This is an idea I have been flaunting around in my head for a the past few hours. I just need your opinions on it, and anything that you think could be added to improve the plot.

My story is about a high school teenager who is quite popular on campus. He has the cheerleader/popular girl girlfriend and has the best of friends. One day during lunch he is sitting alone on the school patio watching everything around him when he is approached by the loner kid who is always picked on. This kid doesn't have many friends, money, or personality. He's just one of those kids who always seems to be "there" with nobody ever talking to him. He starts a casual conversation about the past month of school, then leaves. Later he figures out this "loser" has moved next door. This kid starts taking the main characters style, friends, and skills. He is basically swapping lives. The main character has a decline in popularity and starts becoming the "loser".

So how do you like it? I'm not in high school anymore but my life isn't something that would really be interesting in a story. It's more like a modern Prince and the Pauper kind of story.

It seems like a pretty interesting idea, if you could pull it off. The most troublesome part of it I think would be just how the loner would suddenly take all the friends from the popular student. If he was a well-established "popular kid", then it always seems kind of a reach in movies and such when they are suddenly dethroned. I suppose the loner kid just moving there would work it out, but the way you made it out seemed like he was also well established as a loner.

If you can figure out a coherent way to make the popular kid loose the popularity, like getting expelled for a while, or grounded, or something that would put a notch in the popularity, then it could be pretty interesting. :0

It'd also be interesting if you took advantage of showing just how messed up the popular kid could be, since it seems to me that in stories like this it's always put out that their life would be just perfect if that loner kid would just go away.

I think I remember an episode of Clarissa Explains It All (or something similar) like this. That's not to say your idea doesn't have merit; I think it could be very good. I'd like to hear more about your character and situational ideas.
