ljos: I'm going to Glasgow between the 20th-24th with my parents and there's a Doctor Who exhibition at the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. I've booked our tickets now, but we're just going to collect them there. It's more money then I would like to have paid, but hey, I'll be on holiday and you always spend too much money.
Panda: The BBC Torchwood website. I was checking it every night to look at the image galleries and I saw the videos. If I lived nearer Cardiff I would have gone and said "it's PC Andy".
Connie: I think the episode you might have seen was Fragments. It explains how Jack joins Torchwood as well as how Toshiko, Owen and Ianto were recruited. It's the penultimate episode of the second series so it's really just taking a break from the action and fleshing out the characters before the events of the finale.
Jack's apparent immortality explained by the good folk of wikipedia. I hope quoting works under a spoiler tag thing.X
Quote:
...in his [Jack's] final 2005 appearance, he sacrifices himself fighting the Daleks; Rose brings him back to life while suffused with the power of the time vortex. He is then left behind by the Doctor and Rose, who depart Satellite 5 in the TARDIS. The decision behind Jack's absence in the 2006 series of Doctor Who was so that the effects of the Doctor's regeneration on Rose could be explored.
The character returned in 2006 as the star of the spin-off series Torchwood, where he leads the Cardiff-based Torchwood Three, battling alien threats. A changed man, Jack became immortal after his resurrection and spent years on Earth waiting to reunite with the Doctor.
I love Torchwood because it's ridiculous how something can go from being so over the top, to quite touching via a knob gag (Owen), witty one-liner (Ianto) and some philosphy (usually Jack, when he's not the one making the knob gags). The first two episodes were shown together in the UK and they're so Gwen-centric I was almost put off but personally I'm glad I stuck with it.
@Kat: ...I can't believe I forgot to look on the Torchwood website. /facepalm I haven't been on it since before the beginning of the second series... or was it during its broadcasting run? When they were running that sort of 'be an honorary Torchwood agent and use these clues to solve this!' thing. Thanks for the link. :)
@Connie: Maybe not the best episode to randomly jump in on, haha. It's good that you enjoyed it. Shame you probably won't be able to see it that often...
I'm still grinding my mental teeth over it.
I'm hoping against hope that an episode will be on when I go see my boyfriend this Thursday.
He gets such major brownie points. He tolerates me watching shows that make no sense to him, especially when he knows I don't get to see them at home. My fangirling over Dr. Who just has no basis in logic, but (for the mostly most part) he lets me watch. (The little itty bitty part is when he knows I've seen the episode before. He just doesn't get it!!!)
Panda: It was on during while the series was being shown and the new missions would last for a week before the next episode. The woman who presented 'Ghostwatch' or whatever the radio show was called was so annoying. My certificate should still be somewhere on the computer.
I didn't realise they'd brought it back. If only they'd kept the amazing flash website they had for series one. The website that brought us revelations like: Torchwood has its own microwave. =O
Iantoooooooooo! D:
Man, I cried like a baby. Which isn't really saying much as I always cry like a baby over TV shows/movies/anything at all. Still.. that was so incredibly painful.
I really liked that girl that helped them out, and PC Andy was adorable, as always. I loved finding out more about Ianto and Jack's families, especially Jack's. The end of the final episode.. goodness. It was really difficult to watch, wasn't it? :C
Oh and I adored Clem, he was so great! What is it with Doctor Who and making extra characters that manage, in one episode only (usually it just takes one or two scenes!) to make you fall for them completely.. and then they kill them! Is it just to make us cry more?
The aliens were quite scary.. well, not the aliens themselves as you barely saw them and I didn't find the tank scary, just the way they controlled the children. And how powerful they were. The idea of using children as drugs.. *shudders*
Anyway, I thought it was fantastic. I can't wait for the next special now, it's so far away! :C
Oh, and Kat, I'm very jealous about you going to that exhibition, it sounds great. My friend told me of one that was in Brighton, it sounds amazing.
