HI again everyone. My computer went and died. Stupid battery.

@Star: Well fire certainly doesn't sound like a pathetic thing to be bothered about.

Not even when you're so terrified of it you can't even light one of the gas rings on the cooker (that isn't the one you usually use because that one won't work, and you only use that one because you can light it and be as far away from the burst of flames as possible)?
or use matches at all, or lighters?
or You can't light candles, or incense?
or go near a fireplace

all because you're scarred for life of being taken into the burnt out shell of your auntie's house, which was black and had insulation hanging from holes in the ceiling that were torn out by the fire?

Star...that's an excellent reason to be afraid of fire. You have nothing to be ashamed of for not wanting to be near it. It's a destructive power that no one should take for granted, even when we use it for everyday things. You just got caught up in the worst sort of accident, and something that traumatic does leave scars. So don't feel pathetic about it. You're far from it.

Star it's fine to be afraid of things like that espcially when it's happened to someone close to you that's when it affects you most.

i still can't help feel pathetic though. I almost have a panic attack every time the fire bell rings at school, even though i know it's just a drill.
I freaked when a friend of a friend of mine produced a lighter from nowhere and randomly light it.
When i have to be in the same room as a lit fireplace, i sit as far away from it as i can, and as close to the door as i can so i can run out if anything happens.
When my parents decide to light candles, then leave the room, i have to stay in the room and either blow it out or watch it so it doesn't set anything alight.
when there's a blackout and my brother breaks out the candles and lanterns, i always have on lantern that i keep hold of, that holds the candle safely inside because i feel slightly better knowing if i keep hold of it, it won't set anything alight...

Sounds like one of the most reasonable causes for a phobia I've ever heard of. *hugs*

You shouldn't feel pathetic for a psychological fear. There's only so much I can talk you out of, but at the least, I don't think you're pathetic, especially not for a phobia.

yes, I am. I hope you're enjoying your first event.

Star... *hugs* It sounds like it's terribly hard for you. Yes... you're reactions are extreme but they're not pathetic and they make perfect sense. At least you don't panic & flail & start fires accidentally because of your fear. *hugs* It's hard, and painful I'm sure... but not pathetic. *hugs*

puckernuts... I really have to go. *pouts* Everyone take care and continue to enjoy the event!

I'd hug you, but I try not to be that presumptuous. I'm glad you feel a little better though.
