I'm attempting to catch up because I fell behind.
I went to the annual Music Educators Conference in my state this weekend. It is held every year and I've been almost every year since I was in 8th grade. They hold the all-state choruses, orchestras, and bands every year at this convention. I was lucky enough to get in my 8th, 9th, 11th, and 12th grade years. Then I went as a college student and began to see the professional educators side of things. And now I go as a teacher!
I absolutely love this conference! They have it during the best time of year! Everyone is back from winter break and wondering when summer break will be because we are all burnt out...so we go to this conference, get a ton of new ideas and references, and really feel refueled and ready for the semester!!!

This past week my have been the easiest work week. We had off of school Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I worked Tuesday and Wednesday. And then for the second half of the day on Thursday, we had activity teacher planning so we had a sub in the room and we sat around in the teacher's lounge and planned things together. And yesterday the county paid for me to go to other schools and observe their music teachers to get ideas for my class room. Over all - it was a really great day! I saw two teachers who were very different and were both very amazing! And I saw one teacher who stood up and lectured to both the classes I observed her for...which is something I will never do as I believe music should be hands on.
In addition, yesterday I went on donorschoose.org. It's a website that teachers use in order to get donations for their classrooms. A couple friends of mine have used it and have completed projects to buy 800-2000 dollars worth of items for their students.
So I started a project to buy 4 xylophones for my class so that I can have more students play at the same time...and not have to sit out while students are playing. It's in the process of getting approved...hopefully it gets approved and I can complete this project!

I really wonder if my kids understand how lucky they are to have a teacher who is willing to spend her entire weekend and budget on them. I just went to the store and spent my own money on 75 kazoos for my chorus kids because I want to do a song called "The Kazoo Koncerto." It's quite hilarious!!
In addition, I've spent most of today working on rewriting a Pirates of the Caribbean for my intermediate strings kids. I have a couple really advanced students in that group who are ready for hard music. And I have a couple students who can barely play the beginning exercises in the book (don't ask me why the previous teacher let them into intermediate this year because I don't know! IF they can't read, they aren't coming to intermediate from now on!). Anyway - Pirate of the Caribbean is too hard for my only cellist and too hard for my second violins. So here I am rewriting their parts so that my advanced students can play hard songs but have easier parts if they aren't ready for the hard stuff yet.
I've also been doing homework all week as well as working on lesson plans.

Today...was a day. I had a pre-k student puke in my room this morning. I've never had that happen before - so I was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Luckily the pre-k assistant was there and knew exactly how to handle the situation.
Then during the other Pre-K class I accidentally banged my head on the wall really, really, really hard. And during the first grade, I was doing a movement activity with the kids where they had to shrink to the floor and I banged my head a second time on the floor...really, really, really hard. So I have a massive headache :(
I currently hae 324.41 donated to my project! I feel very blessed :)

I hope so! We had a really big push that first 24 hours of so - and it's since died down a bit. The PE teacher at my school said that is what usually happens...but it still makes me, "D:" XD

I am up to $664.41 for my project!!! I should have started smaller - I realized that AFTER I posted it and you can't take it back once it's been posted. However, this gives me a ton of hope that I have achieved so much in just a couple of weeks! If I could get this filled in a month or so - these instruments would probably get here in time to use them at the winter concert!! Which would be fabulous!

The Wandering Poet: - it IS expensive, isn't it? And that's just for four instruments. But with the four instruments, I could probably get all my kids ALL on instruments while we play. Granted, some would still be sharing...but there wouldn't be any sitting out with these four instruments! So I'm going to really work hard for this!
hummy: - I LOVE it! Thank you! Sorry for the late reply :( I am going crazy right now. I'm getting my kids ready for the All-County Music Festival next Friday....my Kindergarten through 2nd graders ready for their Family Day Performance for their families next Thursday....getting the 6th grade middle school feeder chain concert field trip set up...pixeling like a madwoman....trying to get homework done...and trying to not get sick D:
I seem to have stalled a bit...after that last donation of 100...we have had nothing new D:
