You know...there really aren't enough modern non-school roleplays here. Lets fix that. =3

Story
Los Angeles International Airport - LAX. One of the busiest airports in the world. Such a busy airport, in this day and age, has to have the best security there is. Well, they made a rather controversial move recently, and installed a brand new security system that runs through the entire airport. This new last resort system, when activated, locks down the entire airport. All electricity is cut off, except to the security system itself. Cell phone scramblers are activated, ensuring that all calls must go through ten phones hooked up to the security system, where every word is recorded and carefully monitored.

Of course, no one ever expected this system to actually be USED. It was only there in case something went REALLY wrong, and there was an obvious need to confine a group of suspects at any cost. Of course it wasn't likely, but airport officials felt it was better to be safe.

Well, for one reason or another, the alarm was tripped. No one seems to want to explain why. However, whatever it is, either the threat is REALLY bad, or something has malfunctioned and the lockdown can't be lifted. Or maybe it's both...

Rules

Bear with me, this list may look long at first, but you'll see that it's mostly explanation and clarification. For the most part, this should be common sense.

  • Follow Menewsha's TOS. I don't want to get my RP locked because you can't control yourself, got it?
  • Read and follow the guidelines of the AMP. Should go without saying, but I've noticed a few of you being a bit naughty...
  • Romance is allowed. Not encouraged, but not discouraged either. The way it works here is that if it happens, it happens. However, just because there are lots of nice dark places, don't think this means I'm gonna let you get away with cybering in my thread. If you're set on it, do it OUTSIDE of Mene and just do a curtain-over effect here.
  • PG-13 violence is allowed; small fights are fine. Encouraged, actually - the stress is likely to make us pretty crazy. ;) Just don't expect it to get too big without a nice little interruption from security. We ARE in an airport, under terror lockdown.
  • If you wish to play security staff, you must keep in private contact with me. The reason for this is that security staff has a lot of control over what may happen. Remember, this is my RP. You can create events if you want, but don't try to hijack me (no pun intended).
  • You are not the reason the alarm was tripped. End of story. However, if you wish to play a bad guy who was caught by accident, awesome. Go for it. Just be careful with it - I don't want ANYONE getting in trouble for this.
  • Please be at least semi-literate. Third person, past tense, story format is generally preferred. First person is fine too, but PLEASE, for the love of Agate, do not chatspeak or use ** or -- for actions. It's not fun to read, and longer posts earn you more gold anyway.
  • Don't take it personally if another character doesn't like your character. It means nothing about you or the person playing the other character, it just means your characters don't like each other...and in a situation like this, it's bound to happen.
  • Remember, this is the real world. Not fantasy. Supernatural powers are NOT allowed. The sole exception is if someone supposedly has some supernatural power but cannot use it in a way where it is absolutely undeniably real (e.g., real-world "psychics").
  • Using images you found on the internet, unless you have permission to use them, is absolutely not allowed. I check on this kind of thing. I will tell you now, I HAVE, more than once, reported people for this act and had the offending images forceably removed by the moderators, on various sites. I'm not afraid to do it again. So PLEASE, for your sake and mine, do not use an image you have not obtained implicit or explicit permission to use. And no, being on Photobucket/Imageshack/what-have-you does not count as implicit permission.
  • PM me your profiles! I'll be lenient for now, as we haven't started yet, but when we get going, please, please, PLEASE do NOT post your profiles in this thread.
  • Finally, have fun!

Bio: Full profile coming soon - for now, refer to this journal.
Personality: Depending on what mood you catch him in, you just might think he has ADHD. For the most part, he's wild, silly, a bit of a joker...but knows when to stop. Occasionally grows a bit depressed/angsty, though...but he tries to shake this as quickly as possible, as he knows it's not only self-destructive, but gets annoying. He absolutely loves music, and is rarely seen without an mp3 player.
Reason for being at the airport: Returning from a week long visit to his old home. His English is not at its best right now.
Traveling with: è—€ćŽŸ 琄珀 (Kohaku Fujiwara) (his father)
Inventory: In his pockets, Hideto is carrying his mp3 player, wallet, and a few packets of peanuts. He also has a fountain pen, clipped in an upright position to avoid leakage. Somewhere in the pile of luggage, he has an acoustic guitar in a case and a suitcase full of clothes and souvenirs from the trip. He had a pocketknife in a separate bag (with more clothes), but when the alarm was tripped, it was confiscated by security staff.
Other: If you read the journal containing his bio...obviously, I'm using the "normal" version of him.

