When I was a kid, I always liked to read fairy tales. I liked how they were short, and had some essense of magic to them. My girlfriend likes them very much too, so sometimes I'll write a fairy tale for her. My newest one is a little boy named Daniel. I'll be posting it here, and asking for comments and suggestions when it is finished. =)

I try to keep the fairy tale plainly written, like the ones I remember from my childhood.

  • Once upon a time, there was a little boy. His name was Daniel, and Daniel was only eight years old. This boy grew up in a very small village, in a very small town with his mother, father and an older brother named Donovan. Daniel was a very ill little boy. He was always sick, or burning up a fever, so rather than sending him about to do house work and help with the small shop his father owned, Daniel was kept at home.

One day, Daniel's father brought him home a book. It was a small book, with many pictures. Over time, Daniel's father taught him to read, to help him pass the time he had at home, since he could do little else. The boy took to learning quickly, and was very pleased by his new hobby. Once every few months, Daniel's father would bring him home a new book to read. Since books were rare, and hard to come by, Daniel always treasured these gifts.

One day upon awaking, Daniel came to the kitchen and saw his father had a very disappointed look on his face. Daniel understood at once when he saw his newest book on the kitchen table. The corners were shredded and many of the pages were ripped, with small pieces of it laying on the floor and on the table. Daniel was very upset, and he tried to explain to his father that it wasn't him. That he wasn't careless with the new book. He said someone must have moved the book from it's place inside his dresser and ripped it up.

to be continued in the next post.

  • His father of course, did not believe such a story. And said that if it happened again, he would not spend money buying him more books. Daniel went to his room with his book and cried at his loss, not understand how this could have happened.

A few nights later, the same thing happened. His book was removed his dresser, placed on the floor this time, and bits and pieces of it were missing. Daniel cleaned it up, because anyone noticed this had happened. He decided to set a trap, to see how this happening. The following night, he stayed up. He was half asleep though, by the time he heard something moving in the kitchen. The little boy got up, and tip toed his way out of his room and to the kitchen.

In the kitchen, on the floor, was Daniel's book. He didn't remember seeing anyone come into his room to take the book, but then again, he was half asleep. As he crept closer, he saw a tiny red mouse on the floor, chewing on the corner of his book. Daniel was angered, and lifted the book up, bringing it down on the mouse. When he lifted the book back up, the mouse was not there.

He looked around, and saw the tiny red mouse scurrying for the door. He followed it.
