Not real good. It was so late by the time I got to eat I had the low blood sugar headache. They didn't want me even drinking water while I was in the ER. At least all the lab work came back normal.

Were they giving you fluids for dehydration?
That's what they did to me when I was in the ICU and I wasn't allowed to drink water because they were giving me so many fluids due to major dehydration (it took them an hour to find a vein to even put the IV in) that they said if I drank anything my brain would swell too much.
Scary stuff

The nurse caught me drinking electolyte water and said I couldn't drink anything until they got the labs back. Not like I was drinking much anyway just enough to keep my mouth wet.

I can't believe you weren't even given ice chips though

I had a wet wash cloth that I'd kinda suck on to get my mouth from being dry. That way you're not actually drinking anything.

They did the stuff for an IV and then I never got an iv, but they did use it to take blood a few times. I think they took about 6 vials. The nurse who I know is good because he has done an IV before with me was having problems with veins running away. He tried 4 times in one arm & then called in another nurse. I have good veins, but they run & hide from needles. He barely left a mark from trying to find a vein. The lady nurse used my other arm and got a vein, but it is so bruised up now. That arm is hurting right now.

Last time I had to spend time in the hospital the night nurse wouldn't even let me do that. I was so dehydrated by the time they did the procedure. I told the morning nurse & she got mad at the night nurse and gave me some of the sponge pops encase I had to have another procedure done & she would let me have anything. Kept them hidden while I was there. The night nurse was horrible, but the morning nurse was a sweetheart & was good at her job.

No no it would only swell because they were pumping me full of fluid and didn't want any more in me they weren't regulating.
Everything shrinks when you're dehydrated. You're not gonna have brain swelling.
It was like 2 days before I could even just eat ice chips and only a plastic spoonful an hour. It was awful.

And yeah it was when I was 11 and got diagnosed. I was in severe DKA and almost died actually. They said if we had waited 2 more days to go to the doctor I wouldn't have made it.

I am so happy you bloodwork came back normal, damia.
how long did they keep you? i'm so sorry 2028 isn't so great.
this one nurse gets mad at me and yells at me that I don't drink enough
then she smacks my arm so much I get bruised from that AND she STILL
cannot find the vein. funny when the gentleman does my blood, BOOM
baby, first time and I do not feel anything nor even get a tiny bruise.
HMMM, maybe it is her and not me? >.>

Thanks Ruby.
I have a fluid build up and tomorrow they are finally gonna do the procedure to get rid of some of the fluid. I've gained over 30 pounds of fluid in the last 2 weeks or so, 9 pounds of it while I've had the stomach flu. I feel like a watermelon that is about to explode.

I think we were there over 4 hours.
They keep telling me to drink more, but I don't have anywhere left for the fluid to go since my body wants to hold onto it all.
Sounds like she is a bad nurse.

1 minute until chance.

Holy crap Damia! Do they know why? That's so scary!

Hum: Before that it had been maybe a week or 2? I didn't know I was diabetic at all so we just thought I had the flu. And we only went in because we thought I had a bladder infection or something because it would hurt to pee. Little did we know that was all the ketones I was expelling.
You know how you have to get your a1c checked every now and then? Your average bg? the charts in all the doctor's offices say 10-12 is get to the hospital now because you're in trouble. Right? When they checked mine, it was at 16. I was in ICU for 5 days.