Age: Twenty-Three
Appearance: Standing at precisely six foot one, Léonide can be seen in ballet flats, a simplistic knee-high pencil skirt with a lavender floral print, and a turtle-neck-lined blouse the color of of a true violet. Eyes of an abnormal hazel - converting from gray one minute, to brown, and then to green - are spaced evenly to either side of a piercing, defined French nose. Lips of elegance and introversion seem to almost pout, behind a pallid rose shade of lipstick - the only visible trace of any form of makeup. Léonide's hair is curled flamboyantly, a true, natural red. Her ordinary handbag is of canvas material, brown in shade, and with a wooden handle. Her skin is definitely paler than one would expect from someone within San Francisco.
Bio: Léonide has a dainty history; her father was a door-to-door repairman for sewing machines specifically, and her mother a seamstress herself. Profit was small, but they managed to get by. Her older sister, Cyrille-Aurelie, was an esteemed hostess at the local bistro; from the time Léonide was four, she'd taken up ballet.
Her fame as a ballet dancer rose up beyond her sister's practically-impassable occupation as a hostess. She took her family on her travels across the world, until she was called for a rehearsal for Cirque du Soleil in San Francisco. Merely taking Cyrille with her, she found herself easily angered by the presence of her elder sibling.
Their relationship was much strained, and the envy was evident; but not once did Léonide burst out and explain that she knew. Not once did the strain bend - but she still felt obligated for Cyrille to tag along, and at least be flattered by the many crew members as her plainer sister auditioned for the elite troupe.
Needless to say, Léonide hadn't managed to get into Cirque du Soleil and the sisters were headed back to their United States residence in Philadelphia when the airport went into what seemed to be apocalyptic mode.
Personality: Rather sympathetic and emotional, Léonide can easily be described as immature; she has never been in a relationship, regardless of whether or not it was valid, due to her cramped schedule. She has a tendency to worry too much over trivial things, and has been placed into a rather irritable, self-doubting mood since her ignorant, shameful denial from Cirque du Soleil. Easily put, she's supremely eager to just return home and work harder. Her mood is in no way proper for an airport lock-down.
Reason for being at the airport: As previously stated, she's on her way home from her tryouts for Cirque du Soleil.
Traveling with: Cyrille-Aurelie Blais, her older sister; Cyrille is a more classy dresser, and has the same features as Léonide, only they're more flattering and ornate on her.
Inventory: Vicodin - the narcotic - to help her sleep. She has some sleep disorder or other, and is thus susceptible to sleepless nights if she doesn't take the proper dosage of Vicodin. Other than that, her purse contains a compact mirror, chapstick, a dead cell phone, and two packs of Juicy Fruit gum. Her suitcase is a defined purple, striped with cream. It should be fairly obviously that Léonide's favorite color is purple. Within the suitcase is two changes of clothes - one a casual outfit of beige pants and a tunic blouse with a flowing design of irises intertwined with violets; also, a vivid green sun dress. Wrapped in bubble wrap is a small porcelain doll that she's possessed since she was born. It's worn, to put it blatantly, and its intricate, painted-on face is wearing away harshly; the dress has seen extreme sun damage, and is a very light, almost untraceable lavender. Cyrille's luggage is merely a thickly-woven wicker satchel with rolled-up dresses and whatnot; nothing quite appealing.
Other: I love this plot very much, and look forward to roleplaying. :3

Appearance: She has medium length black hair down a bit past her shoulders, and dark brown- nearly but not quite black eyes. Her style in fashion is generally dark. She wears dark clothing, and dark makeup. She doesn't really consider herself gothic, but others tend to disagree. She's also fairly fit, not twig thin, but not chubby either. She's around 5'8.
Bio:Marina grew up in a typical white trash family. Living in a trailor park, surrounded by rude freakish people really toughened her up, but also made her become a rude bitch herself. Her parents were druggies, and alcoholics, and she often got yelled at and picked on by them. She is an only child, but was never EVER spoiled like one. She had two other friends. They drank, smoked and other such things. One day, her parents decided to ship her off to a rather cheap boarding school, much to her outrage. It was at a stop heading to her boarding school that she got stuck in the airport.
Personality: She's a witch, to be blunt. She likes causing others pain (mental, and physical) and just plain being bad. She's never really had true friends, and she thinks she doesn't need them. Suggest she needs anger management, you'll probably find yourself hurting.
Reason for being at the airport: Just stopping on the way to her boarding school Traveling with: No one
Inventory: Just whatever she can fit in the pockets of her jeans, spare money, gum, etc. The only things in her luggage is her clothes and toiletries. Other: Marina is actually a character from an X-men evolution roleplay, so as you can imagine, this version of her is quite edited. She was a byotch in the X-men RPG, but she has changed a lot there...I decided to revert her to her old ways in this RPG, just because I like playing mean characters. I'm gonna keep hints and stuff about the plot here. Here's number one:

The idea of this may seem a bit out there and touchy at first, but I can assure you, it won't go "there." I'll make sure of it. ;)

And just for a little security (no pun intended), what really happened: (highlight if you want to be spoiled)
The alarm was tripped by accident. There is no threat. Someone upstairs, however, has grown too damn paranoid to deactivate it...that, and no one knows how. Um...oops. >.>;

Hideto stood by the luggage carousel, waiting for his bags to appear. He sighed sadly as his guitar case appeared, muttering to himself about how he wished he could have stayed. Suddenly, the luggage carousel lost power and the lights went out. The sound of metal curtains dropping filled the room. His heart began to race as the screams of panicked passengers filled the area.

"Nani o --?" he muttered, clearly just as confused as everyone else. After a moment, a man came through, speaking into a megaphone.

"Everyone, please remain calm! There is no cause for alarm, I repeat, no cause for alarm! We've run into some issues, and we should have everything sorted out within a few minutes. Thank you for your patience."

Hideto worked his way through the crowd to get to the man, making it obvious that he wasn't used to being back in an English-speaking country, muttering "gomen!" and "sumimasen!" every time he so much as brushed up against someone.

Marina had been on her way to the luggage line when the lights when out, and the lights went out, and the sound of metal falling filled the room, along with the frightened sound of passengers of all nationalities filled the room.

She groaned. She was already in a sour mood, and the mutterings and yellings wasn't helping her mood, not to mention having someone from God knew where bump into you shouting 'Gomen!'

After the announcement over the Megaphone, Marina took it upon herself to 'help' the frightened by shouting "Yes, don't worry! I'm sure it is just a case of someone saying the word Bomb in the airport, they'll be strip searching him as we speak!"

As she finished, she proceeded to try and make her way to the luggage carousel. Slowly.

Rough interference sounded as the line went dead. Léonide glanced at her unreliable cell phone angrily, gripping her purse in frustration. Right then, her phone had died; she glared at her sister, who stood beside her. "Well, looks like mother and father will have to--" Her sentence didn't reach its finish as the lights went out, without even the slightest warning.

Outbreaks of all kinds - from screeches of general horror, to shrieks of agony or unbelievability, made their way to Léonide's ear in some form or other.

Caressing the hand that grabbed for her, she soothingly spoke in the tiniest voice - for she herself was frightened to the point of being dumb-stricken and senseless.

"It's okay, we'll be okay," she whispered with her thick French accent. But the reply she received was less than disheartening.

"Speak American, lady!"

Léonide retreated, horrified. That wasn't Cyrille-Aurelie; not her Cyrille, anyway. Definitely not.

As the announcement boomed, she felt herself bump into something metallic. Someone cursed nearby, wincing. A silent apology, rapidly lost to the lack of light, issued from Léonide's hand motions. The words that the announcement had contained were lost before she could make sense of the fact that she should be searching for Cyrille. Frightened, she stood once more, and fastened her grip upon her handbag more steadily.

Staring at the departures board Lottie searched for her own flight. There were so many of them! She sighed and wished that she never had to look at another departures board for as long as she lived. Then the power went out. "Shit." She breathed, for a moment the thought that her wish had come true was bewildering, but the announcement cleared things up a bit. "Mom!" She called "We're going to miss the flight!"

The pessamistic moan of her mother was vaguely satisfying. She sighed and shouldered her bag, turning her light blue gaze to where her mother stood.

