Yeah, usually those seinen manga that are aimed more towards fans of realistic/detailed drawings, or horror type stuff. XD I remember reading Franken Fran and it had some pretty grotesque things. Extremely interesting, though.
I hate juding things on their first episode, but the first episode of Kuroshitsuji put me off so much that I couldn't stand to watch the rest of it. I get it, Sebastian is great and wonderful and practically perfect in every way! Why should I care?
@Kouki: Ooh! Yeah, Franken Fran's pretty cool. I haven't read it in forever though, ever since onemanga.com closed down and I now read everything on mangareader.net.
I should go find it again and catch up on the chapters...
@Areiku: lol, I get what you mean. When I first started reading the series I had no idea what the point of the manga was aside from the characters looking pretty. Sometimes I still wonder...
But it's not too bad, if you're just in for the pretty stuff. The clothes and details are pretty good. Story-wise, not so much. It's like a mash-up of a bunch of random themes all thrown together into something resembling an on-going story.
Yeah it's one of those anime that introduces itself as being just pretty and fancy. The real plot doesn't really come out til much later in the series, and everything before that is more like introducing you to his lifestyle.
I think a lot of anime aren't too good with first episodes explaining any plot, really. Some take a whole half of the series before getting to it. >_<
I remember watching an anime called Zetsuen No Tempest, and the first episode felt really great, and moved quickly with showing the actual plot. Though after that in the later episodes seemed to slow down with excessive speech scenes.
I also remember watching Reborn, and the first arc of the plot doesn't even show any hint of starting until episode 20ish.
I think most series start of with letting the audience getting a 'feel' of the characters themselves first, before getting to the plot. Probably to build up a more solid base of readers before starting on the plot.
Since the post you quoted was from over four years ago, I'll take the liberty of answering you for her. It's the sword from the Jade Ronin CI, from '09, May CI if I remember correctly.
It is my all time favourite manga! I probably would have completely left anime and manga if I hadn't still been waiting for updates! Its so beautifully drawn and the characters are so badass and sassy and mmmm
Haha yeah, the details to all the drawings are quite pretty. xD The plot seems a bit shallow at times though, as though the mangaka ran out of ideas and was just throwing random stuff together. At least currently there seems to be something interesting going on so I'm waiting for the next chapter to come out~
The Phoenix!!!! Ahaha that never fails to make me laugh!
I've been reading along with this series, and I'm loving it so much. Now if only there were more chapters! Sebastian is my favorite character so far. Some of the crap the put him through is hilarious! I also like that indian prince- I forget his name, but he's funny. The Undertaker is pretty cool, even in light of recent events.
So who else is watching Book of Circus? I started it and wasn't sure where it fit in with the rest and it was really messing with my head. Apparently, you are supposed to watch it as though nothing after Agni's appearance in the first season happened. So all that stuff they made up and that terrible second season magically don't exist. It's both a relief and a pain in the butt.
Anyway, I'm a bit annoyed that
SPOILERX
Ciel has no circusable skills, that it's all due to Sebastian hitting him with rocks. You'd think that in his line of work, he'd try to build up his skills a bit instead of relying completely on Sebastian. C'mon Ciel, get with it man. Can't even toss a few knives.
I've been watching the third season, though I haven't seen the newest episode. I found Snake's voice absolutely hilarious. Like yeah, I know he talks trough his snakes but that his voice actually changes with every snake? I never thought about it and it came as a funny surprise for me.
I haven't read the manga, so I have no expectations or anything. I thought the different snake different voice bit was cute and quirky. I think you have to be a bit quirky if you work in a circus. XD
You haven't read the manga? Oh dear, I hope the end of season won't disappoint you. But you really should! All the details can be seen better from the pages. Ah, the dresses....
I'm sure it's a lot better, I just never bothered. One of these days I might. But I don't plan on buying it and apparently a bunch of anime and manga companies are getting together to do a giant sting on anime/manga piracy websites to shut them down cause they make them lose so much revenue. Meaning, there might not be a place to read it for free much longer and that's probably the only way I'd get into it....cause I'm cheap and broke.
Ciel is pretty useless, IMO. I mean, the most he does is strut around...without Sebastian he pretty much can't do anything. I think that's one of the reasons why I've never liked Ciel much. He's just such a brat.
I didn't know that Snake speaks in different voices for different snakes! That seems pretty cool.
Darn. I use EatManga these days for most of my manga needs...though I guess if piracy websites gets shut down, I'll try to look for more on China's piracy websites. I don't think the companies will ever be able to fully take them all down.
That's so true! I didn't like Lizzie at first because she was just so stereotypically 'girlie' and all...but it turns out she could totally kick ass! While Ciel...I've yet to see anything spectacular from him asides from strutting all over the place and condescendingly ordering people around or pretending to be innocently innocent and naive and stuff...
Since the book of circus has started showing I wanted to discuss Black Butler. I've only seen the first season of it and haven't had a chance to watch the second one. what are your thoughts on black butler?
I haven't watched the anime version, so my knowledge comes from the manga. I like the mangaka's drawing style, though the storyline is all random and feels quite incoherent.
