In Middle School, all of the teachers stress what goes on in High School. They tell you about peer pressure, about young teenage girls who have kids, about stress, and about how important your grades are. I used to take them for granted…but I learned the hard way that I should have listened.
BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP…
“Ugh…Five more minutes Mommy.” I whined as I slammed the snooze button on my alarm clock. I got up from bed, and slowly walked over into my bathroom. I looked into the mirror only to see a fuzzy headed looking creature with blank eyes staring back at me. I brushed out my ratted blonde hair until it looked somewhat human; and then snagged a piece of toast and headed out the door to begin walking to school.
My name is Lilith Haven, or you can call me Lily for short. I’m a 16 year-old Junior in High School, and I work at a small café named Freckles. My life is hard, but I guess almost every High School student goes through the same thing.
People feel so alone now-a-days, more in High School than anywhere else. But, we’re not alone. There are more people who feel the same; more than you know…You’re never alone…Never.
I looked around and saw other kids walking to school. They all looked so tired. I guess High School does that to you. 7 hours of school, 8 hours of homework, 1 hour to relax, 2 hours to do chores, and 5 hours at most to sleep. There really isn’t any time to relax at all.
I reached my locker and shoved my backpack inside.
“Hey! What’s up Lily?” called out a loud and familiar voice. I looked around and didn’t see anyone until I turned to see someone who was so close out noses touched.
“Oh hey Libby,” I said calmly, “do you think I could snag your Bio report for a couple periods? I didn’t have enough time to do mine. I was hoping I could copy yours.”
“Say no more!” she said cheerfully as she handed me the report. “Just please have it back by lunch.”
“Alright.” I said slowly. It’s amazing how much energy she always has. One would think she eats only sugar 24-7, but I know that’s not true. I do bet she drinks like 14 cups of coffee every other hour though.
“See yah later buddy!” she said happily as she gave me a hug goodbye.
“Okay,” I said, “I’ll see you at lunch then.” By the time I had gotten that out she was almost halfway down the hallway. She waved at me and then turned left into another hallway which led to the gym.
I’ve known Libby ever since I was little. We’ve always been the best of friends. No matter what’s happened, we were always there for each other. She’s the coolest person anyone could ever know. Behind her freckles and glasses, there’s a magnificent girl.
No one could ever compare to her, not even my other friends. I care for them dearly, but all in all, Libby is the best.
