This play is actually a Korean story thing but for English me a my friend edited it a bit and made it into a play. Do you like it?
Bury Me
Introduction
[The scene is set out in a big dark cave near a wide river. A baby bear and a mother bear are having fish for breakfast.]
Narrator: William the bear was a very naughty bear. He never listened to his mother.
Mother Bear: William, will you please get me some water from the river? I’m really thirsty after eating and catching all those fish.
William: Yes, Mama.
Narrator: But William never listened to what his mother said. He was extremely disobedient.
Complication - Act 1
[William is walking back with an empty bucket to the cave. His mother was waiting patiently for him.]
William: I’m back, Mama!
[William’s mother looks up to find her son came back with an empty bucket.]
Mother Bear: William, where is the water? Don’t tell me you went to the river and did nothing!
William: No Mama, I fetched the water as you asked! [Feeling nervous] But then I drank I all. [Smiling cautiously]
Mother Bear: Oh no! Not again William!
[Sighing, Mother Bear walked out of the cave carrying the empty bucket heading towards the river.]
Act 2
[Mother Bear is walking back into the cave with a full bucket of water.]
Mother Bear: William… William! [William peeks in through the corner of the cave.] There you are! Could you please do me a favour dear please? I need to go outside, so could you please place this bucket of water on the right side of my bed? I’ll have a drink out of it after a quick nap. [William nodded.] Thank you.
Narrator: But William didn’t listen. He placed the bucket of water a bit to the left, right on top of his mother’s pillow!
[Still in the cave, but Mother Bear is walking towards her bed and William is nowhere to be seen.]
Mother Bear: [Walking towards her bed and saw the bucket of water on her pillow.] William!
Narrator: Mother Bear ended up moving the bucket of water off the pillow.
Mother Bear: William, Mama is getting very tired and she would like a quick nap and she was hoping if you would be a good bear and go outside to play. If you want to stay inside, make sure you don’t make a lot of noise alright?
[William nods and trots off to the kitchen.]
Act 3
[The scene is set in a kitchen with many piles of pots and pans.]
Narrator: William didn’t want to go outside, but he had forgotten about what his mother had said about staying quiet. So William went into the kitchen and mucked and roamed about. Then all of a sudden, as he was sliding across the floor, he crashed dramatically into a pile of pots and pans.
[A loud crashing noise like someone collided into a heap of pots and pans. William is sitting in the middle of a puddle of pots and pans.]
Act 4
[Mother Bear is sleeping in her bed. In the distance you can hear an echo of falling pots and pans.]
Mother Bear: [Slowly sits up and yawns.] William what did you do this time. [Seeing the pile of pots and pans she yells.] William, you naughty bear! Go outside right now.
Narrator: Naturally, William didn’t listen and lingered behind in the house.
Resolution - Act 5
[The scene is set in a forest in Autumn. Brown leaves have fallen onto the ground creating a carpet of autumn leaves.]
Narrator: A couple of seasons had passed. The time may have changed but William certainly didn’t. In fact William was stressing his mother greatly, more and more wearier every day. She couldn’t stand the disobedience of her son. She had to do all the housework by herself with no help from with her son. One day, when she was coming home to cook breakfast with the fresh fish she had just caught, she fainted. Mother Bear fell straight to the floor from the stress. Luckily, William was nearby at the time. He was trying to climb a tree like a cat.
When he just nearly reached the end of a branch, he saw his mother lying on the floor with her eyes closed.
William: Mama! Wake up! Please Wake up! You’re scaring me! Please don’t go!
Narrator: Mother Bear knew she was dying. Her final and dying wish was to stand by her son’s side at all times, dead or alive. She knew William would do the opposite of everything she said so she…
Mother Bear: [Opens eyes so they are just slits.] William, will you do one last thing for me for your old Mama? Bury me in a far away place, like in the river perhaps. Throw my body into the river and watch it sink. [She slowly closes her eyes. William is sobbing]
Narrator: For once, William did what he mother told him to do, truly believing it was her last and dying wish. He carried his mother’s body to the river and threw it into the river. Crying with the sky, he watched his mother’s body float further and further away from him…
