So, before I start I'm not advocating underage drinking, I want to discuss it.
So, me and my brother are trying to get my parents to have a small prom after party, but there's one problem with them allowing this; alcohol. They're not cool with all the risks involved with people underage drinking, such as liability issues and the whole fact it's illegal.
And I totally sympathize with them - so that's not the issue in question.
What I wanted to ask is, do you think it's okay for people to drink underage (it's almost an accepted aspect of teen culture anyways) but what are you personal thoughts on underage drinking?

I don't think it's that big of a deal, to be honest. I don't drink myself, but I don't see a problem with a drink or two.
Though I definetly have a problem with people that get COMPLETELY WASTED, especially if they do it a lot. If all you can talk about every day is how you got "SO SHIT-FACED ON THE WEEKEND DUDE LOL", then in my opinion, you are a loser.

I enjoy a good social drinking party, but I never go to parties with the intention of getting plastered. That just seems very irresponsible.

Personally, I think people shouldn't go over the limits that they are given. Most people make fools of themselves no matter what age they are, sometimes even more so when they are underage. If someone wants to drink themselves into an early grave that's up to them. I had my first taste of alcohol at 15, I wasn't much of a drinker then and now I have 1 glass every 6-8 months depending on how I feel. One drink is fine as long as you don't over do it.

I personally have no problem about drinking. It just doesn't happen. I have meds that destroy my liver enough. Any alcohol, and I'd probably die.
That said, I do think that underaged drinking CAN be ok, but only in a safe environment.
If you're drinking wine at dinner with the family, who cares? I used to do that when I was like.. 10. (before the meds) Obviously, not that much, but it de-sensitized me to the "ooh! Let's drink cause it's taboo!"
I think it's a responsible thing for parents to introduce their kids to alcohol at home just for that reason. If you've drunk before, it's not as tempting of a taboo.
I think ANYONE regardless of age getting plastered is retarded as fuck. Where is the fun in puking and feeling sick?
Tipsy is what it's all about. :3
But I do understand your parent's situation. It's one thing to allow you and your brother to drink in their house. But a group of friends is very different. Perhaps if they talked to the friends' parents beforehand?

I don't really see any point in drinking. There're cheaper and better tasting liquids in the world.. so obviously, the only reason to drink is to get drunk.
And when people I know get drunk, they get even more annoying than they usually are.. so... yeah.. I'm anti-drinking in general.. underaged or not.

Haha. Kinda on the same point as Sutebu?
It's a whole lot more fun to get high. And it's better for your body.
Actually, did you know the two reasons why pot is illegal in the US?
1. the alcohol industry. 2. the cotton industry.
Pot is better for you as a drug. UNLESS you smoke your body weight at once, it's not harmful. (except the smoke. That's why brownies, or in medical cases, inhalers, are the good choice!)
Also, hemp is a whole lot easier to grow then cotton, would be cheaper (both to produce and buy), and is better for the environment.
So both industries lobby against it. Hard.
That said? have a pot party. :3 XD (like that's any better for your parents...)

I personally don't like to drink, I've had some sips of it and hated the taste; when my mother has a few friends over and drinks with them, the smell makes me feel like throwing up, but, if a person wants to, then, I don't care. Just, don't force me to drink it or smell it and I'm okay. ^-^

How is it an accepted aspect?
I don't think underage drinking should be taken lightly, there is an age limit for a reason. However, one or two drinks is fine, but not enough for the teen to get drunk, but only if their parent or another adult is around. Besides, if you can't wait till you're old enough, then you don't have a lot of self control, in my opinion.
I'm 19 (the legal drinking age where I live), and I hardly every drink.

Haha. I was a weird kid. I used to LOVE sips of my daddy's beer. It tastes so good to me. (Probably because he always buys the more expensive stuff. He gave me a taste of bud once and I spit it out. He was like, "Taste that? That's piss. Not beer."... I asked him what "piss" was.. XD)
And wine, preferably red wine, is delicious. :3 White is good too. I just hate hate hate rouge. >.> tastes like crap.
But I dunno. I have expensive tastes with wine and beer, and have never tried hard liquor. I don't want to either.

hmm.. I've never had alcohol, but I've heard it tastes disgusting, so I don't see why people like it so much. I assume it's for social reasons.. as long as they don't drink and drive, I don't see the big deal..as long as they are able to have some self-control really..

Personally, I don't think people under the age are responsible enough to drink. The majority just aren't really mature enough and not only that, but the body is still developing. I also think that because underage drinkers put themselves above the law, this just shows the lack of responsible thinking.
However, I'm pretty anti-alcohol as a whole, so it's obvious that I wouldn't care for minors drinking alcohol.

I think it's okay. I mean, I've been drinking since I was 14, and I'm absolutely fine.
What I don't think is okay is when they get absolutely pissed drunk and do things they will regret.
It's one thing to have a few drinks with some friends, it's another thing altogether to binge drink, throw up in a gutter, drink some more, and start a fight/have unprotected sex/commit a crime/etc, something that they wouldn't have even considered doing when sober.
I think the key is to know your limit. I know mine, and I've never done anything particularly stupid. (snogging random strangers does NOT count as stupid, okay! I mean things that'll get you in trouble, or things you'll regret.)

In my opinion I see it all as a huge problem. Though, not just with those under age, but with anyone in general. It doesn't matter if your over the proper age limit or not, drinking that stuff is disgusting in my opinion. Reason alone I don't drink is because I take medication, and it could really mess me up, and or it could make the seizures I could have if not taking the medication worse.
Though, if others drink around me, they better think twice on trying to get me to drink the stuff, too. I even hate drugs and smoking. Anything like that I will not touch, and expect others to acknowledge that.

