I do not believe it has a negative influence on the youth today unless they already have the inclination in their head to begin with. Meaning that if a young boy is depressed and mad that "No one likes him", his parents seem to always make the problems worse. If he listens to music that talks about the same issues it might just add to his problems. However if he started off as a happy young adult no music in the world can change that.
So parents blaming music for children attitudes and the creation of violence with in the child's world is a cop out. Passing the blame onto something else so that they don't appear to be what starts it all. Problems start at home and school, not from the imagination of an artist that is thousands of miles away. People need to stop blaming everyone else for their own downfall as a parent.
I listened to H.I.M., he constantly talks about a Romeo and Juliet life style, does that mean that I am going to go and commit a double suicide? No, I am perfectly happy with my life style. However take the same music to a couple who feels like their parents are against their being together; and yes, you might have it influence them enough to kill themselves so that they could be together. But it wasn't the music that started the whole thing, it was what happened before hand.
Parents need to take more interest in their child's life and look past what they listen to or what they watch and try to find out what is really bothering them.
