VELATERAPIA ! Basically twisting your hair and burning off your split ends with a candle (open flame)....Or letting your hairdresser do it.
It's making a comeback....Again.
It apparently not only burns off your split ends and "quaterizes" them but it opens up your hair folicles making them more receptive to condioner.
Personally I'd rather not purposly set fire to my hair and get it full of wax.
Buzzfeed article on it here.
What do you make of it ?

I don' t think that would work on my hair.
My hair would probably catch fire and I'd have to get sprayed with those hoses from those little red things on the side of the street?

That's called a hydrant, bud. And sometimes they're yellow or blue or probably any other color. Thanks for the mental image.

I hate the smell of burning hair. I definitely wouldn't do something like that to my hair!

Oh yeah, cannot forget that burning hair smell if you're considering doing this. XD
Sounds like a terrible idea.

I have never heard of this, but it kind of makes sense to me. I might try it. I would do it in really small sections at a time to avoid catching my entire head on fire. It would be similar to burning a string off your shirt. So, it may take a long time if you have a lot of splint ends. I don't think I have split ends, though. My hair is very healthy. The smell would probably get to me, though.
Side note related to earlier comments: My in-laws have a fire hydrant in their yard, and my mother-in-law paints it to match their house. I'm pretty sure that's probably illegal, but no one confronts my mother-in-law. Small, old Korean women are fierce.

It isn't? Everyone I know does it when they have a loose string. It keeps it from continuing to fray.

As I am a cigarette smoker, I have burned many a thread off my clothes with the burning end of the cigarette...
My BF just lights the lighter and the thread vanishes!
The burning of the thread often causes a little "nub" at the end of the thread, preventing the sewed area from coming undone....much like a knot.
When I was a teen, the town I lived in got an idea to beautify the city by allowing people to paint the fire hydrants....
Some were psychedelic, and some were beautiful....and some looked like little children with a fireman's coat on.
I remember seeing some that looked like animals and others that looked like gnomes.
Then the idea got old and they painted all the hydrants yellow.
Imagine thinking that ya backed into a little kid, only to find that it was a water hydrant! Lol!
The smell of burning hair, alone, would prevent me from trimming my hair with a flame! ...that smell gets into my nose and lingers for hours, making food taste awful!

I would never do that! I would be devastated if my whole head of hair went up in flames. I don't think people realize that hair is super flammable and how fast fire really burns the hair... I've got the willies just thinking of my hair of fire.
