Serena blushed and looked at the ground, a smile on her face, "thank you" she said quietly. A few seconds later, she raised her head and looked at him "how did you find out that you could control fire? why did you come here anyway?" she asked him. "Um..." Kisa said as she thought about it while she tapped her chin with her finger. By that time they had arrived at her door so since they were already there she might as well ask. "Do you want to come into my room?" she asked sweetly hoping that he wouldn't find it odd that she asked.

"I don't know..." Josh answered honestly as he gave a little laugh. "I remember setting the drapes on fire when I was five, but other than that, it has really always been a part of me I guess." He turned his head when he thought about how to answer the other question. "People didn't like me...they were afraid of what I can do," he told her as his hands turned to fist. "They were so quick to judge they didn't even bother to get to know me." He sighed and then loosened his grip before turning back to Serena. "But that's in the past, here I can be who I am without being judged." A smile grew across his face. "The same goes for you, you know. What ever people did to you in the past, that doesn't matter anymore."

Serena was floored b his words. She blinked and stared at him He's... he's right. That's why I came here, isn't it... to flee from my past, she thought to herself before smiling "I guess, even if I knew that, it never really occrred to me. I... I actually... feel like this big weight's been lifted off of me... after realizing that I've essentially started a new life here. Thank you" she told him, smiling a bright smile.

"You're welcome," Josh said with a charming smile as he put his hands in his pocket and took a couple of steps toward her. "But can I ask you something?" he asked her gently as he looked her straight in the eyes.

Serena blinked a few times "sure... what do you want to ask?" she asked. She was curious, he was looking at her almost intently, she had no idea what was going on, but she knew the mood had changd, she just didn't know why.

"I just wanted to know...why do you think so lowly of yourself?" he asked hoping that she would not mind him asking her such a personal question. "You seem like you have been hurt deeply by someone that was close to you." Josh was very perceptive of a person by the way they acted. He wanted to help her, if he could. Why would he not? She was beautiful and interesting girl that shouldn't be feeling like she was.

Serena looked down and to the side, sighing a little bit. He wrapped her arms around herself as the memories involantarily came. "I... Never in my life, before I came here... did I ever feel like I was wanted. Where I was... where I was before, Humans weren't supposed to use magical abilities. I inherited them from my mother, she's an elf. Since I'm half elf, I was rejected everyday, simply because I could control wind. My father was the worst of them. He... well let's just say I would rather have a serial killer as a father. There were days when I didn't think I would live to see the next day... I almost didn't come here. Everyday, I'm afraid that he's going to come here and take me back... and then kill me for running away" she told him, tears streaming down her face by the time it ended.

Josh, without thinking, took Serena into his arms as she began to cry. How horrible...her own father? What mad man would do that to his child? "It's okay," he told her as he rested his cheek on the top of her head. "If he does come here to find you, I'll protect you from him, he won't ever hurt you again, I promise." It was a strong thing to promise to a girl he had just met, but he was being honest, if he ever saw her father he would throw a fireball at his head. That man sounded like a monster and he drove his daughter to the point of hating her self. It was awful.

Serena just melted into Josh's embrace. "Thank you... I'll hold you to that, you know. If he shows up, you'll be the first to hear about it" she told him, smiling lightly, a few tears still streaming down her face. She never knew how good it felt to just tell people about her life. All this time she'd kept it bottled inside... she had no idea how much better she would be by just telling someone she trusted.

Josh laughed as he held her tighter, thankful that she did not push him away. "If he comes here, he'll get what's coming to him," he told her. "He better hope he can dodge my fire."

Serena lauged lightly at Josh's comment "probably won't. More than likely, he'll be drunk if and when he comes, andhe wasn't all that great at dodging when he was sober, either. Just... don't let me see it when you do. As much as he did to me, he's still my father. Besides, I've seen people burning... it makes me sick" she told him, laying her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

"Alright, I'll make sure you don't see it if I do," he told her and then decided to change the subject to something less dark. "So, you want to take a walk around the school, since you are knew you probably don't know most of the grounds," he guessed as he still held her in his arms, not really wanting to let go.

Serena smiled and nodded "I'd like that. How long have you been here?" she asked. She looked up at him and noticed jus how close he was how long have we been like this? For that matter, why are we still like this? What's happening.... and why does it feel good? she wondered.

((lol, yeah I don't know what to do when there is just the too of us...))
"A couple years," he told her in disbelief. It felt like he had arrived here yesterday, time sure did fly. "But not as long as many of the students here." He let go of her and took her hand in his. "Come on," he said with a smile as he tugged her softly to get her walking. "It's getting dark, we only have about thirty minutes to show you everything."

Serena smiled and found herself lacing her fngers through his what am I doing!? she demanded of herself as she followed him "two years is still a long time, though. What are we going to see first?" she asked.