Wow, my dad is using the new version of Internet Explorer (can't be bothered to turn my own computer on) and it looks awful. For some reason the spoiler tag titles are HUGE.
ljos:
MASSIVE TITLE OF SPOILERY DOOM!X
Ianto and Jack should have just shoved Rhys into the car and made him drive off. If I didn't already not eat baked beans (I just don't like them) I'd boycott them now.
I didn't cry during it weirdly enough, but I watched it the next day so I could watch it with subtitles (I can't understand people when they're mumbling either) and I cried then. Then I felt bad because the news came on and was all "terrible things have happened!". -_-
I thought Rupesh and Lois were going to be the new Torchwood team members. They even blatantly compared Rupesh (pretty, double crossing but pretty Rupesh) to Owen. :/
As well, I thought Frobisher was going to be the one who turned good and 'saved the day' rather than Johnson. Bridget was scary. She could just overthrow the government with a glare.
Ahem.
+ If anyone watches You Have Been Watching with Charlie Brooker tonight's 'TV club' show is Torchwood. I imagine they're going to completely rip the piss out of it (and I will giggle like a schoolgirl). Here is what Charlie said about it last week:
Quote:
"So a playground full of children chanting 'We are coming'. Nothing funny there."
Last edited by KatMagenta; 07-14-2009 at 02:14 PM..
Ahaha, no buttsecks for you because of baked beans? xD
I can't understand mumbling either and I'm sure I missed some things.. maybe I will get the subtitles and watch it again with my friend Frikki - he doesn't want to watch it with his girlfriend because she hasn't seen any Torchwood and he's afraid of spoiling everything for her.
Yeah, I was sure of it too. I thought Rupesh was way too much of a pretty boy, so I didn't really like it at first.. I also just had this feeling that it was too.. obvious, in a way. You know? That something was bound to go wrong with him. Lois though.. *sigh*
Will there not be any more Torchwood then, though? I mean.. obviously, Gwen will need time off, but do you suppose Jack will be back? What will Earth do if attacked by aliens again?? D:
Johnson surprised me too, I was sure Frobisher was going to turn on the government when the Prime Minister told him of the plan with his daughters.. so his actions really surprised me. And yes. Yes she was.
I thought Lois looked really familiar, but I can't place her, and according to Wikipedia she hasn't been in anything I've seen. Maybe she just reminds me of someone? I was sure I'd seen her in Doctor Who.
Agh, this must be frustrating for people who haven't seen the series, us talking in spoilers. The next special is supposed to be in November and I can't wait. I wonder what they're going to do for Tennant's last episodes though. Appparently it's going to be epic and.. well, I'm not sure if this should be marked as a spoiler, but I'll put it under the tag just for those who'd rather not know anything about upcoming episodes..
next Christmas specials apparently include..X
apart from Donna, her grandfather and mother, John Simm, who played the Master, John Barrowman (Captain Jack), Jessica Hynes (from Human Nature and Family of Blood), Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith), Tommy Knight (Luke Smith from the Sarah Jane Adventures), Billie Piper (!) and Camille Coduri (Jackie Tyler)!
Apparently Jessica Hynes is playing another character, but a website called io9.com said this:
Quote:
We already mentioned that Jessica Hynes, who played the Doctor's girlfriend, Joan Redfern, when he became human, would be back in the final episodes of David Tennant's run. But now it's official, thanks to these set pics. But it's the present day, not pre-World War I England. And Hynes appears to be playing someone named Verity Newman (a play on Doctor Who's creators, who included Verity Lambert and Sydney Newman.) She's written a book called A Journal Of Impossible Things, apparently based on the journal the humanized Doctor left behind. (Note the pocket watch on the cover.) And she's doing a book signing, where the Doctor shows up to have words with her. The Doctor is stern but sad, then he turns and walks away.
You can click the name of the website above and see the pictures, plus gossip about other TV series.
