Chapter One
Cairo, Egypt… 1984
The winds died down after an hour of standing there on the hot desert sand. Michael stood silently while a bunch of men and few women stood arguing about religion. The only one who seemed more at peace then Michael was a young monk that seemed to be no older then 25 or so. He kind of smiled nicely to the monk who looked at him with a calm smile and walked over. With a small breath he stated, “I think they are blasting the Catholic faith. Don’t you want to defend it?”
His questioned was one the Priest thought about before responding. “I would defend myself but what is the point? Something tells me no matter what I say they would defiantly disagree. That is the way of this world and we just have to learn to pick are arguments. At this moment I don’t think that an argument with them is the right thing to do.”
The Buddhist looked in amazement at the man and kindly gave his name, “My name is An.”
“My named is Father Michael but you can refer to me as just Michael or even Mike but don’t tell that to the Vatican.” He smiled and slightly laughed. The Buddhist was confused for a moment but realizing the orthodox view of the church he quickly laughed with the Priest. Boy was it an odd combination to see a Priest and a Buddhist laughing together.
They both waited talking about the event at hand. He was wondering if any of them knew who M was and whether or not they met Merlin. He sighed and did not want to really ask anyone not even An, who seemed to be open enough to chat about it. The Priest stared out into the hot dessert landscape plotting on whether this waiting was worth his health. He looked at An who seemed to be in the same boat as he. Before he was about to talk about leaving he felt a disturbance and a loud thunder like sound in the distance. He looked out to see a cloud of sand and what seem to be sparkles flying towards them. As the sand storm got close he saw a large black 12-legged horse that seemed to be double the size of a stallion. Everyone stop arguing once the sight was seen and they noticed a man riding the mythical horse carrying what seem to be a child. He wore a long black cloak that covered his body but it shimmered in the sun with sparkles of gold and silver. It was an amazing scene and what made it more amazing was in the sky.
“A dragon?” Michael said as if it was a question more then a statement. His eyes stared in disbelief but at the same time curiosity. It was nothing like he could imagine but was this what they were waiting for? The dragon came closer and it size was larger then the black 12 legged horse. The massive wingspan was nearly 25 feet and his body length appeared to be little over 20 feet. Its face was bird like with a yellow beak but its eyes were like a snake that were yellow and glowed madly when the sun reflected on them. Its entire neck was similar to a snake and its head weaved like one as well. It scales were an iridescent blue from both head to tale. Its wings were like heavy duty bat wings that expanded as it glided in the air. It was an amazing site to be seen and shocking enough no one seems to fear it.
The 12-legged black horse stop before them as the cloak figured jumped off the horse with the bundle in his arms. He held it gently and he removed slowly the cloak from his body keeping the child safely bundled in a black and silver cloth. The man stood nearly 7 feet tale with shoulder length hair that at first appeared to be black but as he combed his fingers through his hair you saw streaks of gold and silver that shown brightly in the afternoon sun. His eyes were sparkling with years of wisdom and if you looked closely at them you saw the universe inside his eyes. It was as if he was not human but at the same time looked and even felt human. Michael’s eyes knew this man was Merlin and it seemed everyone recognized him as well. An gently nodded at him and Merlin turned and faced his friend and did the same.
“So my old friend this is the child you spoke of in your letter?” An said with a small question in his words. Merlin nodded as the blue dragon landed behind him next to the giant horse. It seemed the dragon was on friendly terms and seems to pose no harm with anyone. Which was a good thing for Michael who feared the dragon.
Finally after moments of silence and curiosity Merlin spoke in a voice that seemed all too powerful. He seemed different then the day Michael met Merlin at the years when he traveled to different places meeting different Priest from around the world. It was Merlin that put question to his faith but it was also Merlin who told him to stay in the Priesthood. He never doubted Merlin and even know after seeing him maybe the legendary Arthurian legend come to life he slightly took note at the all signs from the past he totally deluded himself in thinking was normal.
“My dear friends.” He spoke a loud in a vivid of color and of imagination. “I have chosen all of you from your respected beliefs to witness a new age of thought and mysticism like you have never heard before. It is the truth that your race has been searching for and I am gladly fond of telling you all this wonderful truth I held to myself all these years from you. This child I hold before you is a child that holds great power and holds the destiny of your people. I will not go into great length at the moment of her powers or what is truly going on but I will tell you this that everything you ever believed in will be twisted in ways you never ever dreamed of. There is a God my friends but more then that there is a Goddess.” As he spoke those words the Wiccans and other Pagan folk that all seemed to say “I told you so.” But Merlin took no liking to the arrogant behavior and hushed them in a harsh words, “Please do not be arrogant or ignorant towards them. For your faith alone is not true either and what you believe in the ancient gods is nothing more then false misconceptions. You really are misleading yourself into thinking that your worships matters. They don’t and neither does any of yours. All of you have been deluding yourself from the truth for centuries and know it is the time for a new chance to the see the truth.” He sighed in anger but didn’t feel like indulging in any more games with these people.
“So what know Merlin?” Michael stated with an agitated look. “You told me to stay a priest and so I have and know after all this time you tell me what I lived was a lie.” Michael nearly cried out his words and Merlin felt ashamed at lashing out at them.
“It is not directly a lie but a truth covered in lies. Mankind is known to create and delude their beliefs with laws and legends that never happened. But do not fear not everything is a lie and over time you will understand but as of know I most give you a chance to claim this child as a child of man and raise her as such until I return to save her. I will hand her over to you Michael and An to find her a home and have her raised to be healthy. I will return on her second birthday in which I am only hoping to the goddess that she will be okay. Please take good care of her and I trust her with you.”
Father Michael held the child in his arms staring at her curious face. Her blue eyes shown brightly in the sunlight. She appeared angelic like and all he could think about was that everything he ever grew up believing will change with this one child. He knew Merlin was corrected and was glad he was apart of this. He would finally see something he was seeking for years to come and maybe just maybe take a look at the past and what really happened. His whole world was falling but a new one was beginning to rise. This child was the key to all that and more. He smiled down at her and looked at An who seem to have the same hopes and ambitions he did. The others appeared hopeless and confused but he only hoped that all of them will understand what is to come and feel the same enthusiasm he was feeling.
“A new chapter to an old book.” He whispered as he held the child in his arms.
