With all the samurai/ninja media about these days, some of us have probably run into people who can't agree which of these two fighting classes are better. I, for one, have certainly met many people willing to have mini-debates about it. ;) Honour or stealth? Duels or assassination? Warriors or assassins? Vote and discuss!

I think assassins are better at killing people in secret...
But as far as fighting goes, warriors will always win.
Why? More muscle maybe.

Oh no, you don't have warriors on the poll... D:
And I don't care much for samurais...

Well, that's hard to generalize, Thoth. Ninjas may well be as muscular as samurai!

Mmm, true. I guess it depends on the training that individual goes through.

I tend to prefer assassination myself, but honourable battle does have its appeal. XDD

Nothin honorable about killing each other.
Its just impossible to kill more than a hundred people by surprise... unless you have explosives, which ninjas did have. Lol.

Well, people thought differently back then. In quite a few cultures, dying in battle was an honour. XD"

*nod* Yes, but they were brainwashed into thinking that... It was all a scam.
Like how we get people to join the military today to fight in Iraq for 'patriotism.'

Perhaps. In some it was culture, in others religion, but even if they were brainwashed into thinking it, that was the norm of the day, and it was widely believed. The North on society's moral compass has always simply been where the majority preference/belief lies, after all. Just like the samurai considered death by ritual suicide (seppuku) to be one of the honourable ways to die, while some places today consider suicide a crime. So to them, it was certainly honourable.

I though in the time of ninjas and samurai that ninjas were not honorable at all. Samurias were considered to be the highest of honorable people.

Thats the norm today. x-----x Sacrifice sacrifice sacrifice... It all leads nowhere. *deep thoughts*

And after the samurai, the kamikaze was born...
Japan has always been into suicide, culturally...

Yes, we were talking about samurai when we were having that discussion...or at least I was. When I mentioned other cultures, I was thinking of the Vikings in particular. XD"

LoL, come to think of it, I can hardly disagree. Seppuku, kamikaze, suicide pacts...

o3o I remember a story of a samurai that got into a swordfight with another samurai for bumping his umbrella. One of 'em ended up dead. >3>;;

As far as speed goes... Samauri take the lead. Real samauri battles have a winner determined within only a few seconds. The reason for this is that they're so powerful that one hit WILL kill you. They're quick, efficient and powerful.

I think that really depends on the relative skill level of all parties involved though. =3

ninjas,
Samurai are thick headed mas-produced warriors relying only on there top weapons and armor that there emperor gave them to kill the eastern farmers and take there land.
The farmers, protecting what was rightfully there's were forced to adapt. With un molded minds they were able to create new tactics so effective and deceiving that we still don't know how most of them worked.

I think that's quite amazing, yes. Plus, does anyone sometimes think that a strict code of honour tends to limit your options? Like...you could get the job done way faster if you use stealth or poison or something like that, but a samurai would have to kill his target honourably in a duel, right? =3

I like ninja the best. They kill silently but ruthlessly.
Warriors kill in well...wars. They're probably not as delicate but they are quite powerful..
Samurais I would say are a mix, but not a very good one. I see them more as warriors. They're morals are WAY higher than that of a ninja's, which can be their own downfall at times. But they're techniques and patience make them opponents to be watched.

So all them have their pro's and cons, but I just favor ninjas the most.

i disagree with that. when you have top quality weapons and armor when your killing innocent and starving farmers for there land in the name of you lord, it don't really seem that "honorably"
(Farmers, dusk the reason so many of the ninja's weapons resembled farming tools)

Honour was defined differently at different times in history though. =3 And whenever there has been a social hierarchy, customs and even laws have always favoured the upper classes.

I prefer ninja's. Purely because they don't need a sword to kill someone. And well i think they are weapon best left uncreated, if truth be known.

Heya Crystal. XD I think we already created the worst when we created nuclear weapons. Even if you ignore the immediate damage, the radiation pollution in the aftermath is devastating. =3

Hey :)
Thats true, you still see the babies being created with problems even though the nuclear bomb was so long ago. >_> terribly price to pay. But the Samari sword is still a lethal weapon >.> i used to like them... not anymore.
