Perhaps its the coy cunning smile and the fact that it just looks like an evil forest fox demon trying to lure unsuspecting prey into the dark before eating them. Also looks like this creature has some mystical powers judging by the floating yellow lights around and the black smokey stuff coming from the ground...

Hero but not the main hero in a video game. Your avatar would probably be the magic caster from a village the main hero stumbles upon and recruits to join in on hte quest to save civilization. The village is pretty much secluded and none of your kind have left it because they do not want to get themselves involved in other people's business but your avatar is the rebel and stood up for what is right. So err, your people banished you as you left but welcomed you back after they realized the good you have done for the world :)
