You know sushi only refurs to the rice. Sushi can be made witout fish. Sushi can be made with almost anything, even fruit.

I've tried telling that to my family, but they keep insisting that sushi is Japanese for raw fish....even after I show them the California rolls that have only veggies. <_<

I am not sure whether sushi means rice, but I am sure sushi do not mean raw fish, that would be... sashimi.

I think the one that's specifically raw fish is sashimi.
Sushi refers not exactly to the rice, but to that specific way of eating it, I think. =3

I wonder how you would cook rice in vinegar...I have a hard enough time cooking rice the regular way. Without a steamer, I burn it.

Unless I'm terribly mistaken, you add the vinegar right at the end just before it dries up completely.
And the trick to keeping it from burning is to lower the fire when about 80% of the water has evaporated. I cook rice in a pot too. XD"

Sushi refures to vinagard rice, prepaired in a speical way.You add the vinagar as the rice cools flufing and fanning the rice as you do. Sushi masters in Japan will take atleast three years learning jut how to make the rice. Fish is the pairing that most Americans associate with Sushi. But it can be almost anything. Some people have been known to make candy sushi with coconut. Many of the fruit sushies can also be prepaird this way. You use a fruit rollup tipe product with the coconut instead of the nori. I have been known to make vigitatiean sushi for my aunt who will not eat fish.

Edit> Mayo is not required. It has just become a national obseition in Japan, which is why it shows up in so many reciepeis for sushi the Japanies were paring it with everything.

I like to put sushi with mayonnaise... and all kind of sauce...

erm, I make sushi rice by.
1. boil the rice.
2. add sugar in vinegar and heat it to melt the sugar.
3. rice is cooked, just pour the vinegar in and mix it.

*rolls* xuxux and lulu, just expect the event to end around the time the FAQ says. :3 There will be a few more hours more then what's written, but since no one wants to get caught last minute in crunch time, just play it safe.
