I've just got back from Sweden, which we visited for a week, and I love the feeling of seeing familiar things and hearing a familiar language. (Although everyone in Stockholm could speak English!)

I just came in and splodged onto my own bed. My room's messy, but it's home.

Other Things About Travel

1. The terror of trying out an unfamiliar shower (searing hot or freezing cold water awaits your trembling naked body)
2. Unfamiliarity with the currency (trying to buy a large ice-cream with the equivalent of $0.50)
3. Obliviously wandering into abundant cycle lanes. Cyclists don't bother stopping for pedestrians as, unlike motorists, they are confident that the victim will merely be nicely maimed instead of killed. There's a risk they themselves will be injured, but they just had to swerve for a car and they're feeling pissed.

Oh, where's your sense of adventure? :P
I guess culture shock hit hard?
I think being in a country of a language I didn't speak would be pretty excitingly terrifying, because I certainly wouldn't want a guide or anything. P:
Yeah.
No idea what's happening. Cool.

I like going to different places and seeing different things. The only time I had problems with the launguge is when I was in the Galapagos Islands and I thought my guide said that this BBQed piece of "chicken" was chicken when it was guinea pig and I didn't find out until after I ate it.

well WHY didn't you come to Finland D: ish just in the neighbourhood :S
and we don't sound as silly as swedish people.. xP really, I can never take a swedish person seriously because of the way they talk...

I was watching STargate once with swedish subtitles, and it really ruined it... =D
okay, a little off topic now..

I love to go to unfamiliar places.. because no one knows me ^^

Last year I was in Italy for two weeks and it was fairly easy to adapt to. I was the youngest person in my tour group and I never got lost (I actually had to lead the adults back to the hotel sometimes). I picked up on the language fairly well since some words are easy to figure out in English and other words were similar to Spanish, which I took for 3 years. And I learned very quickly that when you're walking down the street, you stay as close to a building as possible because most of the time there were no sidewalks and the streets were very narrow. I can't tell you how many times I had to yell "Car!" to get the rest of the tour group out of the street.

But, After about 10 days, I was getting a little homesick. I wasn't really on vacation in Italy. I was on a religious pilgrimage (which, ironically, I decided I didn't want to be Catholic anymore during the pilgrimage). So every day, we were walking long distances to visit mostly churches. Don't get me wrong! The churches there are breathtaking, but they all started to look the same after awhile. Except St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. That was unforgettable!

Anyways, the plane ride home took forever. The flight from Italy to the US was fine, but trying to get back to Florida was horrible. We made it on the plane, but the we couldn't take off for 2-3 hours! And there were very impatient kids sitting behind me. Then we finally make it to Florida. It was rainy and muggy but I was so glad to be home. The food in Italy was great, but I really needed a cheeseburger xD

Last time we went to America we actually flew first class to San Francisco... so it was a ten hour flight, but it was so luxurious up there. o.o

@Pearl: That must have been nice! I forget how long the flight from the US to Italy was. Maybe 12 hours? Probably longer. Normally, I just like staring out the window, but since we were over the ocean most of the time, there wasn't much to look at xD
So I occupied myself by watching the same 4 episodes of House 3 times and listening to my ipod. I'm so glad I'm easily entertained xD

I've never been to Sweden. Was it beautiful?

I've only been to Maine, really. And a few of the provinces in Canada.

I had enough of being away from home when I went on vacation by myself for the first time. I was only three hours away, but having to bye everything myself and figure out what to do each day was pretty exhausting. I was pretty much yelling with joy when I saw signs for my home town and saw things that I recognized. It's nice to be home.

Ohh yeah xD "Cuyes" taste like chicken anyways :3
I haven't had any problems with the language, mainly because I've never been out of my country. But I think next year most ecuadorians will, if we accept the new constitution project, all of us will have to start studying quichwa xD [/offtopic]
Hmm problems I've had while traveling:
- When people use slangs you've never ever heard before.
- When roads are like in Italy [with no sidewalks, and really narrow]
- When you notice your clothing isn't suitable for the weather.
- When your car isn't suitable for the weather.
- When you are not suitable for the weather [or viceverse o.Ô]
- Weird foods, or foods with weird names [Mystic! If you come again, and your guide says "llapingacho", DONT EAT IT!]

PS: I hope to go on a trip to Germany next vacation :) Then I'll have all these problems above, including the language issue xD

I never get to go to other countries so I wouldn't know about anything other than the shower thing. Yeah that sucks. But I also know the fear of wondering if that shower is gonna smell like rotten eggs. When I stay at my friends house she has well water. AND it smells horrible. If she toke a shower before me it is not too bad, but if I am the first one in...I get a little sick.

XD Awww, I feel bad about the shower and homicidal bicyclists but that's pretty funny. I'd definitely make sure those tards flipped onto the street if they hit me. XD
Even though there's a huge difference between traveling to a different country and going across the U.S but I feel the same way when I'm either on vacation or visiting and stay out for at least 4 to 5 days. I can only imagine how timid I would be with money in a foreign country since I'm always timid when I go shopping. ><; If a vacation tends to be slightly fun but more of a nightmare by the end I'm begging to be in my room and hermit for a while. XD Specially when you come into your room and it smells like you when you feel the full welcome. >w<

@Kah Hilzin-Ec: Luckily I don't eat meat any more so I don't have to worry about it too much. XD I'll be back down there, hopefully next year. I'm guessing it's more or less how the dish is served more than what's in it?

wow. o.o''
I was born in Europe and where i was they spoke a different language, but i don't remember any of it since i was adopted when i was 2 years old. I haven't been there again. and i haven't been to a place where they talk in a different language. But if i did go to a place where they did i'd be confused and i would miss home.
