We now know the name of the new Sailor Moon series coming out this summer!
Here we can share what we know, rumours, merchendice, and all that kind of awesomeness.
Yes, even if I have a soft spot for Sailor Moon because it was my 'Gateway Anime' (DRUG). It was one of the first things I ever typed into a search engine when I finally got the internet in 1999. Before the New Doctor Who reboot catching my attention, I became an 'information junkie' about Sailor Moon and was even a forum moderator on sailormoon.org :)
My friends are all aflutter on facebook. I don't know if the art style is going to be as nice as the image, but it'll be good to see a version of Sailor Moon without all the filler(i.e. the Doom Tree arc, etc.)...
onsenmark: I don't see why it shouldn't be nice. I mean the original sailor moon anime was basically done in the "late 80's" style, that with very little exception didn't really grow much (I know there was a little bit of CG in the movies).
Anime these days is really slick and crisp looking in general. I also hope that it is a bit more mature/less filler. With the synopsis it seems that we are going to have yet another re-telling of the first season plot... (Already having the manga, the anime, and then PGSM's retelling). I must say that the thing I enjoyed the most about PGSM was giving more time and personality back to the Shitennou. As the counter-parts to the inner senshi, it was fun to see their dynamic and because it was so 'power rangers-esque' in general, THEY are the only reason I was able to keep watching it.
I will definitely be giving it a try. Sailor Moon was not my first anime, that honor went to one of the anime movies they used to play on the Sci Fi channel back in the day probably Project A-Ko. But all the same, I was obsessed with Sailor Moon when I was younger and it did pull me farther into anime than I'd been previously. I'm hoping that this reboot will be good.
I can't wait for this to come out. Sailor Moon was the first Anime I ever saw and I could only watch it at my Grandma's because we only had bunny ears on our TV.
I just finished reading the manga, which would have done sooner if each manga hadn't costed 50 bucks each. And I think I'm going to rewatch the first anime series before this comes out.
I'm excited I just hope it will be better. then the filler's they used before not have to use doom tree again. plus maybe we get to see Sailor Cosmos this time in Sailor Stars.
So, the eagerly anticipated reboot of the first season of the Sailor Moon anime is going to be released in July of this year. The new title will translate in English as "Sailor Moon Crystal" and rumors state that it will follow closer to the manga than the original anime and will also be likely to target original fans.
This could make or break a new age for this franchise.
I, for one, am looking forward to seeing the changes and development with the storyline and the characters. But I am a little worried that it might not be the grand re-awakening that fans are hoping for.
While I've heard a lot about sailor moon, I haven't read or watched it truly and if I had, alas I have forgotten but a new Sailor Moon series will be great! I'll at least try to watch this series

Well, the original anime was popular world-wide though the American dub had some terrible voice actors for the main character and they changed things like character names and the gender of some of the villains to make it more friendly for children. This new anime is due for a world wide release in July of this year and is supposedly going to be closer to the manga.
The promotional art that was released a few weeks ago is certainly beautiful.
I'm so excited for this. I'm not one of those "This was my very first anime" or "I watched this as a kid" but I watched the anime on YouTube and got 6 of the re-release volumes of the manga. And the picture... All I have to say is SO MUCH HAIR!!! I hope the new anime's art style is like the manga's. It's so pretty.
Yes, DIC completely butched the anime series with the american dub. It was terrible.
Look on the bright side, DIC ultimately decided to dub the actual anime instead of recreating it in a half live action, half animated monstrosity as seen here.
Something tells me, most of us would not have been even half as enamored with that version of Sailor Moon.
I am very much in camp 'my childhood...oh, the nostalgia!' and crossing my fingers for something truer to the manga...though I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I rather enjoyed the Doom Tree Arc...yeah, that's right, I said it. I enjoyed it, for whatever bizarre reason. Childhood me was all about that catchy as hell flute piece. So...yeah...
I grew up on Sailor Moon so I know where you're coming from Seridano!
From the look of the character designs, I'd say they're closer to the Manga. And maybe with Puella Magi Madoka Magica having been a huge hit, maybe they're hit on some of the intense scenes that happened in the manga...
...like how Princess Serenity commits suicide Romeo and Juliet style with the Sword of the Mystical Silver Crystal back in the Silver Millennium.

The only flute piece I can think of related to SM was that one from the SuperS movie. *is listening to it now*