I think it's pretty impossible to say what it all means though.. I mean, you always think you know what the rumours mean and then it turns out to be completely wrong, doesn't it?
Well, it's better for them than us not talking in spoilers. I know a lot of people have had the series spoiled for them through Twitter/Livejournal/Facebook by people putting major spoilers in titles and status updates. :/
Thankfully normal sized on Firefox spoiler tagX
Ah ha, with the benefit of hindsight it was just obvious from the moment Ianto said they should make the most of their time together that there wasn't going to be much of it left. :/
www.saveiantojones.com
^ They have a campaign to send coffee to BBC Wales in protest. Bless their misguided love.
It's great how quickly the Whoverse goes through prime ministers (I nearly typed goalkeepers there...). Gordon Brown wouldn't have lasted two seconds.
I wonder what happened to the SUV in the end? Johnny and his lads have probably been around to beat up whoever stole it with a baseball bat. I was laughing so much when they were throwing bricks at things... even if Tom "it's PC Andy" Price showed they were only rubber.
Before the end of Children of Earth I'd heard that John Barrowman wanted to do other things so I assumed they would find a way to wrap Torchwood up (maybe closing the rift or something, not blowing up the hub and killing everyone). Sending Jack into space might just be the way of explaining how he meets the Doctor again if he shows up in another special though, and I might be reading too much into it.
Thanks for the news on the specials too. ^^

Man, I hate that. What the hell? I mean, if you're not interested in a book/TV series/film/whatever, then why bother ruining it for others? Even I, who really don't like the Twilight series, would never spoil any of it for someone else intentionally. I always put a warning before major spoilers, and even minor ones too, most of the time. Why can't people just mind their own business every now and then? *rolls eyes*
Moar Torchwood spoilersX
Aww, bless. But honestly, since Torchwood seems to be finished, at least for the time being, even if they brought him miraculously back to life, what are they expecting him to do? Anyway.. I don't really get it. I mean, I loved Ianto and all, but he's dead. So what are they hoping will happen? He's already, in the show's timefram, been dead for months now, seeing how Gwen was well on her way at the end.
I suspect they'll get over it soon enough though. I'm just curious about the way they think. xP
Haha yeah, I know. But then again, with all the time travelling, it's not really surprising is it? I mean, big things aren't happening every month so of course there would be different prime ministers. I kind of liked the actor for this one, I thought he was pretty good. Even though the character was despicable.
Oh yeah, I completely forgot about the SUV.. It's weird innit, because usually those kinds of things happen for a reason in these shows. But there it was just stolen and not explained.. I kept wondering if he had some important Torchwood files or stuff in there that the thieves would be able to find, so I suspected it was someone from the government.
But yeah, I loved Johnny's "gang", they were awesome. : D
Blowing up the hub was their way of going out with a bang.. and a big one at that. That is a good theory.. well, we know he'll make an appearance in the Christmas episodes and I doubt after that he'll disappear from the shows completely. He's too popular a character and it's not exactly like they can kill him off. :Þ
The only problem with Mene's lovely spoiler tag business things is I have to have the thread open in another tab because I as soon as I press 'submit' the words fly out of my head forever and I have no idea what I've already said.
I find it hard to believe that unpredictable things could happen in Twilight though. =P
The spoiler in which KM stops even trying to make senseX
Was Janet still in the hub? And Myfanwy? Will people wanting Tourist Information in Cardiff find a massive crater instead? It is RTD's duty to answer to these questions.
I guess the 'Save Suzie/Owen/Toshiko' campaign never really took off either. It's just a shame because as well as it seeming like Torchwood on TV might not happen again, without any discernible Torchwood team left, it means that it's going to be hard to produce more radio plays/comics/books unless they're set in the past. :/
They'll have to make Torchwood: The Next Generation. Starring: the Williams-Cooper child and friends. As long as Gwen doesn't name her kid 'Jack Ianto Geraint Williams' like she does in one of the books. That's almost as bad as the names of the various Harry Potter kids.
Or a spin-off from the spin-off The Adventures of PC Andy. Join PC Andy as Welsh teenagers beat him up and his boss makes him do all of the paper work!
*is dragged off by the men in white coats*
I thought You Have Been Watching would be on 4oD, but it wasn't so I'm recording the repeat tonight. Grr.
Kat: Ahaha, I know what you mean. And well, there are a lot of WOAH NO WAY things in Twilight (mostly NO WAY HOW COULD SHE EVEN THINK OF THIS SICK SHIT) although pretty much all of it has already been spoiled all over the Internet. So if there are some new fans of the book who have only read the first or so, they should really stay well away from the Internet until they've finished the fourth.
All the same, I try to be as considerate as I can. While taking the piss out of it, of course.
Sense? What is this.. sense you talk about?X
Janet? Myfanwy? Uhm.. do I need you to refresh my memory?
Oh, that's true.. were there not any other Torchwood facilities anywhere? Or maybe there will be an entirely new team that takes over? They were a bit of a legend, after all. At any rate, I don't think there'll be any new Torchwood for a little while at least, but you never know. Maybe Martha Jones gets involved, or as you said, Gwen's kid, haha. That would be well into the future though. And oh goodness, that is a terrible name. I hated that in the Harry Potter books, it gave me goosebumps - the bad kind.
Ahaha, I can so see that. Awwww. xD
Welcome Lauryn! How are you? Seen the new Torchwood series yet?
Hallo Lauryn. The art in your sig is very pretty. ^^
ljos: One of my friends accused me of being a closet Twilight fan because I knew pretty much all of the major events in the book, but the most I've read at one time is funny paragraphs people have pointed out.
I'm running out of things to type for this bit.X
'Janet' was the Weevil they kept in the cells. For some reason I think she escapes at some point, but I can't think exactly when that would be. 'Myfanwy' was the pterodactyl pteranodon that flew around the hub until she mysteriously disappeared too.
Torchwood One is gone, but Ianto knew about that warehouse they used so there might be other bits of it floating around London. Jack makes references to Archie, who is the only employee of Torchwood Two in Glasgow. Cardiff is/was Torchwood Three. Torchwood Four is 'missing' but what exactly that means in the world of Torchwood is never explained. In one of the radio plays the team go to Torchwood India, but it was 'dismantled' at the end of the Empire.
Martha can have a child with her new husband too. With doctors for both parents it can be the new Owen. Somehow Jackie Tyler's child can come back as well. I should write a pilot and send it to RTD. I could be rich.
In one of the outtakes on the Torchwood DVD when Andy is finished asking Gwen if she thinks any job vacancies will come up for Torchwood in Adrift he just randomly says "Captain Andy". The Adventures of Captain Andy, where Andy basically turns into Jack ie. he wears a greatcoat and gels his hair.
I'm listening to Naoko read one of the audiobooks. I thought her American accent was bad until I heard her voice for Ianto... I would never even guess she was trying for Welsh if I hadn't known. XD
Charlie Brooker called Torchwood "the Welsh X-Men" which is my new favourite nickname for them. Welsh X-Men > CSI: Cardiff.
Aww Kat you should've come earlier! I've been dying of boredom at work. Only ten minutes left now, so a fast post before I start tidying up - why do the crazy kids only arrive just before closing time and mess up all the things you've been carefully arranging all afternoon? e____e
I know your pain.X
Oh, right! Well, didn't the pt...dinosaur die at some point? I can vaguely remember it, just not the circumstances..
Well, then there are hopes for Torchwood two or four, or even some stray members of Torchwood one that survived getting back together.. I guess?
