Yeah. Sorry for posting lots. I do like for people to read my works. And this is my novel. Kinda novel, at least. I wrote it for National Novel Writing Month last November, and I didn't meet the 50k word goal. I did get almost 15k though. And it has a proper ending. >.< I just got bored of it. Anyways, I enjoy most of it, so I wishes to share. Tell me if you like it, 'kay? ~.^

Oh. And also, after the fourth chapter, I stopped breaking my story up into chapters, so I'm gonna have to subdivide as best as I can. ^^"

Oh. And it has bad language and hints at sex. So don't read it if you don't like those.

------------------------------

Chapter 1

Elizabeth sat in class, bored. It was her eighth period class and, joy of all joys, they had a substitute teacher. The teacher proceeded through roll call:

“Andros.”

“Here.”

“Arq-Art,” he paused momentarily, “someone named ‘Elizabeth’.”

“Here. And my name is pronounced “Arquette.” The substitute teacher nodded and proceeded with his call.

Elizabeth mused. This class was nominally a programming course, but she was fairly certain that the teacher knew naught of which he spoke, so she dazed off in class, or played with her Palm Pilot, or read, or wrote, or did anything other than listen to him lecture. Praise be to Darwin that he was not there that day.

But no, he just had to leave a movie about Bill Gates for them to take notes, didn’t he? Just her bloody luck, was it not?

While pretending to watch the movie – she did take nominal notes, at least – she gazed around her class room. It was just a normal room, full of normal, boring, stupid high school students. She was a senior, head of the school and all that junk. Huzzah. Just one more month until Thanksgiving Break, she though. Then one more until Christmas Break. Then they were out for a good couple of weeks! Then back in school for three months until Spring Break. And finally, that long, long stretch counting down to the final day of school and her, hopeful, graduation. Well, she figured she'd graduate. She was passing all her classes at the very least. And she was in Advanced Placement courses or Honors classes! So all was even better, wasn't it?

She just wished that something interesting was going to happen. That is all. She did not want much more. A little something to spice up her life; add variety to it. Lucky her! She was going to get everything she wanted and even a little bit more.

Just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day; it was Friday, as well, so the weekend was another promise laid in front of the students. For Elizabeth, though, the weekend was little special. At least she didn't have to go to school. That was something good.

But the bell had rung, yes? Good. She stood up and collected her books and made her way to the door. Along the way, she bumped into a multiplicity of people, but nobody said "excuse me" or anything nice like that. Not only that, but the guy at the locker next to her didn't close his door enough to allow her to get to her locker. Elizabeth was fuming mad by the time she had gotten to her normal meeting spot with her friends.

"Hey guys!" she said somewhat cheerfully. "So how have your days been?"

Nobody noticed her. She tried again; a little louder. "Hello! How are you?" her voice was more forced this time. Still no one noticed her. She then attempted to playfully hit a friend. Her friend totally did not respond at all.

Elizabeth hummed a little, paused some more, and wondered why nobody had been paying any attention to her. For that matter, she could hear her friend's conversation, and they weren't mentioning her, even though she was always there on time every day. Hell, she usually got there over a minute before any other person. It was time to pause and consider and definitely not spaz out. Really, she should not spaz out. That was seriously a bad idea at the time. Of course, she had to, just a little bit. Maybe more than a little bit. Maybe she was in hysterics for a good five minutes, but nobody has to know that, do they?

Eventually she calmed down. Elizabeth, get a hold of yourself, she thought. She then grabbed her arm, and then hit herself at the bad joke. So nobody can notice that you are there. That is not so bad, is it? Right? I mean, lots of people are not noticed by people, I guess. Like Goths, right!? Goths don't get noticed, do they? Wait, no, they do. Because damn do they stick out. Nerds maybe? Nah. Everybody knows who the nerds in a class are. But seriously! Why isn't anybody paying attention to me?

She had reached just about this point in her inner monologue before she was interrupted by the patter of feet coming down a mostly empty hall, followed by a body bumping into her.

"Hey. Sorry. Excuse me," the person said before hurrying off.

"Wait a minute! Wait! Can you hear me? Please! Slow down! Pretty please?" Elizabeth said whilst quickly running after the mysterious person. It was mere moments before she had caught up with him. Well, it could have been a her, in which case that would have been the masculine dominance inherent in the English language (and most other Latin-based languages) showing through. Damn, English needs a good, gender neutral, third person singular pronoun that is actually referring to a person and not a thing. Right. She caught up with him.

Him ended up being a young man, somewhere around her own age of about eighteen. He had an average build, she could not tell his height without a point of reference; no, he was a good half head taller than she was. His hair was cut to just above his ears and green. His eyes were, she could not tell from this far away. What was that about his hair? The guy had green hair? Weird. But people do dye their hair weird colors, do they not? Indeed they do, she agreed with herself.

The guy stopped abruptly and she banged into him.

"Who are you?" asked the guy roughly.

"Ah… some call me Tim. Wait no. Sorry. I watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail last night. My name is Elizabeth. That is, Elizabeth Arquette."

"Monty Python and the Holy Grail? I used to love that. Oh. So you are from around here, are you not?"

Elizabeth was confused. "Yeah. I guess so. I mean, I grew up around this area… I do not believe that I know what you are talking about," she finally conceded.

"No talking. I will explain later," the guy said. He started to move for a short time, then stopped abruptly once more. "You are not supposed to be here," he declared, breaking his own rule.

