The Dark Light-- what's it about?
As far as different types of combat goes, I'm a total newb. I do think that hand-to-hand fighting will always be more honorable, but I'd still prefer to know how to disable weapons quickly and efficiently. I have a fairly strong and lean body type-- five foot 6 and a cross country runner-- but I definitely also qualify as having a bust and a derierre. This is annoyingly limiting. I blame the latina side.
I think Judo might be out for me, at least. Me and flips? Not the best idea. No amount of wishing will make me a petite gymnast.
(I also related to Gaia's "thunder thighs" comment. What can I say?)

It's about a girl who gets leprosy and is sent to a leper hospital. It's really, really, really good.
Ah, not like gymnastics flips...flipping other people. ^^ It's surprisingly easy, but my wrists are super fragile so it makes it hard for me.
Most classes will teach you how to disable weapons, but classes that involve weapon training will focus primarily on how to use them, which, honestly, is mostly for the competitions. After all, who walks around carrying nun-chucks and such? >>
You might want to try Karate. I think that would work well with your body type. ^w^

I'm on the Barnes and Noble website already. :) Who's the author?
Ooh, thank you for the recommendation! I think I will try it; I have more friends who participate in Karate, and it seems like a good stepping stone into martial arts as a whole.
Mind you, flipping other people sounds great.
My family tends to have joint problems too, but it has only ever affected me on one ankle, and it's fine so long as I stretch well and don't overkill on the cross country.

I have hyperextension, which means my joints are more flexible than they should be. As long as I keep strong, it's not generally a problem in most parts of my body(because the muscles surrounding the joints keep them in place), but my ankles and wrists have always been very fragile (my ankles are particularly bad because I sprained them in basketball and they never healed right, so they roll easily and are always getting sprained and twisted).
Oh, jeeze, um....Mette Newthe, I believe.

Eeek! That sounds rough, especially since you do so many sports.
I'm adding The Dark Light to my book list. Thank you for recommending it! There are surprisingly few book bios online for it in English, actually, though it looks intriguing.
What are you currently reading? I've just begun reading Dreams From My Father, which I got as a present today. :)

Right now I'm reading Farenheit 451. I just started last night, but so far it's really good. :3
It's not too bad. I just have to make sure I watch out for it. My favourite sports, though, generally don't cause a problem for them. :P

I love Fahrenheit 451! The billboards and the whole concept of "firemen" particularly caught my eye, and as far as warning/predictive fiction I thought it was excellent.
It also secretly makes me wish to memorize books. In a paranoid and protective way.
I have a particularly old copy of it, as well, which is wonderful. There's a line in the text where someone mentions that old books smell somewhat like vanilla-- and the copy that I have really does. :D
I'm curious: which sports?

I love the smell of old books--it's great.
I've been reading a lot of predictive fiction lately. :3 I finished 1984 and Brave New World before this one.
My favourite sports are swimming and rock climbing. ^^ They're a lot of fun.

Rock climbing! I like rock climbing when it occurs in giant, padded rooms. Since hiking half-dome, though, I figured that I should be wary of real-life mountains unless they include long areas of reasonably angled walking areas. I'm too wimpy for rock climbing. :P
Those novels are both on my booky-hit-list-- especially Brave New World.
I have to say good-bye. It's nearly six a.m., here, which means that the family will wake up soon.
:) Thank you for chatting with me! I know that I babble... but you are patient, awesome, and in possession of much useful knowledge.

Fufufu... my boyfriend asked me a month ago if it was okay to get me books for Christmas. I said of course. He got me 4 books, a 5 book box-set<3 and he said one book is still on the way(online shopping <w<) :D also someone(they were all under the tree and I don't know who bought what) got me a calendar-sudoku book, a new sudoku for every day of the year >w< I can't wait to start!
Now I'm wondering which book to start reading first..
Oh and have a happy whichever holiday you're celebrating :3

Haven't yet figured out how to solve that one, because I burn through the books like dime candies. But nooooo dimes.

We don't celebrate Christmas, so I already got my holiday gifts, but I definitely got lots of awesome stuff. ^^
A bunch of pins, three great CDs and a camcorder from my parents and some cute socks, gloves, money ($85) and a giftcard from my aunts and uncles.
I'm going to be with the other side of my family today, but everyone on that side is having financial issues, so no prezzies there. But that's fine. I got lots of cool stuff. :D

I got Son of a Stitch 'N Bitch, so I'll be making a lot of cool new knitting projects this winter.
I love this book series so much!
But that was the only book I got this Christmas. Usually I at least get a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble, but I suppose I'll just have to spend my own money this year.

I love ya for making this thread haha,
I've ever counted the books I read in a year or the pages,
I would love to try this and challenge myself.
So I guess here is my post,
will be updated with more books as I read :insane:
Christmas 2008 to ...sometime in 2009
1] The Road/ Cormac McCarthy (287 pages)
2] The Other Boleyn Girl/ Philippa Gregory (735 pages)
3] Fifth Business (For School) NOT DONE.

Thanks!
I had a pretty good Christmas this year. I got a coffee maker, a couple fitness DVDs, a yoga mat, and an external hard drive. Nothing too exciting, but I got everything I wanted.

I haven't opened any gifts yet waiting for some family to show up.
Which is fine with me, since I am 25... so I am no child.
