The manga was produced a couple years after the anime. One of the creators decided to "reimagine" the series by fleshing out some plot points. The American publishers have recently "caught up" to the Japanese ones and volume 10 is due out sometime in April. Personally, I can wait. The art's great, but the extra stuff doesn't really make me writhe with anticipation.

Speaking of NGE manga, I have taken a great interest in a new series called 'Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days'. (SPOILER WARNING: Basically, it takes that alternate universe that Shinji dreams about in Episode 26, and creates a parallel storyline from there. Don't worry, though. Eva combat is still a big part of the story. XD) I just ordered the brand new 4th volume at Borders, and I'm waiting for it to come in. :3nod:

I'm not a tremendous fan of "Angelic Days". I liked the idea, but the art seems rushed and just ... awkward at times. And the plot turned too much to the normal EVA stuff and kind of starts and stops randomly ... I dunno. There's a lot of good ideas going on there, but it seems like it could've been so much more. I've not finished it yet ... I have the 4th volume waiting at work, but I refuse to read it until I've bought it. And apparently, there's a fifth volume due out, according to Previews o.O. Looks like it might be a sequel to the first "Angelic Days"

Oh man, the whole thing just ends so insanely!
..and it's like... the movie did so little to tie it all up

I mean, at first it seems like the movie will present the ending that the last two eps kind of failed to allude properly to its audience... but then we're presented with a movie ending that's just as abnormal as the series'...

Oh, favorite quote time... right at the beginning:

"So F***ed up"

Well, there are rumors more than one Evangelion movie will be made, besides the one coming out in a few years, and that one of them will continue on from where EoE ended.

nah, I hear the new movies will completely displace the ending of the series AND the End of Evangelion.... perhaps it won't become so religious+cultlike in the rewritten ending. :?

I loved the whole thing. the ending became sort of disturbing and such when that fifth child gay guy showed up and wanted to sleep with Shinji. And there was a lot of drama going around and around. but then again, drama makes for great entertainment. I'm not so sure about the german chick and the Ray clones was just creepy. But that's why i love it!

I can't wait for Rebuild! I hope Kaworu has more than 13 minutes of screentime... and I hope he doesn't die. XD

Also I find it hilarious that you guys are avoiding spoiling people when this series is literally older than the internet? :?

I adore this show so much <3333

I love it all and it's insanity.
I remember watching the EoE after I had my wisdom teeth removed. During that movie, it didn't matter that the viciden(spell?) wasn't working so well

Eva was one of the first anime shows I ever watched.. once I found out what anime was and consciously sought it out.. rather than just being a kid and having random ones on TV.

I watched it in one sitting and ended up with a slightly broken brain XD

I love the show, it flips from pleasant and comical to OMG WTF ANGST DOOM so much.. it's a bit of a rollercoaster. The sexy robot designs don't hurt either, I still admire the stylised muscle structures even now. *is a sucker for mecha*

I think I actually prefer the manga version myself, it explains a lot of things much more and has a better development for the characters. The earlier introduction of Kaworu helps a lot :) He always felt a bit slapped on in the anime.

I'm looking forward to the remake+new ending movies, the first one's out in Japan next month so hopefully there will be a shifty fansub fairly soon. The trailer looks gorgeous. The animation was amazing for the original in it's day, it doesn't even look too terribly dated now, but the remade version is just slick :)

I love this anime, even in all it's warped disturbing manner. Generally I'm not big on robot-type of shows, but the character development and their backgrounds just make it so much more. You really just have to sit down and watch the whole series through to get the full effect, it's not an anime where you can just join in and watch. And you can visually see the gradual insanity of the plot, even the general animation style changes.

I really enjoy all the characters.

Alright, who hasn't heard of this show?
Seriously, Neon Genesis is like the GOD of anime. If you haven't seen it, I suggest doing that. Right now. Go.
It's what turned the world of anime upside-down.

Also, am I the only one that hates Rei?! D:
