I too like the older anime much more.

Like, of course, the classics like Fushigi Yugi, which is a masterpiece in instelf, Project A-ko, one of Japan's first parody movies...unless you grew up in Japan, you'd never see all the parody in this one (it's like their "Space Balls"), or Ranma 1/2, another great show.

I hate how everything seems to copy something else now...like a little too closely. With Inuyasha, the same author doesn't seem to make it any different from the style she used in Ranma 1/2, and frankly, you can expect what will happen.

However, not all "copies" are bad. Magical Project S is an excellent parody off of shows like Sailor Moon while remaining a separate story from it's original tale of Tenchi Muyo. Escaflowne and Rayearth are similar, but they are very unique at the same time.

My main gripes about anime though is all the mainstream crap that everyone thinks is good, stuff like Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha, Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh, etc.

I like the older anime too, but like movies, there is not new ideas, it is just a mixture of old ideas. I do agree with the main stream awll is new, although I think almost none of it earns the rep it has, I use to love FMA until it became popular cause then it just seemed to be a fandom series, and not one that people appreciated for the finer points, like life lessons that are built into it. I do love Escaflowne, Tenchi, Card captor sakura etc...but I also understand that like old movies, the media isn't going to jsut keep with those, and are going to make new series. They might not be the best, but at least it is still there.

My biggest issue with new anime is that people no longer watch things like eva, escaflowne, and the other series that were the base and the originals of the anime series these days. Someone can play gndam wing opening now, and only a few even recognize it. People can be fans of newer stuff, but also understnad the older stuff, and at the very least watch it.

For anime, yes I do think it's just the same thing.
Only for the reason that they are trying to appeal to those who like the series. FMA fans will probably be attracted to D. Gray Man because it is pretty similar. I mostly see this in Shonen series. (and sadly, Shonen animes are pretty much the only series shown in USA televisions.) That's why I prefer shoujo. xD.

Thats kinda sad to say that everything is the same and just give up. If you actually take the time to LOOK you will find many interesting manga and anime out there. Judging by how easily you throw anime aside I'm guessing you wern't much of a fan from the start. =/

Codea geass is a good show, a bit like deathnote but not to much, I have also read a few good manga lately. Doubt and uzumaki are two of the titles that were pretty original.

Correction: Only some of it is shit.

The ones that I consider that are the repeats. I am more of a reader of manga anyways and I usually read a lot of seinin.
Anime wise: I still a big fan of the seinin with a decent amount of violence, a good storyline, some language, and little to none of the porn crap. Some of the anime that is made have a manga that is still continuing. This did not go so well for Chrno Crusade, Get Backers, Hellsing (Lucky to get a second try with OVAs), etc. Also, much of the popular anime is shonen-based: Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, and the rest of them.

I personally like them all, but I have one thing to say: I cannot wait for the CGI movie of BLAME! to come.

I just wish Adult Swim, Toonami, and Sci-fi show some really cool anime, I'm getting tired of watching Inuyasha(I like it but seeing it over and over again) I'm glade DBZ is off the air because I hated it. Don't get me wrong here but it took a long time for them to kill the bad guy or find out what the heck is he/she is doing, and don't go there with them powering up it's like they are takeing the worlds largest dump ever.
I couldn't get into the Gundum series(all of them), it got confusing and it got board after a while. So you might say there are some anime shows I like and there are some that take a long time to get to the good stuff and not leave anyone hanging for next week.
