What I say to illogical idiots who question why I don't wax my legs

OH YEAH
Total pwnage ne! Just wish I came up with it in the first place.
Seriously though why is leg hair 'unladylike' or whatevs if leg hair grows naturally on ladies?!
Why should I wax if
1. It hurts
2. My leg hair will suddenly start sprouting a lot more if I wax
3. It's practically baby hair anyway. It's kawaii and downy. Or something.
I don't know. I just like it and want to keep it.

do you mean the hairs above or below your knee? :o most women don't shave/wax above the knee because the hair is indeed usually very fine and hard to see, and when your legs are exposed to sunlight they get lighter over time. (if you mean below your knee, then i am jealous~! teehee.)

shaving/waxing is a choice no matter where, though~ so you deserve to be unshaved and unashamed! whether or not a shaved leg is "hotter" is completely up to an individual, and really, shouldn't be a concern of anyone. shave for yourself~ not for anyone else's opinions. xD

that goes for you too, jchanofthecan. :3 if you want to shave your chest hair for women that's fine, but if it's making you upset, then let it go and be proud. nwn there are plenty of women out there who enjoy a nice hairy chest, hahaha!

that said, i shave almost everywhere, including above the knee every once in a while. i'm not very obsessive about it, but i do enjoy the feeling of being hairless, hahaha.

waxing does hurt though. x-x i get my face waxed sometimes, and if they put lotion on afterwards then i break out in horrific red bumps in those areas for like two days. i have them use alcohol when they're done!

Shaving my legs is a pain, so I don't shave during the winter. At all. I end up becoming a hairy mess in the springtime, and I am honestly more open about it than my mom. She freaks out if I wear a skirt and I don't shave but I'm not sure if my leg hair is kawaii, though. It's kind of gross-looking I can't imagine waxing my legs, or any part of my body, for that matter. I mean, the last time I waxed was when I was.. 13? My mom was teaching me how to wax with this weird gooey stuff she had gotten from a friend (it hardens on your leg so it is easier to take off) and she kept on pulling at my leg hair when the wax was still hardening. It was so painful, traumatizing enough for me to never even think about waxing my hair again

I don't really think anyone notices when you do or don't shave, though. Unless you wear shorts all the time or if the guy checking you out is a pervert and looking a little too hard

I have thick dark hair, and I don't shave any of it. *shrug* It's just a tedious chore that I hate doing and can't be bothered with, takes up too much of my time, wastes water, is expensive, etc. I'm not ashamed of my hair, but sometimes I feel self-conscious about it (because social pressure), so I usually wear clothes that cover it (knee socks, etc). But I figure, not shaving will ward off people who can't deal with body hair on women, which is fine because I probably can't deal with them either.

I think the current expectation for women to shave (just about everything) is relatively modern in history and mostly fueled by advertising and the shaving industry. (It would be interesting to study the history of beauty practices through history though, I've never done that.) Some argue that it is one of the ways that patriarchal systems exert control over women—by controlling their bodies, lowering self-esteem, encouragin competition between women, etc—and I think there is some truth to that. But it's also simply that exaggerated masculinity and femininity are considered attractive, and less hair on ladies is considered more feminine. *shrug* It's the same with makeup.

I guess I feel that shaving (or not shaving) should be like any other body choice: totally optional, and open to everyone. The only thing that bothers me about shaving is feeling like it's expected of me, or that I am less of a women (or person) if I don't do it.

I used to feel very opinionated, ornery, and defensive about this subject, but I've mostly let it go now. Not worth it to me to be mad about it.

I like my legs shaved any time of the year. >.> Soooo smooth! But then I have relatively fine leg hair as well. But it still gets pokey when it starts growing in. If I manage to get past the pokey part and into the soft and shimmery stage then it doesn't bother me as much.... except that it seems to accumulate static more. O.o

Hair is weird.

But when all is said and done, I like having shaved legs. My mother never shaved her legs. I see nothing wrong with either of those life style choices. Good on ya for sticking to what you like and not bowing to the pressures of society. Not everyone could do that. (: But then, some of us do it because we like the way it feels and not because society says we need to in the first place. Personal preference.

