Yes. We've had times where we've had our :/ faces on when someone creates a lot of new threads and then replies to everyone else's. But they're not technically doing anything 'wrong', so what are we to do?

I find things that are SO subjective, when they should be cut and dry (like rules) frustrating and annoying. Well, I think that rules shouldn't be so subjective, at least.

We've done "cut and dry" before. Black and white. No shades of grey. That lead to a lot of bad feelings for people being infracted or even banned for things that were simple, honest mistakes rather than people being jerkwads on purpose.
There are a lot of people who prefer a black and white world - where something that's wrong is always wrong and something that's right is always right. But the world comes in more shades than strictly black and white.

Be more stern about the fact it's a discussion forum? I remember when asking a question was not really a basis for a thread in the GD, and things like surveys went right into word games. x.x /feels old
Well, the condescension in the previous post, and then that little bit getting thrown in made it feel like you were accusing me of something a little. .__. So I was on the defensive. My bad if you didn't mean it that way, but that's how it came off.
I'm not saying no shades of grey, but if something is wrong, it's always wrong, and less "subjective" matters to judge--30 days since last post? Then new thread takes supreme. That make sense?
It doesn't mean an infraction is warranted every time, but it means that all people who break the same rule, new or old, if it's their first time fucking up, get a warning, if they keep doing it--ah, well. You know what forget it. I always feel like when I open my mouth about this stuff, no one wants to hear what I think.
e__e And I'm in too good a mood to get upset about this tonight.
So, nevvermind.

I, too, feel confused about the simple "One question" threads in the discussion forum. I find most of the time, the people who may those threads don't even answer their own question. They just ask a question, which doesn't warrant to a lot of discussion. Sure, users could force the question into a discussion, but it should be up to the topic-creator to do that.

Lists of questions
Posts consisting solely of a list of questions are something else which we really don't want to see. Again because they don't encourage conversation.
|
Which is from the GD rules. And users do this, but by creating multiple threads with simply a different question each time. I feel that is part of the rules I quoted, even if it's not one single topic but several.
I don't mean to sound like a pain in the butt. But that's what the rules come off to me as, and I'd like clarification

Thanks! The Captains Pants are jawesome. xD And I don't wear enough pants on my avatar.
To mon and pweep - I don't really feel right about continuing this discussion in this thread. It's obviously making mon feel uncomfortable and I think possibly other users as well, who are too nice to say it because they don't want to go, "hey, AA, can rules be discussed in another thread, yo?"
If either of you would like to start a discussion about it, Site Feedback would be fine. But maybe it's the constant storms the last few days making me sleepy, but I really feel as if, "Insomniac asked us to be nicer to newbies" covered what you're asking about. :/

I don't even know what's going on between CK and Monstahh's conversation anymore, but oh well. If a mod or AA doesn't get to a report, then big whoop. I've only made a small number of reports in my lifetime on Mene and I'm sure that some of them didn't warrant any action. A lot of the times I feel threads need to be merged is in the Fresh Meat section since some nubs don't read the rules and FAQ and make all sorts of threads in that one section. (I know one of my reports for merging a thread was answered because I lost gold from it. xP) I'm pretty sure that the Mods are deployed everywhere and always doing their best to make sure that things are in line (like how Howdy and Hammy are in charge of the RP section).
If a mod or AA doesn't respond to a report, then they most likely didn't feel that anything needed to be done (as some have already said). Monstahh, if you see threads with similar topics, just subscribe to one and stick to that one, don't act like a vigilante moderator and get upset when threads you reported for merging don't get merged. Don't get offended by that either. It's just that you seem just like that...a vigilante mod who might need to take it easy on the reports. ^^;
tl;dr Mene is just fine imo.
Congratulations Kiako and Siri! I didn't get to vote this time around, but I had a good feeling about your avatars. :3
Also, thanks for the nom. I was really just messin around with this one. xD

Actually, before I wander off to go curl up in bed and watch something....
I'd like to say that people reporting things really is appreciated. We don't want to stop anyone who reports from reporting things. I wish I could give you a more solid answer of, "Yeah, that what you're reporting doesn't need to be." or "No, you're doing fine." But I can't. Some people report things that really don't need to be while also reporting things that we appreciate being reported because it saves us some time.
If you think it needs to be reported because it's right there in the rules, then do it. If it's a grey area, think about if you would like to be a newbie reported for doing the same thing and if it'd scare you into never coming back and telling all your friends that Menewsha is full of mean staff. If you're not sure, you can always ask a Mod privately, I suppose.
Wish I could be clearer, but quite drowsy at the moment.

It's fine CK. I actually didn't expect you to respond so quickly. You must be a fast typer. :P
I'm not against reporting either, but I'm one of the more reluctant types of reporters. I know a couple times I made reports where I would say something like 'this doesn't need a ban or infraction but...' etcetc. Sometimes I don't know what is report worthy and I just don't want to waste anyone's time. The report button IS there for a reason, but I see a lot of situations where I think something like 'Oh that doesn't look right ' or 'Gah I don't like this', but that doesn't mean I should report it. A lot of times, problems resolve themselves over time without anyone's intervention.
On Monstahh's account, I understand it can be a little annoying to see similar topics on the same page, but maybe (a) Someone had no idea there was a similar thread {Not everyone scans the whole page. I know I don't all the time.} (b) Maybe someone doesn't want to discuss with certain other users (c) any other possibility.

I just wanted some clarification. I think Menewsha is just fine, also, but every site has flaws and grey areas so I thought I'd ask! Sorry if I came off to be rude, I didn't mean to
I tend to report a lot of things xD; but I've tried to be more careful, and think about it a little more thoroughly.

I'm used to browsing through various forums for reports to do. It's what I did on Gaia  It was a little hard for me to adjust to at first. I went from "I'll move this thread now!" to "Oh...right, I can't do that here. D: "
For the most part, it's a lot of misplaced topics or repeats from stickies (at least I think that's what the majority of my reports are). Like in the music forum there's the "What's your favorite _____ ?" sticky. Sometimes users post another topic, with that subject. So I just report it and often they get merged/locked.
There was only one serious troll post I reported, and that was handled quite swiftly, thankfully.
