I only access this site with my phone...and I haven't had any suspicious pop-ups...it might be different for a computer.
I spend so little time here that I rarely visit anybody's page... I make a few comments, if I'm lucky, before being dragged back to RL...
I'm not anti-social on purpose....I just don't have much time to devote to Menewsha at this time in my life.
I do hope you get more than 2 comments on this thread!

Hi there, Goddess. There's no indication that this is a widespread thing at the moment, and the listening to your description of the modus operandi, I think it's more likely to be on your end in any case. Do you have any security software installed on your computer that you could run? I think that would be a good first step, and even if it doesn't solve the situation, it couldn't hurt So that would be my advice. Let me know what happens, and if it's still a problem, we'll go from there.

I had a similar experience a month, maybe two months ago but not while on Mene, I haven't even been here since around April/May and being on a Macbook I am not required to take action as they pretty much self-disinfect though I also have a Mac defense software called Avast.
If you are on a PC I recommend scanning your system with Malwarebytes if you are concerned that you're infected. It came recommended to me while I was still on my Acer laptop by my stepfather who is a professional in IT and I've found it very reliable.
If you are infected with something, however, it's pretty firmly established that Mene is NOT the source as no other users have seen this pop-up while here. My experience can also back this up, I received such a pop-up while accessing addic7ed.com, a TV subtitle website.
I'd automatically assumed it was an ad as well, but then it did something I've never known an ad to do. Some kind of Mac defender website had opened accompanied by a series of three pop-ups that kept repeating in an endless loop when I'd click them away until I noticed a box in the last one that said "stop sending me further messages" or something to that effect. Ticking it worked to end it. There had been a female voice as well just as you report.
When I asked my stepfather about it that's when he told me that Macs self-disinfect, so I have no way of knowing if it was real though I believe my Avast did tell me it had blocked an infection, that's how it works.
I've stopped using Addic7ed just the same. Luckily it's not a website I need as I have other sources to serve its purpose.

Are you by any chance experiencing this with IE? The multiple windows opening virus seems to be common with IE and I recall having an incident of my own way back in '04 when I was sharing a Dell laptop with my mother. Suddenly one window after the other rapidly opened, it got to 80 before I was forced to shut down using the power button. Not too long after that I couldn't ever get IE to open on my Windows account again so had to switch to Netscape (I hadn't heard of Firefox yet).
Unfortunately Malwarebytes was removed from my Acer when I upgraded it to Windows 10, it seems Windows 10 doesn't support it but when I get a chance I am totally going to try putting it back.

There is no need to use the Windows store, you can still just download it from the website. I very much recommend Chrome, it's what I use and have experienced few issues with it on both my laptops whereas Firefox's quality has reduced over the years to the point of having constant non-responsive and crashing issues.

I also recommend Google Chrome, especially for really great accessibility add-ons. I have things for other websites to block words or posts that can trigger anxiety in me! I also recommend MalwareBytes, as well as AVG anti-virus software. Both of them are free programs and they work very well together!

I have Windows 10. It doesn't "harm" your computer, it's just Windows, but it does have some default settings that sort of spy on you in an uncomfortable way. You can turn those off. Here's a helpful article that details what those settings are and how to find them to turn them off. Of course, any time you get a new piece of software, it's good to go through all the settings and make sure they're set to your liking.

I've updated my Acer to Windows 10, yes, but, unfortunately, there have been issues with it, I'd been told it was user-wide but perhaps my laptop, in particular, is too old to handle it well. Now it typically requires a full system restore to start up. Which isn't the most obstructive problem believe it or not though that might just be because it's not my primary laptop.
I'll have to look into those settings now as well, thanks Cherry Who?

When the pop-ups come up, is there little text under each one that is hard to see? You can do a quick search on your computer with the "keywords" the ad displays and maybe find the extension/app/program that is doing it and remove it with some type of anti-virus or something. Also, I haven't been on Menewsha in a while. xD