Hideto reached the area where the man was after a few minutes of working his way through the crowd. Listening to the conversations going on around him made him realize he had to speak English again.

"S...Sir! Um...excuse me!" he exclaimed, finding it a bit difficult to find the words after a week without speaking any English.

"What...what is happening?" he asked, the confusion obvious in his voice.

"We're not allowed to give any details on the matter at this time," the man replied. Hideto struggled for a moment to translate the man's words in his mind, then sighed annoyedly as he realized he hadn't been told anything. He groaned slightly as he turned and headed off to search for his father.

Lottie sighed and ran a hand through her long blonde hair "What do you suppose happened anyways?" She asked her mom, wishing she'd gone on the earlier flight with her skating partner, Marc.

Her mom shrugged "Not a clue, probably just a drill, you know what airports are like, always doing their best to make you late."

Marina let out a frustrated growl as- for the hundredth time- she crashed into someone in the dark. Sure, her eyes had adjusted, but there are only so much you could see even then. Luckily, the initial shock had died away to be left with just confused mutterings that blending into one large ocean of inaudible noise.

Pushing through people, she finally got to the luggage carousel and started searching for her suitcase.
As she was looking, she caught a particular conversation. It was the same person who had bumped into her and muttered 'gomen'. She looked in his direction to see him talking to someone.

She folded her arms and walked closer to the two, hearing him ask the man what was going on. When the man replied, Marina rolled her eyes. "Are you trying to be secretive about it, because you don't want to admit someone spilled coffee on the controls of the main computers, resulting in a total lockdown of the airport?" Asked Marina loudly, so the man could hear her.

((ACK! I suck at replying. D: I keep thinking I have when I haven't. >.<;))

"No, miss, it's just our policy not to disclose any security information unless we are told to do so," the man replied. A second man called him over to an empty area, and as he walked toward him, he could be faintly heard muttering under his breath "I hate my job..."

"Attention, please! If you are having difficulty finding other members of your party, please come to ticket counter number four, five, or six. Please do not panic. I repeat, there is no cause for alarm," the second man shouted into his own megaphone. "I repeat, if you are missing members of your party, please come to ticket counter four, five, or six, and we will allow you to make a call for them. Thank you."

Hideto's ears perked up. "Missing...party...yes!" he muttered as he began heading toward the ticket counters, listening as the names were called, hoping his father had made it to the ticket counter faster.

Lottie sighed "Well what do we do now?" She muttered, not really expecting a reply. Her fingers fiddled in her bag and she pulled out her MP3 player.

"I do hope you have the routines music on that thing." Her mother chided. A nod as Lottie placed the headphones over her ears.

Blair frowned to herself about the hole situation as she sat down in an empty chair and dropped her luggage next to her in an angry motion.

She then flipped her Cellphone open and tried to call her agent to inform her of the delay in her arrival. Unfortunately it seemed that she had no reception and muttered something under her breath in her native Russian about how useless her provider was.

Hideto let out a soft sigh as he waited for the line to move. "Isogi...ugekashite..." he groaned under his breath as he went fishing for his mp3 player in his pocket. As he looked at the display, he realized the battery was halfway dead...and with the power out, there was no way to recharge it. He figured it would probably be best to save it.

He struggled to remain patient as the line moved forward. Sighing boredly, he watched as the crowd shuffled around him. After about three minutes that felt like hours, he was finally given a chance to use one of the megaphones. He hesitated a moment before speaking, realizing that if he spoke in any language other than English, he'd probably be taken in for intense questioning. He thought for a moment, trying to remember the few words he needed.

"Fujiwara Kohaku, please come to ticket counter five?" His expression turned to one of moderate discomfort - he wasn't used to calling his father by name. As he waited for a response, he couldn't help but notice that he kept seeing the same few people over and over.

((I'm really sorry for not replying lately, I've been at my sisters for over a week D: ))

Marina rolled her eyes at the mans explanation and turned away, bumping and hitting many people with her luggage bags as she went to look for an empty seat.
Finally finding one, she sat down and massaged her temples. She was quickly getting a headache, and she just wanted to be out of the airport as soon as possible.

"Find the frickin' terrorist and let us get out of here!" She yelled, trying to be heard over the chatter of the rest of the people.