"No. I'm pretty sure that I am. I am, this is my own school, I think…" the last words came out slowly as she looked around to see that the formerly familiar hallways had been replaced while she was not paying attention with nothing. That was all. They were standing in a large black expanse, with only the mildest amount of illumination so that she could determine the features of the young man and little more. "Ah, so where are we then?"

"Some place else," he said, then started walking again, this time at something less than the almost jogging pace he had been moving at prior to that time. "May I ask you something?"

"You just did," Elizabeth interrupted, not able to help herself. The boy ignored her.

"Shortly before you met me, did you find that people could not," he paused, searching for words, "see you?" he said finally.

"Yeah! My friends did not feel me even when I hit them. And there were loads of people bumping into me all over the place!"

"Odd," the young man said. He appeared to be thinking about something, so Elizabeth did not say anything until next he spoke.

"My name is Sylv," he said. "I believe that you may be in a similar situation as to one that I was in once and I believe that I may be able to aid you. At least you do not appear to have one… complication that occurred with me." He did not elaborate on the point, and Elizabeth did not feel the desire to press him. "Would you care to journey with me? I am afraid that you may not be able to return to your normal life for quite some time. You may never be capable of returning without my aid. It is quite likely that you would die on your own, actually." Sylv shook his head rapidly. "It is not as though I am threatening you. I apologize if it seemed as though I was speaking in that manner. It is merely that there is something happening that would be difficult for you to, frankly, survive in."

Elizabeth ignored Sylv's almost rambling and came to some quick mental conclusions. This was a chance for an adventure, with a very cute guy, hm, yep, she thought, all else was drowned out by the latter factor.

"Sure. I'll go with you!" she said cheerfully.

---------------------------------------------

And that's the end of the first chapter. ^^ And the end of page 3/27. I post the rest of the novel gradually if anybody actually shows interest in reading it. :3

More novelish. ^^

After she agreed to go with Sylv, he sped up a little from his earlier, sedate walking pace and began to speak.

"All right. We are going some place that will be totally alien from what you were used to. Most likely. You are probably not used to surviving for yourself, eating non prepackaged foods, killing your own food, in short, surviving without the luxuries inherent in the society that you have been living in. In fact, we are going to a place that is roughly equivalent with your earth in the medieval time period. Things will be very different and you will stand out. Believe me, it is nothing at all like Monty Python and the Holy Grail or anything else that you may have seen, watched, or read. Well, there may be magic, but that is another matter entirely."

Elizabeth sat with glazed over eyes and listened to him lecture. And ramble. Sylv continued to speak.

"As such, you must do what I tell you to do. I will not demand any action that is not reasonable, but it is for your own safety. Trust me, I have been through this. It was not pleasant, and it was only because I had people who actually knew what they were doing that allowed me to live through that. Furthermore…"

By this point, Elizabeth had tuned out entirely. "Is your hair really green?" she asked dazedly.

Sylv cut off mid rant. "Yes, actually. Green is my current natural hair color."

"Current? What color was it earlier?"

"It was brown when I was young."

"Were your eyes green back then?"

Sylv stared at her, but noting no guile in her dazed tone, said, "yes, actually, they were."

"Genetics are a funky thing, are they not?"

"Quite."

Sylv opened his mouth to continue with his mandate when he realized that he could not remember any more of it.

"At any rate, I think you know what it is that I am speaking of."

Elizabeth paused to parse that convoluted sentence structure. "I believe I do. So what were you doing before I bumped into you?"

"I was chasing after some people, whom I believe have gotten out of reach by now."

Elizabeth blushed. "Sorry about that."

"It is not entirely your fault. They possibly would have escaped had you not interrupted."

"Right… So what do we do now?" Elizabeth finally asked.

"Well, for now we are returning to my base of operations. Then I assume that something is going to happen. And then I shall respond and you will follow me. But for now, we should return. I am afraid that you will be unable to return to your home until something has happened. I do not know what the turning point will be, or how it will affect you. "

"What was your turning point?" asked Elizabeth.

"You are not authorized to know that at this moment," said Sylv abruptly.

An uncomfortable silence ensued. Elizabeth was hesitant to break it; Sylv was rapidly pacing onwards. Elizabeth picked up her pace as well.

Elizabeth noticed something odd about the scenery: it was appearing. The more they walked, the dimmer grew the blackness and the more the green of trees and plants and bushes shone forth. Shortly, the two were walking in a veritable forest, full of light and the song of birds and cute and fuzzy animals. Elizabeth was happy despite her abrupt withdrawal from her previous life.

"Everything is so pretty!" she enthused.

Sylv nodded. "It is very different from what you are used to, is it not?" After examining the trees, he spoke again. "I would venture to say that this is based off of the great woods of England before deforestation and all that. This is a happy place, I think."

"I agree."

They stood for a couple seconds, soaking in the sun and the fresh air before Elizabeth asked, "where exactly is this?"

Sylv hesitated. "This is something like a dream; a dream of the past, created by the people from our world. This is place where all the dreams of our world take form. This is but one aspect of it, although it is where I spend the majority of my time. It's fairly medieval, with a little bit of fantasy. Do you read fantasy novels?"

"Yes, I like them."

"Then you aided in creating this world. You probably won't come across anything unique that you recognize, however."

"Why are we here, though?"

"I was after a group called the Pink Knights. This is their home base, and they will probably be coming back… At least, I hope they will."

"And if they do not?"

"We will be heading back home."

Elizabeth perked up.

"No. As I said, the home world is blocked from you as of right now. We'll be going to my home. Do not worry. It is quite nice with nearly all the comforts of home."

"Lucky me."

"Indeed you are."
