day.
You sound just like me! My friend and I have interesting posting times. Sometimes it's every hour. Other times it's once every three months. It's however the cookie crumbles. But you're very right about roleplaying being a mental thing. I know when I'm frazzled and brain-fried, I like to just get away from writing and reading.
O.O True true. I've been known to "poof" magically for weeks at a time. I can see how that would put a damper on things. ^^; But yay, rest up! And who knows what tomorrow (or later today) might bring. :)
Hello! Yer I have to agree with you when it comes to your mood, although I am usually always up for posting, just the content and quality vary on my mood.
This rp I think wouldn't start until after crimbo, as everyone is so busy, so everyone's rps are shifting slowly, that's why I had time to write things up, as the rps I'm in are sluggish because everyone is busy with work and crimbo etc...
But will continue to add tit bits to it and teasers.
Have a good plan for it, it is based on an old rp I was involved in years ago! And mixed a few of my own ideas, and inspiration from a book or two, can't say to much (spoilers)
But do have possible endings in mind, depending on players actions.
And a small list of decent npc's , that people can play if they are up for playing with restraints.
There will be secret PMing in the game to warn you lol.
And finally want to reward gold for those that achieve their goals in the rp, for those spthat stick to the end p, and/ or escape. And for the best overall rper

I thought about it and figured I'd give this a try, add characters that for various reasons, can disappear for a while or just be taken out of the story without too much hassle.

The rewards sound super neat, maybe beside the best RPer cause that really depends on each viewer. For someone, simple one liner RPs are best, other want thousands of words per post and so on. xD But your game, your awards. I don't plan on joining for them, but for the rather compelling story.
Well as best rper overall, that would be up,to a general consensus. I'll put up some profiles soon, that people could on if they wished, may wet the appetites of some people? I will post rules and guidelines on proper ooc thread. I don't mind short posts at all, sometimes the story calls for them, I prefer quality over quantity. Sometimes you need a charater to just do or say something simple, and there is only so many ways you can describe "she jumped off the wall" without it seeming though you are just eaking things out. "She leapt from the edge of the glistening wall, with a Devine gracefulness and her knees gently recoiled as she landed softly, barely making a sound part from the gentle grinding of the gravel,beneath her feet"... Sometimes it just seems a bit silly and pointless. We know what someone jumping from a wall looks like? So,I really don't mind with regards to post length. But it is good to try to give the other characters something to reply to.
I don't know, I like quality over quantity, too, but in the end, one action only happens in super-fast-paced RPs usually. And, for me, details bring scene to life. Okay, maybe not describing how she landed (which isn't always a stone in the window, either, unless it adds to Mary Sueness, for example), but what about another quick glance around if anyone saw, or the person she's running from/with follows, drawing weapon if it is needed as enemies approach or where she heads from there. It's kinda hard to work with just 'she jumped off the wall', too, at times. But that you kind of mentioned...
