That it is hummy. My dad went through a lot while he was back and forth between the hospital and rehab. Then he ended up going into a nursing home for over a year because we had to fight the state to get them to pay to have the house modified for him.

I hate to admit it, but sometimes I don't feel like he's my dad anymore, but I do my best to deal with it. Sometimes I really miss the dad that I use to do things with whether it was working around the house or just going fishing. Yes, I'm a daddy's girl.

@ MetalGirl - I'm doing alright. I start my new job tonight.

@blue: Okay, that's cool. ^^ I'm just drawing and listening to music. My foot hurts and got a bug bite, and it got stained (or sprained or whatever it's called). D: Besides that I'm good. :)

i totally understand that.
my Godmother told me the reason my mother treats me like she does is due to the brain anyursem *i know i spelled that incorrectly but too lazy to look it up*.
funny i used to know it by heart.....
but is wasn't the fact, she is who she is.
but while she was so frail i even missed that part of her.
one night while i was sitting and talking to her so my dad could have a drink.
*he waited on her hand and foot*
she had a mini-stroke!
i totally freaked out and ran to the kitchen to grab my father and drag him to her bedside.
i was crying and panicing and he was cool as a cucumber.
talked to her and stroked her bad hand,
telling her he loved her and was there for her and she would be alright.
that man does not love much in life, not even his daughter.
but man does he love his wife, through sickness and health.....and NAGGING!
it was a touching moment.
i hope your dad comes through a little bit and you get to see him again.

I'm just listening to music and sitting around kind of bored. Trying to motivate myself to reply to some rps that I've been neglecting. I hope your foot gets better soon.

I was actually pretty calm the morning my dad had his stroke. I kept it together for the most part.

Thank you. I don't really feel that way so much anymore. It was mostly right after the stroke and up to the time he entered the nursing home.

@blue: Cool. What kind of music do you like? I might do some role-play on here after I finish my drawing (it's a double meme from deviantART though). And thanks. ^^

@ MetalGirl - I like different types. I prefer to listen to rock though.

@ hummy - That's understandable. It would be most peoples reaction to something like that.

My best guess as to why I was calm was because of helping my mom take care of her parents and because I've had first aid and CPR training. At least I knew what needed to be done unlike the EMTs apparently. My dad has started vomiting to so rolled him onto his side so he won't choke or aspirate. The stupid EMTs even though they asked if he'd threw up they put him on his back on the stretcher. So that added some complication.

@Rose, aw that is sad. I just lost my Bapa a few months ago. he had a couple of strokes...and afaik he didn't lose any functionality but you could see doing things overall was harder for him. He also developed azlheimers. However I hadn't seen him for his last 5 years as I am here in Canada. I -almost- think of that as a blessing as I was kindof close with him and seeing him slowly deteriorate would kill me...I remember bawling seeing him after he got his quad-bypass many years ago.

My sister told me he had said sometimes he would wake up in bed, and not know where he was untill he looked outside to see the willow tree he planted when they built that house. I'm 26 years old and the house was built a few years before that so for him to forget it is crazy to me.

geez, even i know not to lay him flat on his back.
yeah, she just started to act really funny and kept repeating half of her sentence that she had already said.
and was gripping my had so tightly i almost couldn't get out to go get my father.
it was scary because i had felt if i hadn't gone home to visit her for mother's day i would regret it,
forr reasaons i don't want to write or even think about.
and then she started looking like what i had feared.....
thank God she was okay.
i was kind of upset my father was drinking but i figured he must have needed it.
he had almost stopped drinking while he was taking care of her.
that was the silver lining result of my mother's brain surgeries.

It can be really hard. I lost my grandfather (mom's side) in 2007. We have lived with him and my grandmother all of my life. It was so hard watching him as he went down hill and got to the point we could no longer take care of him at home. He suffered from congestive heart failure and his kidneys were shutting down. Before he died his kidney's were at the point were they no longer told the bone marrow to make red blood cells. He also had dementia and had some wild hallucinations.

When my grandmother (dad's side) passed the other year. I was kind of glad I didn't see her much. She just wasn't herself and was suffering.

Yeah it was fun...because the doctors at our local hospital tried to tell my mom there wasn't any hope. So she made them send my dad to UVA (University of Virginia). They didn't hold much hope for him either because most people do not survive. He did and pulled through better then they thought.

I'm glad she was ok and hopefully is doing better. It's also good that your father is pulling through with taking care of her and changed his drinking habit so he can be there for her.

blueblackrose ~~ yes, she is doing much better, she still has a hard time writing cursive but she can print very well now.
she hardly has any problems eating with utensils but when she eats out she always chooses a sandwhich so she doesn't have to use them.
but.....she does eat out and for a long while she was embarrassed to go outside, period.
some of her 'friends' made fun of the way she looked.
my mother has always kept her appearence impeckable.
never, ever went anywhere without full face of make-up and dressed to the nines.
they were rude and happy she looked so bad!
needless to say, she is not friends with those people anymore.

i'm glad your father beat the odds.
i dislike when docotrs write off people so easily.
hard work, prayers and the persons make up mean a lot.
i hope he keeps improving and recovers fully.

okay, happier things.....puppies!
i wanna puppie.

I don't want any more pets aright now, unless it's fish or mice. We already have two dogs and four cats so that's enough I think.

@ hummy - Thank you. I'm sure that he will since he's almost there.

I have no pets right now, don't have spare cash to be able to throw it at a vet if one hurts itself or gets sick. :/ So I can't justify getting one.

Yeah, unexpected vet bills can be expensive. Our one lab had to go to the vet the other month and it cost over $100 for everything. Of course on top of him getting checked out and getting medicine for his ear infection he was due for his shots.

I'm not interested in a fish. And you'd still potentially have problems with them being sick or adding a new one to the tank and it had something and kills the rest off.
