I want to write a short BL story for valentines day, but for the life of me I can't think of anything to write! Normally my best ideas come out when I'm talking to someone, and bouncing ideas off of them. I need someone to read my rambling ideas when they start to flow, and to tell me what sounds good, and what does not.
Anyone?
EDIT - I posted chapter one if anyone would like to read it. Chapter One

I'm not really into BL, but I'll stick around and chat for a bit. I'm good with helping with ideas and giving honest opinions. So what've you been considering?

I love BL. Throw out your ideas and we'll let you know what we think of them.

Truth is I am not really sure. I know that I want to do something like a fairy tale in modern time. Mix up magic and reality a little bit. But I do not know which fairy tale I want to adapt. I have done Sleeping Beauty as well as Beauty and the Beast.
The Little Mermaid has been done a lot, but it might make for a bitter ending, which is kind of what I want. ^^=

I think that's a very good idea; assuming you're using the Grimm version of the fairy tail. I always get a romantic, mushy feeling from that version, despite the bitter ending.

Yes, I would be using the Grimm version. As a child I had watched the Disney adaptation first, and a year or so later got to watch a true Grim version. The vast difference between the two left a huge impression on me. Oops, I am rambling.
Hmm...If it is based present day I cannot easily use a real prince, so probably the son of a successful business man? Well that seems rather obvious doesn't it? Maybe the son of an actor? These days celebrities are more like royalty then real royals.
@XxRAiNBoWS - BL means Boys Love. It is Shouen-ai or yaoi. In Japan they do not call it either of that, they call it Boys Love or BL. I got into the habit of calling it that when I found that searching for BL was more fruitful. :P

Sounds like a cool idea. Your point about actors seem like royalty is very apt. Look at how much coverage they get.
Hey do you have a account on one of the writing sites?? If so I would love to check it out. always on the look out for good BL stories online.

Actually I don't. I'm not sure why, I guess I never bothered to try and find a good one. Could you suggest one?

^^' Thank you.
I just found out the meaning of 'Yaoi' about two months ago.. >>; So, I guess I'm a little newbie-to-that-kind-of-thing.
Shonen-ai I've known forever it seems, though <3
Thank you, very much, Xemsax~!

@XxRAiNBoWS - No problem.
How should I justify the mermaid being a boy? I could just change it and make the 'prince' gay, but that is too easy I think. Well he would obviously be pretty; I can justify that with him being a merman. In early Greek stories the Sirens and other mer creatures were sometimes male.
Of course if the 'prince' ends up with someone else then should it be a woman? If I do that I can twist it that the 'prince' not knowing what his choice means, and not wanting to be humiliated in the public eye he chooses the woman. After all even in today's society that tries to be more open minded a celebrity being gay is still a scandal more then anything.

True you could work it that way if you think it will work with the feel of the story. I know a lot of BL fans would be upset by that but hey it probably actually happens that way sometimes.
I know if that happens I'll feel sorry for the merman.
What do you do with your stories then??
How do you share them???
My favorite site that has original stories on it as well as fanfiction is adultfanfiction. I am addicted to it's original slash section.

I rarely share them. ^^;;; I write a lot of things for a friend of mine, and every Christmas I join one secret santa group or another and write for someone, but 96% of everything is sitting in notebooks at home. I'm trying to share more to get critique so I can improve, and of course this story I'd share.
Do you think it should be a man rather then a woman? I want to write a story people will ultimately enjoy after all.
EDIT: I think I might make the mermaid meaner then in the original story. More siren like; good idea, bad?

I like that idea. A tuff no nonsense merman. Where can I get one?? *Laughs*
As for the sex of who the "prince" ends up with.... well a woman would be more of a punch in the gut sort of thing. So if you want it nice and bitter then woman might be the way to go. If you want just a little bitter then make it another man.

I am really drawn between man and woman. If it is a woman then I can hint that the prince really did love the merman, but was not brave enough to be true to his feelings. However I have an image in my head of what the other would look like as a man, and I really like him! Oh, I would root for him for sure! If I used him it would not be as sad. I don't know, haha.

Depends how you want to play it. The Merman could think he has to convince the 'prince' to love a man, not realising the prince is actually gay, so it's an extra sting when the Prince picks another man? I love fairytale retelling, it's one of my favourite genres, fairytales that are different or don't quite work or come from another direction. I remember writing a fairy-tale style story a few years ago where Prince Charming ran of with the page boy and the Princess filed for divorce XD
But, yeah, I think it'll be a good idea whichever way you go :)

I was thinking that the first encounted the merman has with the prince would go slightly different then in the original. Rather the just watch and be amazed I wanted the merman to try and sink the boat himself. XD Siren call them into craggy rocks or something. I'll have to think about it though.
