I was going to do Birth of Venus but I thought someone else would choose it for sure so I'm doing "Judith, the Maiden of Peace" by Botticelli.

By the way, if anyone was wondering, here are a few of my favorite Renaissance pieces:

Christ Amongst the Doctors by Durer
Diana and Castillo by Titian
The Entombment by Caravaggio
Venus of Urbino by Titian
The Wedding at Cana by Veronese
The Flagellation of Christ by Caravaggio
The Holy Family by Murillo
The Coronation of the Virgin by Tintoretto
The Toilet of Venus by Meulen

Caravaggio is good but I find his pieces a little dark for my tastes.

However Titian is one of my favorites. Venus of Urbino is one of his more famous pieces.

And the rest of those are lovely as well.

Renaissance art is my favorite time frame. There is just something so serenely beautiful about the artwork of the time.

I just thought that I would share this and see if any of you had the same reaction I did.
I was using Google to search for paintings by Da Vinci and in the image results these two images were side by side and I almost busted out laughing because of it.

Caravaggio is a bit darker, but the details are so remarkable and they're so lifelike that I find myself entranced by them.

@Judges, remember how you all wanted a background on my Under the Sea challenge entry? This was my original version:



I took away the background and removed some of the stuff to make it more simple and clean.

@BBR- I was hoping someone would do Ghiberti, any of those choices are approved however.

@Seiki- You do have an extremely valid point on the details of caravaggio.

At this point I'm really leaning towards something by Ghibirti or Raphael.

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

this round is making me more excited then I origonally thought.....prolly because of the openness I installed.
