I believe I believe in karma as well, I say I don't but I seem to always try to do the right thing. I don't know why, probably because I believe in karma and most people don't but I bet I have a few years of bad luck tucked under my belt as well as many people do as well, I don't think anyone will never have all good luck and no bad luck, that's dumb. How could you not have any bad luck? That's my question.

I'm not really into superstitions so far as believing them, but I tend to avoid things that are considered bad luck because they're things I've done since I was a kid. I knock on wood to avoid bad luck and try not to break mirrors. I think I avoid walking under ladders more because I'm afraid of it falling down then it giving me bad luck. I don't have a problem at all with black cats or stepping on cracks.
I do like good luck charms more than bad luck. I like looking for four leaf clovers. I've found a few and preserved them with some tape. I have one stuck to an old sketchbook....I wonder if that's against the rules.
Anyway. I also throw salt over my shoulder if I spill some, but that's because it's fun.
Edit: Tangerine Static, I used to to do the "holding your breath by a cemetery" too. I read about it in a book for school one time. The kids were riding in the car and they did that. They also held their arms up while going across a bridge to keep it from falling down. Not sure if you got it from there too, it's kind of a really young kids story.

I don't mind an open umbrella in a house, i always find it easier to walk around a ladder save getting paint in my hair, i never mean to step on cracks, but alas, i do.

I'm not supertitious but two of my friends are.
One didn't want to have any curly lines or loops in her siganture because that means you will go in circles your whole life or something..
The other was sitting on the ground once with her legs out, I stepped over them and she made me step backwards over them again. She was really worried about it too. Not sure if I can call that superstition though... she just thought she wouldn't grow anymore if I stepped over her legs.
But yea, they're not THAT superstitious. Although I think it would be kinda freaky if you were looking at a mirror and it suddenly broke (How ugly would you have to be to do that?! xP )
People thought flies were born of meat (or spontaneously generated) because the meat was off and the flies laid eggs on it. The flies would hate and voila, maggots (equals flies)
They were so small that people couldn't see them. But now people know that all cells come from preceding cells.
That's what my Biology teacher told me anyway.. better confirm it with General Lee Outrageous :>

Yes, I was. ;_;
.....Circles? I wouldn't mind walking around in a circle but that's just me.
At everyone else: `3` The only mildly superstitious thing I've done is knock on wood. I'm not sure exactly why but I was at my friends house and everything wood I knocked on. Not sure what it brings but I did kind of creep my friend out.

I'm not superstitious at all.
If someone is, I usually push them as far as possible. Once my friend told me not to open an umbrella inside, so I went and opened like five. It was amusing.

Man, if I'm a jerk. When I have friends that don't like something, or are over superstitious, I do as much as I can to annoy the hell out of them.

Yes, I love it when I'm dizzy and I lay (or just fall) on the ground, everything moves (like the walls and the ceiling) x]
I used to play a game where we would stick our arms out and spin in circles really fast. Last one standing was the winner.
(This is Duchess by the way.. and don't worry, I WILL change my username.. only got 537 more gold to earn :D

I don't believe in the whole if you do something, it'll cause bad luck thing. I think what happens, happens for a reason regardless of what you do/don't do. I hate the whole "black cats are bad luck" thing especially. I hate someone try to kill my cat over that once, which resulted in me punching the person and chasing them out of my yard.

Someone tried to KILL you cat?!
o_o;; I would chase them down the street with a knife. Why would they come into your yard just to hurt the poor animal? Idiotic people. >>
;-; I miss my cat so much.. (it wasn't killed by someone though)

I don't believe in superstition. It's why when I do shows, right before I go onstage I scream out MacBeth!
I want to always see if the curse is true or not...but nothing bad happens, so it obviously isn't.

That's seriously insane...
I believe in superstitions as much as I believe in the bible, which is to say, I don't... but sometimes they're harmless. In a situation like the one you're talking about, obviously they're not...
I wonder if the people who believe in superstitions knew where they all came from they would still believe in them. It's all a matter of contexts.

Eh, superstitions are just nice ways of blaming something for misfortunes. We're always looking for something to point the finger at, and if a broken mirror or open umbrella does the trick, the superstition lives on.

Yeah, that's definitely true, but I think it's kind of like religions, just on a smaller scale. They're still cultural though and have to do with things which are long gone for the most part.
