The sun shone summer-bright in the autumn sky. The leaves that had recently turned red and gold shone with its brightness. The sky was a picturesque blue with a few cotton-white puffs of clouds in it. Summer had decided to fight autumn for just a little longer despite the fact its time was over.
A spectacular Indian summer. It was so beautiful I wished I had a camera to catch its beauty so I couldn't forget it.
There were so many things I didn't want to forget which I never found a way to preserve, so many regrets that I couldn't save one physical memento I could grasp onto when the memory started to fade.
This day would undoubtedly end up another of those things, as would many others.
But even this brief respite before summer lost its battle to autumn would end. The seasons always moved on, that's the way of things. Time stops for no one and memories erode under its onslaught.
A wistful sigh escapes my lips as I try to bring one of those fading memories to crystal clarity. My attempt was in vain, as another small detail has disappeared. The shape of his eyes had been forgotten.
I face the breeze and look up into the bright blue sky, trying to pretend it was the wind causing my eyes to water. Summer would lose its battle eventually, as I'll lose mine in time. Nothing could change that.
"If the seasons can move on, why can't I?" I whisper softly to the wind.
