Oh! Popcorn sounds good. How is everybody? I have about 30 minutes of free time before I have to teach again.

I teach the violin and the viola. I just got back from the house of a little 4th/5th grader who is just beginning on the violin! She is so adorable. My next student plays the viola, and she's in middle school. She comes to my studio in about 30 minutes. ^_^

Oh cool! I don't think I could play those. I want to learn guitar. It's a little tough because I have tiny hands.

Hey Wings! That's awesome, that you're a violin and viola teacher. And it sounds like you enjoy the job! How many kids do you teach?

hmm, There are a lot of people with small hand who play the piano or cello, but they are completely able. I am sure it's simply a matter of getting your hands used to the positions and your fingers will naturally be able to stretch to the correct spots over time. When I first started the viola, I thought it was impossible inc comparison to the violin, but I got used to it over time.

@Iltu I have 7 students currently but I am supposed to have 9-10 starting in the fall. We'll see how that pans out. And I do love the job, it's like a blessing to be able to make some side money this way. Plus it's fun when you bond with the kids. :3

I'm not saying it's impossible, but it definitely adds a level of difficulty.

I know exactly what you mean. I have large hands which pose difficulty when it comes to note accuracy on the violin or viola. My students who have small pixie fingers have their own struggles too because their fingers are so thin or their hands in general are small. It makes it feel awkward at the beginning. When I started the viola, it was 2 inches larger than my violin and that felt really very awkward but over time it feels more and more natural. Now when I play on my violin it feels a bit small lol.

Guitar is way diff than the violin or viola when it comes to the stretching required though. I think it's hard because you have to play so many notes at once! >.> I actually have a guitar, but I almost killed it when I tried to tune it to my violin one day in MS (lololol).

Wings- It sounds like a blast. ^^ Teaching in a classroom setting would not be for me, but one-on-one, or in small groups would be great! I taught Spanish to a group of fourth graders once a week for six weeks. It was so much fun!

ooooh! I did that for French when I was in HS in the French honor society! I loved it, and the kiddies were so cute.

As far as teaching one-on-one I definitely prefer that to classroom teaching. In the classroom you have to worry about so many bureaucratic issues, and especially with music you have to take things into concern that has nothing to do with raising young artists. UGH, but the schools try, they try.

I didn't even think of those sorts of things! Yeah, that would make classroom teaching less enjoyable than one-on-one as well.
They do try. I think they basically do the best they can with what the government and children's parents tell them they can and can't do.

Not a whole lot right now, the thread has slowed down rather a lot. Everyone wandered off to get food! (Which is a very good reason to wander off, in my opinion.)
Read any good books lately? Or have you anything you'd like to talk about? :)

Mm.. I just came back from dinner myself. Yummy pizza!

uhm-- I just recently finished I Am Number Four..

Then I started Sisters Red but then Eldest came in at the biblio so I'll probably ditch Sisters Red to read that-- it's pretty thick. @.@ -- since it's only mine for the next three weeks.

Oooo, I love pizza! Jealous.

I feel like I have heard of I Am Number Four. I'm not sure where, but it sounds so familiar! I've never heard of Sister's Red, how is it?
And oh, I LOVE Eldest! The Inheritance cycle is great. I cannot wait for the last one to come out.

It's a movie now?

Sisters Red is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. It's by an author called Jackson Pearce-- she makes youtube videos and I think she's great-- so I've promised myself I'd buy all of her books in hardcover because she so deserves it. -nodsnods- I've only read a couple of chapters of the book, but it seems promising. ^^

Yeah! I loved Eragon! I have to stop reading books and watching movies so close in a period of time though. ><

Neat! I'll look her up, since you speak son highly of her. ^^

Oh, did you just watch the movie as well?