Haha, great plan! I bet they'd eat it up! Have Jenny come back as well as the leading alien authority and you have a hit! xD
Awww Captain Andy. I can't really picture it, to be honest. xD
"The Welsh X-Men"! Awesome! :D
Alright, five minutes left. Cleaning up time, I think. *sighs*
I'll be away Monday to Friday next week, how will you cope? =P
♪ He used to be a simple PC, now he's a Captain, they call him Andy. Captain Andy's Amazing Adventures! ♪X
People thought that Myfanwy had been killed after fighting Lisa, but she was seen flying overhead later. I don't think she ever appeared after that though (apart from in the past). :/
I was thinking about Jenny, but I think I'm the only person who doesn't like her. She can be the Jack character I guess. I'll have to make a comic or something, even though I can't draw. XD
But I've already wrote the Captain Andy show theme tune...
Oh noes! Who will I talk to on boring evening shifts? I have a total of three next week! D:
...I can't top that title.X
Hah, maybe they just forgot about it? They probably made up some crazy explanation afterward, I won't believe no one's pointed it out to them.
Aw, you didn't? I dunno, I sort of liked her but you didn't really get to know her all that well. I think I would grow bored of her quickly as she was, but as she was so.. newly made, I think she would probably develop quite easily.
Write a comic script and have someone else draw! : D Then you can record the theme tune and uh.. do something with it. Yes.
Well, they're like.. five and younger and as I started cleaning the mess up, their mum came and took them away without even a glance at the mess they'd made. The library does not run a day-care service, even though we have toys and things. *Glares at parents who leave children on their own, hoping someone else will take care of them*
On the other hand, I did get some very lovely people in, most of the other parents made their kids clean up the mess and everyone else was very polite and pleasant so that sort of.. outweighed the loud kids.
Thanks for the welcome! I haven't had a chance to watch Torchwood yet. It looks really good, but I always stop myself from downloading it because I think it CAN'T be as good without the Doctor. :p
Haha! Well, it is good, just.. different good. More dark, more adult and a little more about the development of the characters than the alien monsters I guess. P:
Well it definitely sounds like something I'd like. :) Guess I have a new downloading project! <3
Plus.....I LOVE Captain Jack. [melts into a large pile of goo]
Hee, I don't think I have anything else to say that is spoilery any more. I'll probably fire up Photoshop and mess on later if I don't have anything else to do.
The children's bit in my library has a setee in it so it's always full of people who just want to sit on a soft seat rather than children who want to read books. :/
My mum keeps scolding me for downloading too much, saying it's gone way past our maximum monthly download and she keeps getting calls from the phone company and stuff when the fact is that I'm not downloading any more than I did last summer. Less, if anything. So if our connection hasn't changed, it can't possibly be my fault because we didn't have this problem last summer.
We also did not have the problem of the Internet just not working at all while downloading so that I'm forced to download only during the night time. *grumbles*
Aww, the library where I work has comfy seats all over the place. Then again, it's a fairly big place. But even the tiny one in my neighbourhood has a few comfy seats scattered around. People do, after all, come to the library to read, and they don't want to do it while standing. P:
You actually have a limit that you cannot download past? Where I live, we have DSL (which is through the phone line) but I've never heard of a company charging by how much one downloads. o.O;; If that were the case, I'd be in trouble!
If you don't mind me asking, where do you live? (Non-specifically of course.)
I really don't know how it works exactly. I think it differs with subscriptions where the roof is, and if you go beyond that, you have to pay extra or something. I dunno, it's never been a problem before so I have no idea why it is now all of a sudden.
I live in Iceland.
Iceland... well I guess that would explain why your Internet system is different than mine since I live in Illinois, USA. XD I guess I should consider myself really lucky then! The amount of time I spend on the Internet is horrendous, not to mention the time I spend downloading torrent files.
I'm just talking about this to my friends who explained to me this is apparently an Icelandic thing. And apparently, they lowered the roofs quite recently. *kicks greedy Icelandic phone company* I'll just have to hold back on downloading until I get back to London then. *sighs*
