Solaria: Woooow, you guys are a mini sanctuary, that's so nice! I bet it was fun growing up there and getting to care for all different kinds of animals.
Amaitae: Ah. I can see that.

It was a pain in my ASS to train my pit bull, he is so stubborn. GRRRR. He will STILL growl and show his teeth to me if I'm scolding him, but I just do it right back and he'll cower. He knows where he stands in pack status, no matter how he thinks it should change. He's just a giant baby that has his stubborn 'teenager' moments from time to time.
A plus, however, was that he was super easily potty trained. He only had two accidents inside the house, and they were my fault because I didn't interpret what he meant when he was trying to tell me he had to go until it was too late.

rampartte- I think cats are special, as well. During high school/ when I was in college my dad and stepmom's household had a cat. My dad wasn't exactly a cat person and was generally sort of grouchy and the meanest one towards the cat, but every once in a while when nobody else was around I would catch him talking to the cat in the 'pet voice' and actually being nice. Through mid-college when all the verbal abuse etc began to really pile up, when I woudl go back for Christmas I would more or less partner up with the cat, seeing as how he was the only 'family member' who hadn't traumatized me -_-;
Amaitae- That is quite observant of you. I don't think I have put 2 and 2 together as directly as you have before... but in retrospect you are absolutely right. If an animal is nervous (or if a bird swears quite a bit) chances are you are dealing with a violent or abusive household :( Animals innocently abosorb and reflect quite a bit. They really are like 'small children' in that way...
solaria92- Egads! Both of your dogs weigh more than I do! I'm only around 85 lbs... and I'm 28 and-a-half years old. I don't stigmatize any individual animal but I am more cautious of some than others. This can be seen in my attitude towards dogs: I had them growing up so I wasn't afriad of them. Then, in 4th grade, there was this girl I liked and I was helping her pass out flyers around my first neighbourhood... we were going around the block on our bicycles and she told me she wouldn't go to a certain house because she was scared of dogs. I was like "I'm not scared of dogs... I'll go.". I went to knock on the door... the enterance was through the garage. Before my bony hand even HIT the door, the door flew open and a dalmation larger than me (I think I was only 52 lbs at that time) jumped up on me and started biting my arm near my armpit. The couple was getting ready to leave so the dog had been right at the door and I was there with wrong timing... haplessly. They had to beat it down off of me and it had bit SEVERAL kids in the area already. They took me to an urgent care to make sure I was okay/didn't catch anything/etc. Ever since then I've been wary of dogs and I flinch whenever a dog barks, etc. I've learned to make exceptions for individual dogs I've "gotten to know", but gaining that trust takes a bit of time.

The_Crow: Both of them put together weigh more then I do. Yeah, I understand that some people have trust issues, and that's totally fine! I don't think anyone is any less of a person if they've had bad experiences and have actually learned from them. Haha.
I just tell people all of the time I don't have a self-preservation instinct. If something bad happens, I pretty much wipe the slate clean and put it out of my mind as soon as possible. But I'm not a happy go-lucky mindless idiot- obviously if you hurt me enough I'm going to start to equate you with 'bad things' and avoid you.
But generally, I live a laid-back forgive and forget lifestyle. I kind of have a tally system for when people screw me over. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, I'm done with you.

@Shadami- -Chuckles- Thanks but, I really don't _want_ to be this light (nor does my doctor think that it's exactly a good thing for me to be this light). I'm actually trying to gain weight. At the end of high school and through college I was about 100 lbs. However after my second back surgery and with much depression as of late, I've lost even more weight. It's not fun. Especially because I want to test for Orange Belt in Krav Maga soon... >_<;
solaria92- Well, a healthy attitude can account for quite a bit and get you a long way. You seem to have that, so good for you :)

I don't know if I'd call it healthy... :P I do have kind of a superhero complex. I like to save people. I take it pretty hard if I wasn't able to help when I could have, or more like I felt I didn't try hard enough. It took a while, but I'm slowly letting go of the idea that I'm responsible for everything and everyone.
Cripes, Krav Maga! D: Hope I never meet you in a dark alley. o__o And I'm sorry to hear about problems with your back.
I know all about depression, however. I hope it passes soon. <3
