Cross-country is about endurance over speed. My mom used to run in high school. She ran the three mile, and I had a friend back in high school who ran cross-country.

Yes, the US doesn't really ever do very well in the cross country skiing.

You still have to have speed. I could last a cross-country race if speed wasn't an issue.

Oh, I never claimed it was easy. I would never do that.

I was just commenting that cross-country has a different emphasis than sprinting. That's about short bursts of extreme speed. People who pour out all their energy at the beginning of a cross-country tend to fail to finish at all. You've got to pace yourself in ways that short distance runners don't have to think about.

I'm hungry today, but I got out of class early.

I have no endurance for running/sports/etc. I hate to run a mile immensely.

Actually, long distance running is a skill that humans are surprisingly adept at if they take the time to cultivate it.

good thing wings quit colorguard when we were running one or two miles before practice everyday in the heat.