I have thick dark hair too and I really don't mind going unshaved for short periods of time. I guess I'm just too lazy to do anything about it. That would be really interesting, studying beauty trends in different parts of the world. I know that especially where my mom comes from (Bangladesh), shaving is practically unheard of there. I don't know if it is true or not, but in some countries in Europe, women don't shave at all. The image that I got after hearing that wasn't very pleasant, nonetheless...

I typically don't shave my legs during the winter (maybe once or twice), too much of a pain to do so, and typically only do it from early Spring to late Fall. I just don't see the point, unless it gets too much of an annoyance then I do it -- but i don't.

Yupperz, shaving or unshaving is fine as long as you're doing it cuz you want to not coz you're worried about what others will think
And there are no absolute ideas about beauty, they're different all over the world and they keep changing so someday several decades in the future or something, leg hair on ladiez might be a beauty statement!
I can kind of get how hair might be uncomfortable esp in hot weather. I'm lucky my hair doesn't bother me, it's my skin. It gets all flaky and itchy in winter and I have to moisturize twice a day
H'm and I'm talking about my hair both above and below my knee XD even the hair below my knee is pretty insubstantial so I don't think it's anything to bother about.

I think the only time I'll make a point to shave my legs is during the summer when I'm going to be in a swimsuit or shorts and around a bunch of people. I think I shaved like 2 or 3 times last years. You can't see or really feel the hair.

Which brings a memory to mind of how my mom used to tell me that I wasn't supposed to shave my legs or the hair would grow back all dark and coarse. Most of my teenage years and early twenties, I spent shaving on a regular basis. And guess what? It still don't look any darker or feel coarser.

It's a myth that hair grows back thicker and darker. It doesn't it's because the hair was cut and no longer has a pointed end which gives the illusion of it being thicker and as for it seeming darker that's because you're seeing it against your natural skin colour for the first time since you shave.

Hair removal can be traced back to the Romans. Roman ladies used to have their under arm hair plucked while using the public baths.

I tend to use hair removal cream 3 minutes and it done. Then my trousers stick to my legs with the static from them. It feels weird.

Don't get me started on the latest trend of dying your under arm hair. Nope.

I don't get the dying your armpit hair trend either. *shakes head*

And yeah, I knew that. But was one of those things you couldn't tell my mom.

When I was on the swim team, the season overlapped with homecoming and all that jazz. I would see girls that bleached their leg hair (you weren't allowed to shave during the season. Apparently it drags you down enough so that when you do shave your legs, you swim faster ) and it looked pretty bad. Not only was their hair bleached, but their skin would be really red and sensitive to the touch and it was really hard for them to swim afterwards. I didn't really care much for that practice because I never actually went to homecoming anyway , but I've heard of people bleaching their unwanted hair, not dying it >3<

Isn't under-arm skin like really sensitive

I imagine that if your underarms aren't too sensitive, it wouldn't be so bad. But there's no way I'd want to try it.

The whole underarm hair dying thing is one of the latest white-feminist fads going around that trans and POC have done before (but, no one really talked about it then). It's supposed to be all cute and empowering, but I'm fairly indifferent to the practice myself.

As for shaving - I find it very therapeutic myself and really enjoy the softness of my skin afterwards. I shave my legs and arms completely. I applaud girls that shave their pubic hair though. That just has so much potential to go wrong (as I've learned from experience). The itch it not worth it, it doesn't even get all smooth - just bumpy and irritated! Let the bush grow I say. Ahha.

I've never shaved, never cared. But mainly because I never wear anything about my ankles when there are guests/I'm outside I guess it doesn't matter, it's your hair anyway, let other people feel itchy and disgusting if they want to, who cares

But the 'dying underarm hair ' trend which I've never heard of sounds...funny

I've never heard of this underarm dying trend either. Not the fashion for me, I think. But as always, don't have a problem with other people doing it.