I don't agree with it.
It's illegal for a reason. Teenage bodies are less physically able to handle alcohol than a more mature body. We can get alcohol poisoning easier.
And teens who do do it -regardless of whether or not they get totally shitfaced or just buzzed- when it's illegal just shows something about their character. That they can't wait -oh god- three or four years to be able to do it legally. They have to do it RIGHT NOW.
Teens are hopped up on hormones and thus are stupid enough. They don't need alcohol to accentuate that.

I don't really see the point. It's not like drinking is a big deal. But that's just my opinion. Most of my class in high school seemed to disagree. >.< I hardly ever drank before I turned 21. I had sips of my parents drinks and like a wine cooler or a glass of champagne on New Years occasionally, but that was about it. I'm almost 23 now and I have never been drunk, I've never even been tipsy. I have never had more than one drink in a row. I dislike the taste of alcohol, so I don't drink a lot. I like drinks like margaritas and mud slides, things that are fruity or sweet and mask the taste of the alcohol. I never understood why my peers (both in high school and in college) were so obsessed over drinking and getting drunk. I mean, why do you want to be so out of it that you can't control yourself and do things you either regret or can't remember the next day? It's just not worth it in my opinion. So, I think underage drinking is stupid, unless you're having like a glass of wine or something with your parents.
The only issue that I have with drinking laws is the age. I think that's a bit odd that at 18 you can join the military and go fight and possibly die for your country, but you can't legally drink alcohol. But I suppose that's another discussion entirely.

Of course! I'm 16 and all my friends drink, except me, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy them making fools of themselves. I mean, come on, as long as it's done on the weekends, who cares? It's not impairing your ability to do good in school, and none of our parents have a problem with it.
My parents even told me that they wouldn't tolerate drinking in this house, but they had no problem with me going out and having a few. It's natural and if they prohibit it, I'll just want to do it even more. Besides, I've been drinking wine with family dinners since I was 14. I don't see the difference between that and a bottle of beer.

I think the problem with underage drinking is that most teenagers don't know their limits. I really don't think that underage drinking is a good idea... I'm personally 19 and have only had sips of things here and there. I never drink... I dunno... I guess I don't really want to get into a big rant-fest about all the particulars of what I think so I'll just leave it at that. ^^;

Well it really depends,if no one sees you drink and your not going out somewhere and your parents don`t mind i don`t what the big deal is.Now if your going to drive or something than thats not very smart. You parents are doing the right thing though by not allowing it at a party because they could get in trouble for something other children i mean teens did.I think its not too bad if you limit your drinking and don`t do it often

I think it really depends on the type of people drinking. If someone who knows their limits has a few drinks then I think it's ok. I just hate it when people purposely go out to get wasted. No matter what their age anyone can be an idiot and ignore their limits when it comes to drinking. I hardly ever drank when I was underage, in fact all I ever had was one little sip of my dad's drink on New Year's. I spat it out because I didn't like the taste. Once I turned 21 I still hardly drank, but I began to learn what I like and don't like. The only times I really drink are when I'm out with friends and on New Year's. Other than that I pretty much don't drink at all.

I don't think underaged drinking is terrible if done responsibly. But since so many teenagers are irresponsible and immature, that's when the problems happen. If they knew when to stop it wouldn't be a big deal. I think the fact that it is illegal is what drives kids to want to do it more. Once you're old enough it's not as big of a deal. I drank underaged once. Just once. I was served alcohol at this place that was serving it to everyone and they didn't think to ask me my age. I was only a year underage though, and I only had one glass, so I really don't see it as a big huge deal. So I broke the law a little bit. If I'd been in nearly any other country it would probably been legal. The US has such a high age compared with everywhere else to begin with, so who's to say that you have to be exactly twenty one to have a drink? Now that I'm old enough, I have a drink once in a while, usually on special occasions. I still don't see the big deal about it, maybe because I've never drank more than one drink at once and never really felt the effects of it. I drink for the taste really, I like certain drinks, whereas others taste nasty to me so I generally stay away from those. Anyways, as far as the party is concerned, if I were you, I wouldn't push for a party with alcohol, because your friends might not be responsible, they might get in their cars and drive home drunk and get killed or kill someone else, any number of things, and if your parents are present at the party and allow these kids to have drinks, they could be charged with something and be in trouble. So it's best to just not do it really.

Being an underage drinker myself, I'd be a hypocrite not to be for it. But I will tell you that I drink responsibly. I only have one or two drinks at a time and sometimes only once a month. I was only drunk once and it was not a pleasant feeling so I know my limits and know not to cross them. I think one reason teenagers like getting shit-faced is because the risk that it's illegal. Makes no sense? Think about teenage defiance. I can honestly say that I didn't start out of defiance myself since I started drinking at the age of five. I'm not going to go into details about it as it's another story entirely. But onto the teenage defiance. Think about all the things teenagers like to do merely because they're not ALLOWED to. The way they dress, the parties they can't go to, if they're told not to date and do, smoking, having sex at a young age, etc. I think if it wasn't so pushed upon to them that they're not allowed to do these things, then it wouldn't actually be quite as detrimental to their health and bodies. I'm not saying we should endorse these acts, but merely discourage them and create a better alternative. Instead of wearing that tiny blouse that barely covers your breasts, how about this cute halter top that still shows a bit of skin around your back and shoulders? We really need to teach the children that there's wiggle room and a grey area between a black habbit and white nothingness. So honestly, if there's a problem with a child, it's both the child's fault and the parent's for not trying to fix it.
